Armfuls of Purple Flowers Laid on a Warm Ambery Base
Top Notes: Sicilian Lemon, Cedrat
Heart Notes: Egyptian Jasmine, Orange Flower, Tuberose, Parma Violet, Iris
Base Notes: Heliotrope, Musk, Tonka Bean, Vetiver, Amber

This review is for the eau de parfum which is a rich, amber colour unlike the eau de toilet which is more yellow in colour.

Espirit de Oscar opens with the bright, fresh scent of a juicy lemon just picked from a lemon tree growing in the warm, temperate climate of Sicily and sliced open before your eyes. It is an appetisingly fresh and fruity note that is neither sharp and acrid, nor artificially sweetened by honey or sugar of any type. The top notes are refreshing, and they last a surprisingly long while.

After 5-10 minutes, the heart notes slowly begin to open. Now, the fragrance feels as though armfuls of purple flowers have been given me. I mainly detect iris, violet, and already an abundance of slightly doughy heliotrope. In the background, surprisingly, unusually demure are the white florals. This time, the stars are the purple flowers, the dry iris, the gently sweet violet, and the doughy heliotrope.

The heart notes themselves last for quite a long time, and then eventually, finally, roughly one hour into the fragrance, the warm base notes emerge. Heliotrope is still quite prominent in the base, though. Beneath the heliotrope I detect the warmth of amber with shy hints of tonka bean and musk. I do not detect the vetiver here, but that is fine. The warmth of the amber, tonka, and musk make the perfect chorus for the star player---the heliotrope. This fragrance is about purple flowers in general and heliotrope in particular. If you do not like heliotrope, then this fragrance will not likely appeal.

Espirt de Oscar is feminine and soft. Projection is about an arm's length. Sillage is soft but noticeable. Longevity is good. I think this is a fragrance that would work well either day or night provided you love heliotrope. The original Oscar will always be my favourite, but Espirit will shower you with sunny, fresh lemon, and then it will surround you with an abundance of purple flowers until finally, you are made warm and cozy by the ambery base. It is a lovely perfume, and it is very good value for the price point.

Fragrance: 7.5/10
Projection: 6.5/10
Sillage: 6.5/10
Longevity: 6.5/10

21 July 20 ETA: The more I wear this fragrance the more I love it. It is very aptly named. Oscar was elegant and loved women. He dressed women and scented them with all of the elegance, charm, and reverence he held for the fairer sex. Gorgeous fragrance!

The Blue Hour without Arrogance.
Head and Heart: Desirable Melancholy.

Much softer, more reserved, more human than L'Heure Bleue Eau de Toilette. Not too floral, citrusy, or sweet but harmonious and gentle.
It is getting late. Delicate young flowers will soon close. Oscar wears wistfulness on his cheeks and a tiny drop of vanilla on his buds.

The scent is quite quiet and close to the skin. It doesn’t want to take me completely like the Blue Hour, but sits nicely on my hand and accompanies me with a floating gait, without pushing a single fragrance note in my face, even though I can perceive many.
A fragrance for day and night, but fits better in the evening, as it is not so cheerful and happy.

Evening hours have always made me feel sad. My heart grows heavy at the sight of the setting sun, red sky. And even though I don’t like to see the sun during the day, I love this time of day. Happiness is not enough for people. The heart wants to live and hurt, to fully experience life, to remember and mourn.
How beautiful that there are perfumes that can also break our hearts a little. Here, dear Oscar has brought me a memory. I truly don’t know which one. Only that after 2 hours it feels completely foreign and cheerful again. The kind one has washed her hands, powdered her face, and looks much more lively, younger.
But she can stay too. Too much pain is not good in the long run. This fits better.

And from here I say, bye Guerlain! Hello, Mr. Oscar! The night can come.

Powdered Lemon Fairy in Tuberosus Panties.

Sometimes I do like such playful bottles. Most of my bottles are straightforward, and some are so linear that I snap my heels together and salute before applying the fragrance.

So one shouldn't be blinded by the outer shell and hope that a charming breeze in a tutu will waft out, sweet and with a lollipop in its mouth.

The opening is lemony. But not as zesty as a fresh organic lemon. More like a slightly aged lemon that has seen better days. Candied lemon? Yes, that really exists. They are large, with a skin that looks like it has pockmarks. Here is candied lemon, which has been sitting in the baking ingredients cupboard for ages and in a few months will take on the consistency of amber and already smells a bit resinous. All of this comes out very slowly.

I don't get any high flights here, and my patience is put to a tough test.

So first a walk with Akemi (my Akita girl). Nose to wrist. What’s happening now, is there anything more? A few flowers flit by. Tuberose makes itself known, but without any heaviness. Akemi looks at me and thinks: “Now Mama is pulling another feather out of the hat. I'll lend her my nose.” Unmoved, she reads the newspaper on trees.

Iris, finally! Powder puff at the ready. Passes on to green-tinted musk. Creamy amber? Can't make it out. It has made itself scarce or was powdered over by iris and has wandered back into the whale's belly.

Okay, nice scent, but as exciting as the love life of cobblestones.

A lighter, more powdery, soapy and less intrusive version version of the classic Oscar. It bears the spirit of femininity and grace.

Lemony, powdery. Soft elegance. Base is sadly mostly absent. Decent staying power for a citrusy floral on dry skin. Shines in warm weather.

Skillful citrus opening. Powdery orange blossom leads the way with the listed flowers, violets tinting lightly violet.
Delicately beautiful*

A very beautiful and timeless fragrance. At first, it leans towards Chanel No 5, but after a short while, it evolves into a sunny scent.
