Resin queen
The Rancé fragrances with female first names often refer to monarchs and regents from a wide variety of eras. We do not know whether the Rancé family had Napoleon Bonaparte's mother or another lady of noble birth in mind as the namesake for Laetitia. The Spanish queen was probably not meant, the fragrance is too old for that.
Laetitia is definitely a fragrance for queens. I can imagine a resin queen on a patchouli throne. The fragrance is dark, mysterious and a little wicked. I love that. Labdanum adds a wonderful touch of smut. The vanilla is there, but is very restrained. In the foreground, patchouli and myrrh in particular perform a sensual dance, fueled by a wonderfully spicy-edged nutmeg. A great combination of notes, and so perfectly coordinated that the top, heart and base notes flow seamlessly into one another. The fragrance remains harmonious and beautiful throughout. As is often the case with these older compositions, which simply have a wonderful charm for me, absolutely nothing is scratchy or distracting.
The lady is not shy about it. Of course, we are a long way from beast fashion, which is not what these old French perfumes were and were never intended to be. But Laetitia does have a bit of pepper up her butt. Two small sprays already envelop you in a soft, sensual cloud of fragrance. Close to the skin, but definitely perceptible. For the wearer and for others.
Of course, despite the citrusy notes in the opening, this is not a summer fragrance, but when I recently received mail from the lovely FrauKirsche with this beautiful scent, I was immediately aware that it's summer and it's 28-30 degrees. I absolutely had to wear Laetitia, which incidentally also enchants my partner.
I still have to find out whether I am racy and sensual enough for this resin queen. She has piqued my interest, this regent with a dirty factor. To me, she smells like the big, much more grown-up sister of Fragonard's vanilla and floral Miranda. And Macadam by Il Profumo, also a fragrance with a focus on resins and patchouli, but with more vanilla and flowers, could be Laetitita's cousin.
Rancé is simply a great house. If you love old-school perfumes, you should definitely try this one. Wonderful! And: drum roll: not discontinued. Thanks to FrauKirsche for the testing opportunity
