The Uncompromising Sohan Penhaligon's 2017

Sohan is a very nice Laos Oud and Rose type of smell, in the same category with Santal Royal from Guerlain or Oud Ispahan from DIOR.

My impression about the presentation, sprayer and the box is very good .. nothing less than a Penhaligon´s luxurious product. It is lacking in uniqueness on a market saturated with Rose Ouds, almost every house makes one nowadays.

The official price is the biggest enemy of this perfume, in my opinion .. for 150€ or your equivalent in local currency one can consider this on a short list, if the smell is appealing, but for 235€ full price I think it is madly overpriced. You can get two Santal Royals 125ml from Guerlain with this money as of today Feb 2022.

The scent is nice and pleasant, the rose is not the sweet grandma powder like in The Portrait of a lady Frederic Malle so it can be worn very well by men and also women. The oud is pleasant and has no animalic notes into it, typical for Laotian Oud.

I would pick any day L´Autre Oud Lancome or Oud Ispahan instead of this, but this is not to say Sohan is bad .. it just has a ton of competition and it must work to get a sale, I would say. If you find a good deal somewhere or your favorite perfumery has a discount for Valentine´s or Black Friday and you can get it with 140-150€ then I would consider it.

Sohan, ambitious businessman. With talent and cunning has managed to build a noteworthy reputation.
Compromises? Not allowed: here is the shameless and fearless soul of this fragrance.
A rose full of spiene paired with a very resinous oud present themselves at once, with character, to let you know that you are not messing around here.
Saffron, with almost leathery hints, adds more and more oriental undertones with a strong impact.
A scent that looks at everyone from the other side, proud of itself, continuing on its path with no middle ground; just like the eagle depicted in the cap.

I initially purchased this because I am collecting Penhaligon's portraits and I heard this is being discontinued. I have not owned any oud fragrances prior to this and boy this is STRONG. I don't know how this compares to other fragrances with similar profile but this is one where people will definitely notice if you are wearing this.

I got this when it started to turn cold here and it grew on me. Still not wearing this to work but I enjoying wearing this at home in cooler weather. The dry down on this is quite pleasant, with the woody base and faint rose scent.

It is one of the better ones in terms of longevity in the Portrait collection. And what's not to love about the majestic eagle bottle. You can probably get a better value rose oud fragrance from other houses but I do enjoy having this in my collection

Reminds me of FM The moon in the opening, but quickly transitions to Marly Herod- the sour sweetness
Blend is quality, no abrupt transitioning between the notes.

However, if bought at MSRP, it's overpriced.

To me this o e smells like Tobacco mandarin and Oud Ispahan.

I olso understand the falcon head i guess the The coat of arms of Egypt,
is a golden eagle looking towards the left.
