Héroique is a fragrance that, as one might deduce from the name, is supposed to smell heroic and is intended for modern men who, according to the fragrance description, want to "leave their marks" (which to me sounds a bit like marking their territory… :D), thereby highlighting the shine of their success.
Rancé was founded in the 17th century by a family of glove makers. However, even in its origins, they dealt with fragrances. For in 17th century France, it was fashionable among the aristocracy to wear perfumed gloves! Well, the son of the glove maker, Jean Francois, then founded the first fragrance workshop to be able to produce "regular" scents in the future instead of just using them as an accessory in gloves.
Although the origins of this brand go quite far back and this fragrance here looks like an older scent due to the appearance of the bottle, Héroique has become a fragrance for the modern man of today, or at least is supposed to be according to the description!
The Fragrance:
Apple and bergamot are the first notes I can smell. Even though the apple initially has a zesty scent like a sour green apple, it quickly becomes slightly sweeter and transforms into a red, sweet apple. A hint of pineapple can be perceived, but this fruit is only noticeable after some of the other fruity notes fade away. For a while, the fragrance then smells of citrus and fruity notes.
A little later, the oak moss makes its presence felt, albeit lightly, and the fragrance becomes slightly sweeter, but due to the apple, it occasionally even reminds me of apple cider.
In the base, the fragrance remains fruity but gains even more sweet notes from the amber, which prevents it from becoming truly sweet. A bit later, or in the later base, the fruity notes are significantly weaker, the sweet notes remain low, but the fragrance then becomes intensely woody.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The projection is above average and is therefore "normally" detectable, not too strong or too weak.
I find the longevity good, as the fragrance lasts longer than eight to ten hours.
The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular, tall, and slim. On the front, there is a label with a rather complicated-looking graphic that resembles a coat of arms or something. A red cord hangs from the neck of the bottle, and the cap is transparent and rectangular. Overall, the bottle looks well-made.
So, does the fragrance now smell like the success of the modern man who marks his territory… argh, I mean, of course, who leaves his marks? :DD
Well, I don't know. Such things must be judged by each person themselves, as everyone has a different perception of scents. I wouldn't describe the fragrance as modern, as it initially comes across as rather classic due to the oak moss. However, it is indeed distinctive and smells high-quality, pleasant, and naturally masculine.
I like it, even though I shouldn't really enjoy apple notes in a fragrance (but the apple isn't strong later on anyway). It is usable for almost any occasion in any season, but it probably works best on warmer days.
Heroic is not how I would describe the fragrance, but it is quite interesting and thus worth a look or a sniff!
And now, let’s hear it: Who among you fragrance freaks perfumes their gloves? :D
