Simply the best
This is simply the best Halfeti. The one to rule them all. Cedar was too boozy, the OG is too generic. This one just has a certain 'je ne sais quoi', I don’t know what, that makes it wearable and cool.

Spray it on and immediately you’ll smell that familiar Halfeti syrup. Sweet, boozy. After half an hour this transitions into a subtle incense fest. Subtle, so not full on catholic mass. It’s contained beautifully by some flower and spicy notes.

Then the dry down where leather and patchouli come into play. Again, it’s subtle. It’s a Penhaligon’s after all so don’t expect to be blown your socks off. It’s just having a good time, picking up those notes late in the game.

And I like it for what it is. It’s not a powerhouse, it won’t push boundaries on levels of stank or projection. I’d love to have a FB of this if it just wasn’t so bloody expensive.

First Penhaligon's - instant hit
On my latest trip to Sacks I stopped by Penhaligon's stand and sampled some of their offerings. The first one I tried was The Omniscient Mister Thompson - it was pleasant nice iris based smell, inoffensive and great for the office. The second was Halfeti which I liked but I have too many oud & rose fragrances therefore I passed. The third was Sartorial which did not make a lasting impression, I should have probably sprayed it on skin to get a better impression but unfortunately I did not. Last was Halfeti Leather which was a love of first sniff.

When I smelled Halfeti Leather initially I got a blast of red fruit, oud and citruses, as it was on a strip it quickly went into drydown which was dominated by Cedar/Sandalwood and incense. I sprayed it on my skin and the fragrance actually exhibited deeper notes - initially besides the red fruit, oud and citruses I could detect cardamon and whiffs of cinnamon. As the scent developed and moved to drydown I could detect the leather woven through the cedarwood and incense.

This is my first Penhaligon's and will be the only one for a while as my collection is pretty big and I will probably add as I dispose of what I have. However, I am definitely going to order a discovery set as I am really impressed by what I tried out in Sacks.

My first Penhaligon was a disappointment
This is my first Penhaligon. Was expecting a lot but am not impressed. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice scent in a generic way, but nothing special. Really no leather in the opening and for about an hour or so. After the initial opening, it's sorta creamy, slightly floral, with the plum and almost a little boozy. After about an hour, the leather starts to appear, very mild at first then amps up a bit. Towards the end, the leather was almost gone and it was mostly cedar. Until near the end, it's unisex and then leans masculine.

Performance moderate all the way around. Got about 6 hours until it was gone from my skin. Modest sillage but a little better projection. Don't know if it's been reformulated or if the sample is tainted (sample from a decanter). All in all, not impressed.

Worse than Halfeti
Halfeti Leather is the third Penhaligon's perfume after the classic Halfeti and Cairo and for the third time I wonder why they are classified as unisex fragrances. I don't see any of them on the woman. Especially Halfeti Leather sounds very masculine.
Contrary to the author of the previous review, I do not think that this flanker is better than the classic Halfeti, on the contrary, Leather is less complex, bulkier and heavier. The skin itself that I feel here is not special and rather lacking in character. The leathery chord in this composition is very fruity. The main violin is played by plum and it is the plum leather that dominates, it is dry and slightly alcoholic. Incense and oud, if any, are firmly hidden beneath this plum-leather coat. I don't catch the rest of the notes.
The ingredients are of rather good quality, the parameters are also good, but Halfeti is more interesting, I also like Cairo more, although that is another story.

Spiced leather with warmth, weight, and restraint
Halfeti Leather doesn’t announce itself immediately. Instead, it builds slowly, layering spice, woods, and leather into something that feels deliberate and well controlled. The leather is present, but it’s not raw or aggressive. It’s smooth, slightly dark, and wrapped in warmth rather than smoke.

What works here is balance. The spice adds interest without turning sharp, and the leather stays refined rather than animalic. There’s a richness to the composition, but it never tips into heaviness or sweetness. It feels composed and confident, like it knows exactly what it’s trying to be.

This is best when worn with intention. Cooler weather, evenings, or situations where a more serious profile makes sense. In my collection, Halfeti Leather sits as a polished leather option rather than a bold statement piece. It doesn’t replace darker, louder leathers, but it’s far more wearable across real-life situations.

I don’t reach for this casually, but when I do, it feels appropriate and satisfying rather than indulgent.

The best from all the Halfetis, smells manly, modern and oriental. Leather is not strong and the plum is awesome. Full bottle will follow.

Oriental, sweet-spicy scent with notes of plum, leather, and warm spices. Elegant and dark, ideal for cooler weather. Good performance.

Similar to Chopard Black Incense Malaki. Halfeti Leather has a more citrusy and leathery opening and better longevity.

Looks a lot like the Plum japonais (Tom Ford) I had. Fruity/woody/smoke.
Good perfume.

Best of the line, however, this should’ve been called “halfeti plum”, because I smell 0 leather. Performance is also mediocre at best.
