What one can discover at the sea.
Sometimes I do really crazy things. Élise is one of those things. Because this blue shower gel note called "marine note" is one of the few things I don't like.
I really like the Shalimars and Perles de Lalique from the "like list," but they are actually quite different from Élise. I had hoped that the marine notes wouldn't be strong or would only last a short time. Instead, I would have liked to smell rose and vanilla. But no such luck! Élise starts off beautifully, floral through neroli and citrusy with mandarin, and is initially lovely and easy to smell. But then the extreme "marine note" comes in and overshadows everything. On a positive note, this is the first perfume where I understand what is meant by marine. Namely, the scent of salty skin, sun drying everything in the surroundings, and sea with driftwood and algae. Together with eucalyptus and patchouli, it creates a strong scent that is very dominant. Unfortunately, I don't smell rose or vanilla at all. The patchouli is musty-powdery, and the eucalyptus is a woody-green fresh shrub, not an essential eucalyptus oil. Unfortunately, nothing changes after that. In my mind's eye, I find myself in summer in a citrus plantation with blossoms and fruits. But this quickly disappears, and suddenly I am at a beach where eucalyptus bushes and coniferous forest grow with old, slightly musty soil. It is brutally hot on the beach itself, my skin is salty, I smell sea, seaweed, sand, and a hint of neroli and mandarin from afar.
The scent lasts on the skin for 10 hours or more. It still clings to my sweater after 4 days, and even after washing and drying it twice, it is still perceptible within a radius of 1.5m.
The packaging is the prettiest I have seen so far. And that’s saying something, considering I have the super lovely Penhaligon's box with a music box ballerina, which I adore. The box is in a rose gold terracotta tone with golden edges and has a wavy texture, making it nice to touch. Inside, it is dark blue and also features the wavy texture along with an inscription. I really like these loving details.
In terms of price, I find the €82 for 50 ml almost cheap, but you really have to like this special mixture. Personally, I don't find it easy to smell Élise, and while exploring the special scents and excessive sniffing, I get headaches. Élise is certainly not everybody's darling, but it is a nice change from the often offered, "easy" to smell fragrances.
