Pure addiction Paul Emilien
Am so surprised this gem hasn't already been uncovered. Absolute addiction in a bottle , so different, so daring and as the name says, totally addictive, a real wrist sniffer. Nose behind the scent is Patrick Bodifee and it's very well blended, herby, aromatic, smoky and absolutely gorgeous.

Pure Overdose
At first, I thought that without knowing the scent myself, the somewhat harsh negative reviews of "Pure Addiction" were a bit too strict. However, during testing, I was able to convince myself that something seems to be off with the EdP.

"Pure Addiction" simply starts with way too much cardamom, which, in combination with bergamot and labdanum, comes across as uncomfortably sour, somewhat bitter, slightly piercing, and a bit sharp, making it slightly repulsive when paired with clove. I think that cedar, basil, and sage are also mixed in excess here, giving the creation a peculiar twist. Additionally, I detect a strong lavender note that makes one wonder where it could possibly be coming from.

After about three hours, Pure Addiction appears tamed, and with the woody notes, as well as amber and patchouli, it becomes much more moderate, but still rather half-baked, and I was more or less glad that the projection remained contained, even though the test took place, just to be safe, in the home office.

This raises the question for me of what might have gone wrong. On one hand, Pure Addiction feels like a cardamom overdose, and on the other hand, it seems as if a few ingredients are missing. After all, there are also some very high ratings, and there seem to be both delighted and strongly averse perfume lovers. My impression comes from an official sample that is neither spoiled nor shows any other negative signs. One could speculate that Pure Addiction indeed polarizes so extremely or if there are significant batch differences.

It doesn't really matter, as the brand apparently no longer exists - and I'm not surprised by that.

Cardamom Cookie Monster
Paul Emilien's "Pure Addiction" is a demanding spicy fragrance. A sparkling pool full of contrasts that repel rather than attract. It can best be described as a cardamom scent with citrus peaks, where even the usually soft-sweet spice comes across as piercing & unusually aggressive. Instead of Addiction, it results in a wrinkled nose for me. Perhaps it's the sharp sage, the heavy clove, or an earthy patchouli, but very little appeals to me here.

Does it want to be spicy? Floral? Citrusy? Fresh? Masculine? Cheeky? It tries a lot, but succeeds in very little. Usually, I can do little to nothing wrong with cardamom. Maybe I've also found a new enemy in rockrose. Who knows... However, it's more likely that the direction of this project was not quite clear or too much was wanted...

Bottle: brown hardly excites
Sillage: surprisingly flat & not attention-grabbing... at least with cautious dosing.
Longevity: also unexpectedly short-lived - 5 hours. Pure desire looks different.

Conclusion: not a stinker, but it doesn't even remotely show what cardamom is capable of. Wants a lot, does little right. A spice cacophony that repels rather than creates addiction.

Spices!
Yes, I love spices! In food as well as in perfume! The only exceptions: cumin and nutmeg, which I can only appreciate in very moderate doses. But they apparently don't play a role here anyway.

My first thought here was: lavender! But it's not listed... I thought I could smell it nonetheless. Instead, there's cardamom and clove. Always bring it on! Citrus, basil, other herbs, and all the rest? Sure! I find it difficult to identify individual notes; overall, I perceive a strongly spiced fragrance - and I like it very much!

What else should I say? Yes, this is a perfume to my taste, as I enjoy spice bombs. Seasonally preferred during the Christmas season and more for evenings/leisure.
Those who prefer something more subtle and understated should better test other fragrances....

He overdoes it with the cardamom-sage mix...
...and that's where the problem lies.

In fact, Paul Emilien has clearly overdone it with the spice additions, which, after a rather lively-fresh and quite pleasant opening few minutes, overwhelm and clutter "Pure Addiction" significantly.

Leading the charge are indeed sage and cardamom, which give the perfume a spiciness after 10 minutes that strongly reminds me of medicinal ointments for back pain on one hand, and health teas on the other.

No, the addition of labdanum as a dry, brittle resin component doesn't make it any better. Overall, it's a cumbersome and quirky scent, with the most prominent association for me being that mix of skin ointment and tea bag.

Starts off smelling totally herby + lavender. Then it becomes gourmand-heavy + sticky lemon balm rock rose + labdanum = unpleasant.

Fresh grasses, lots of lemon, and a hint of white flowers - that's the summer scent;) It strongly reminds me of Trefle Pur by Atelier Cologne.

Very citrusy start. Quick shift to a woody note that lingers until the end. Well.
