Softly does it
Extremely soft and mellow.
Almost a no fragrance-fragrance.
It seems to have pretty much zero sillage, as you have to put your nose right where you sprayed to be able to detect it.
The perfect choice for someone who likes to wear extremely quiet and gentle scents, or who works in an environment where strong perfumes are a no-no.
Could also be suitable as a present for a sophisticated little girl, or again to wear to bed.
In my books, not bottle worthy.
I like my perfumes to have some oomph and character, and this one, sadly, is rather deflated.

The Beautiful Helena
I can easily imagine that this fragrance was very much liked by the ladies in the salons during Napoleon's time and was eagerly sniffed by the gentlemen on the ladies. But I’m not really into Napoleon.

Much more interesting, I find, is that the scent would certainly have pleased the beautiful Helena from Greek mythology, although she would probably have added oranges and mandarins instead of passion fruits and papaya.

Hélène has something mystical, mysterious, and suits a beautiful woman (girls, we are ALL beautiful, we know that!) like a beautiful dress.

The sweet, white flowers like lily, ylang-ylang, and later jasmine are kept in check by the violet and the rose. The papaya and the passion fruit are not perceivable, just a certain fruity spiciness, but only very little.

Hélène initially displays an enormous powderiness, really as if one is not spraying it on but rather dusting it on thickly like in the French salons of that time.

Thank goodness this impression fades quite quickly, and the powderiness takes on a delicacy that suits feminine skin.

Despite the iris in the base, the fragrance is quite sweet, so it’s not for lovers of greener or fresher scents. Rather, it develops a slightly oriental note that combines vanilla with musk and woods.

Hélène is undoubtedly a pure women’s fragrance. I wouldn’t wear it under 30 or as a man, it comes off as over-perfumed and - forgive me for saying so - campy. Hélène also doesn’t suit spring or summer, but is - like Laetitia - more of a scent for autumn and winter, which she certainly knows how to brighten up.

Hélène is a fragrance for established women, confident and self-assured, who like to stride through the world elegantly dressed and elegantly scented.

Hélène is not an everyday fragrance and also not a common fragrance. It is truly something special and once again shows that Rancé rightly enjoys a good reputation.

Juicy Powder Flower
Hélène was simply passed to me by the lovely Florblanca, many thanks for that!
Those who know me are aware that I am the embodiment of unfaithfulness; I wave my flag with the wind, change my opinion with the weather, and switch my fragrances more often than my towels. But a few clear preferences do emerge, just as there are some don’t-likes and no-go’s on the other side. Powdery scents are definitely me-likees. The powderier, the better; they can be old classics like Rive Gauche by YSL or extreme newcomers like Poudre by Jovoy.
With Hélène, I am a bit torn. I found Laetitia super beautiful, and the bit of patchouli (which isn’t part of my I-like’s) was just right. Here, I find there is a bit too little powder, but a lot of fruit and even more flowers.
The top note is a fruity affair; I hardly detect any flowers, but rather exotic, juicy aromas from the South Seas.
Only after about 20 minutes of development can one generously call it powdery, but I think floral-woody would be more fitting.
That’s not bad, nor is it sweet, but warm, very pleasant, and also very feminine!
Now I can finally smell the iris and violet quite subtly.
The sandalwood also comes through.
A lovely fragrance, not 100% mine, but for fans of radiant, unsweetened floral scents with a slight woody, powdery touch.

Hélène - a gift of love
When I first read about this fragrance, I immediately wondered: "Who was Hélène?"
After all, the house of Rancé named its classic scents after family members of Napoleon Bonaparte, of whom this company was a court supplier.
But who is this Hélène, captured in scent here?

Napoleon's last companion, Albine de Vassal, who loved him dearly, even accompanied him into exile on St. Helena and gifted him his ray of sunshine during that time:
Hélène Napoleone Bonaparte.
Well, how could it be any different?!
Thus, the origin of the name of this very feminine fragrance is clarified, and my curiosity can now focus on the scent creation itself.

For this fragrant beauty comes across as very feminine and graceful: fresh and delicate with a light step, surrounded by neroli and ylang-ylang, "Hélène" enters the fragrance scene, accompanied by a fine hint of cardamom and cinnamon into the richly scented embrace of a summer flower garden.
Here, the tenderness and warmth of fragile orange blossoms greet you, along with the full aromas of fragrant roses and the slightly animalistic strength of ripe jasmine: the senses are awakened and caressed by this bouquet of blossomed femininity in scent.
A touch of the special sweetness of tonka beans leads to iris and heliotrope, which here also provide pleasant powdery scent accents for me and weave a cozy blanket together with musk.
(It is well known that I struggle with some powdery scents; if they are too powdery, they irritate my airways.)
Thus, I can enjoy the beautiful "Hélène" without reservation, as the classic finale of sandalwood and the resinous-smoky benzoin note pleases me anyway.

Rancé's "Hélène" smiles charmingly and caresses the skin like a light summer dress in the warm wind.
Perhaps this graceful fragrance lady sounds a bit out of time at first; she is very feminine, and all the boyishness and loudness is absent: she is not an "eyecatcher."
Jeanne Sandra Rancé also took a very sensitive approach to the tradition of her family in modernizing the fragrances of the "Collection Impériale" here, as she did everywhere.
The original scents, some of which were created during Napoleon's time, were very heavy and floral; they have now transformed into wonderful Eau de Parfums with high wearing comfort, considering the original composition.

For Rancé offers with "Hélène" a beautiful scent companion full of elegance and French spirit; it spreads a special flair and makes every woman unique in her own way.
So for summer, I have found my perfect scent creation: not ordinary, but still very suitable for everyday wear.
"Hélène" is a true fragrance gift to us women: a feeling of well-being with oneself.

Powdery Floral Helene
The scent is wonderful, I like it from start to finish, in every one of its facets.
Violet is wonderfully discernible, warm and silky, just as I love it.
Jasmine and slightly fruity notes are recognizable, but quite mild and creamy, and only faintly so.
Musk, sandalwood, and vanilla create such a beautiful powdery note that this lovely, slightly sweet, fruity powdery perfume completely enchants me, a true cuddle scent.

Gentle, floral powder scent that gracefully spreads on the skin as if applied with a fine puff. Feminine, easy to wear, and charming.

The start of herbaceous Neroli + cardamom gives the scent a spicy-scratchy twist. The heart is honey-sweet-floral-fruity, turning creamy-sandal-musky = lovely.

To me, it’s not floral-powdery, but rather completely animalistic from the start. You have to like it...

Fruity-floral-powdery. A pleasant charmer for spring + summer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t last well on me.

Slightly soiled white floral bouquet, delicately spiced and quickly wrapped in silky powder fluff. Almondy, sweet, lovely, plain. OK.
