Club de Nuit Intense - smoke = Emperor Maximus
Parfums Vintage as a perfume brand has perhaps already come across one or the other. Especially their fragrance "Pinapple Vintage", which seems to be the top seller of the brand, is very popular, because it is a clone of the well-known "King" Creed Aventus. If Parfums Vintage is up for something, it's cloning or twisting Creed Aventus in all kinds of forms, that's the specialty, so to speak. I myself have several testers of the brand across the range and have now been able to get an overview. By the way, this is my first comment on a fragrance from Parfums Vintage.
Personally, I also think it is great when brands sell samples on their website. Parfums Vintage is not accessible in any other way except through their website, maybe the Souk or eBay. So the samples make it much easier. I really like the fact that the brand also offers packages with various samples, e.g. a Spring Collection, Winter Collection or Aventus-inspired Collection (or something similar). The Emperor line of vintage fragrances is the one that is supposed to be most similar to Creed Aventus, according to the manufacturer. Well, I thought Pinapple Vintage was pretty good, so let's have a look at the Emperor series. What Parfums Vintage actually did very well with regard to the Aventus clones is a graphic representation of the composition of the individual fragrances, divided into the categories pineapple/apple, smoke/woods and vanilla/musk. So along a colour graphic you can see in which direction all clones are moving, whether they are fruitier, smokier or sweeter. I think that this is quite good as an orientation, because the individual scent pyramids are practically identical... You can find the color graphics e.g. on Facebook at Parfums Vintage and maybe also on the website if you search a bit.
So what can Emperor Maximus (EM) now is the question? Well, according to the color chart, Emperor Maximus is the fruitiest clone with the least or very little smoke compared to the rest of the Emperor series. So you can assume that Maximus represents the new batches of Aventus, so to speak. They have practically no smoke but are fruity, mainly citric. EM can really bring that across very well indeed. But the problem I have is that the fragrance doesn't have such a high quality in the top note. In fact it is very tangy-citric, but equally very synthetic. The top note reminds me totally of Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man in terms of synthetics and smell. It also has a very strong pungent bergamot and in the background a grilled pineapple. The pineapple is also relatively faintly perceptible in EM. But what is immediately noticeable is the very faint, almost missing smoke, which represents this special Aventus character (apparently in former times, today somehow not anymore). Smoke is just the nice kick that the Emperor Maximus is missing. But if you know these color graphics, you are not surprised and know what you are getting into.
After the top note escapes after a short time, the fragrance becomes softer, gentler than Club de Nuit in any case, because the latter remains "hard" and smoky. EM becomes slightly floral and indeed I perceive a touch of rose. In the further course it becomes even softer and creamier, vanilla and musk are added and alternate nicely. The scent is pleasant on the skin, does not disturb and pleases when sniffing. But the spark, that I would consider it a great scent, simply does not jump over with me. I would have thought that it simply smells more natural, but you don't get that with Emperor Maximus. The Sillage is still quite good in the beginning but decreases quickly and the scent is soon only skin-tight. It's a pity, considering that it costs 95 dollars and I was convinced of the brand so far. It is definitely suitable as an office fragrance, it is versatile but it lacks its potential somewhere. The shelf life is around 5 hours and it is also not the burner. At least it lasts much longer on my skin than new Aventus Batches...
Still, I wouldn't buy Emperor Maximus blind without first ordering the tester. If you don't know what to expect, you can be disappointed.
