Woody Mood indeed

My first review of an Olfactive Studio perfume, and one from one of my favourite perfumers, Bertrand Duchaufour. Released in 2017 based on main accords of citrus, ginger, incense and dry woods. Hope you enjoy, and thanks.

Excellent Composition

One of the best blends from Olfactive Studios, in my opinion.

Right away you're hit with a blast of spiced ginger mixing with woods. The sequoia note actually stands out too. It's different from all your other more common woodsy notes often found in the base of fragrances. You can pick up that saffron immediately but it's tame. The spices lend a supporting role than anything else. They don't bash you over the head, just lightly sprinkled in to accentuate the star players.

From the opening through the early part of the mid is where I notice most of the sweetness. In between all of this there is an oily accord, not petrol or anything resembling violet. It's as if you rubbed some kind of oil on you, interestingly. I'm assuming this is the styrax.

The woodiness early on feels/smells oiled, lightly sweetened, and as it develops becomes significantly drier, almost musty but in palatable way. At the base I don't detect any residual sweetness apart from some cocoa way in the background behind the woods. Again, incredibly well balanced and neutral. It quite literally smells like dry, aged wood. The accompanying photograph is spot on. You can smell the age of the surrounding area. If you've ever spent time inside older cabins, this might ring a few bells.

Olfactive Studio / Woody Mood

I am sitting in the forest and wondering what to write about this smell and suddenly I feel that apart from the smell of trees and dark vegetation floating in this damp forest, I can smell additional scents of figures moving among the trees that I have not noticed before. Well, my eyes do not deceive me .... she supports herself in wooden clogs singing Geppetto through the forest, holding some smoldering incense in her hand ... beautiful and sharp. Behind him there is a smaller figure, whistling and stumbling over his leather sandals every now and then, spilling something from the cup he is holding in his hand ...
Ah, that's Pinocchio, he goes the shit and pours cocoa, warm, home-made and slightly sweet. This scent of forest, various trees, Geppett's wooden clogs, fierce wooden Pinocchio, his leather sandals and the scent of sharp incense mixed with warm and slightly sweet cocoa - is a real feast of the senses ... a unique fragrance, the work of the genius of Duchaufour. Yes, the same one responsible, among others, for the 3 Comme des Garcons series (Avignon, Kyoto, Zagorsk ...) and for the L'Artisan Parfumeur series of fragrances - a sensational, among others, Timbuktu.
For me it is a very good work, although I did not smell all of them. In my opinion, very masculine, spicy, woody, herbal and envelopingly smoky and sweet at the same time. A fragrance for fall, winter and maybe spring. Long lasting and highly styled.
Wait .... and where are Geppetto and Pinocchio as I wrote?

Warm woody atmosphere

In the light-filled forest, wooden and green,
walk on warm paths.

is a scent, to me, like walking in a wooded clearing, in the warm sunlight.
At the beginning it smells like dry, warm wood, a little resinous,
of balsamic dusty soil and also of a wonderful green, slightly sharp freshness.
Then the scent becomes warm and aromatically deep.
This depth I like very much and I smell quite clearly the cocoa, which comes absolutely dry, dark and slightly tart.
This fragrance is like leaning in or letting yourself fall.
Everything in the Woody Mood radiates for me a comforting calm.
A quite wonderful woody spicy fragrance.

My Holy Grail?!

It wasn't long ago that I exchanged opinions about whether there was such a thing as the "Holy Grail" among fragrances. Someone you can smell and the heart vibrates excited because you know "That's him." The scent that captures me as I am. Who turns my innermost to the outside and wraps my soul in a scent. Is there? Is that possible at all, considering that you always have different moods and are constantly evolving? I was a little stubborn for myself, thinking, "Yes, I think I can." Because behind my moods and phases of life there is still this one glowing core inside of me, which I have always been and which I will certainly stay. And this core is not bedded on flowers and edged with fruit. He also does not lie in the sun, in the freshness of a sea breeze... This core has always been in a protective, warm, slightly reddish shimmering darkness. It is surrounded by the silhouettes of old gnarled trees, while owls call and stars sparkle. He is gentle and calm and yet fearless, fearless and relentless. He's a peaceful warrior.
And that's Woody Mood for me. He's me, I'm him, we melt in the soft twilight. My Holy Grail? JAAAAAAA!!! The only one? I can't know that... But first I don't have to look any further.

To the fragrance - I really can't describe it - others here can do that so much better than me. Unique. Warm. Dark luminous. Spicy sweet. Wood Wood Wood. Perfection. Finally arrived
