A beautiful Cavalli
Not as black as the name indicates. A beautiful woody floral, one of the best mainstream-releases of 2013. It smells of flowers (synthetic orchid), very controlled and without sweetness. Added to this is a warm vanilla-note with a velvety feel and, of course, some wood ("ebony") to round the harmony. In its amphora-curved flacon, "Nero Assoluto" is as pleasant to look at as it is to use. Could be worn to parties/banquets/theatre etc. together with animal prints like crocodile and leopard - in genuine Cavalli style.

More velvety than black
Nero Assoluto (meaning absolute black in English), has a name that doesn't quite fit to this fragrance. I would have expected a way darker perfume just based on the name alone. It is very lovely, dark just right after the initial spray, and then it settles into a smooth, very pleasant fragrance. Almost too shy and too close to the skin, but outstandingly beautiful and velvety. Longevity is not that grand, but I don't mind, because this is really a wonderful fragrance with way more sweetness than darkness, very harmonious and so worth every penny I paid for it. I like it a lot.

Black...but lighter than I thought
Here we are again: everytime I see on the drugstore shelf a black bottle I think immediately of a strong and intense perfume. But often it isn't so and this is one of those cases.
Nero assoluto is a pleasant and well balanced perfume, although its acchord is very simple , but I was expecting a stronger base note and a better longevity. Anyway, I like it and I think it's a modern fragrance easy to wear and perfect for the happy hours or the summer nights .

A somewhat biased review
I absolutely cannot be objective about this fragrance. Not that that's possible even with the best of intentions but I'm not even going to try. This was my first grown-up perfume, purchased about a decade ago with my own money, and that same bottle has accompanied me ever since.

In a way, it's very of its time as a scent. It has a heart of vanilla, but lacks any hint of sweetness that's so prevalent in modern vanilla fragrances. Instead you get a dark floral note at the top, again so unlike the white fluffy florals that are currently popular. I love that combination, but it's very much the skinny jeans of fragrance. It's a millenial fragrance for millenials. Which works for me.

Longevity is pretty good but not exceptional. At the end of a work day (and yes, I wear this to work because I don't go on enough nights out to make it worth it), all that's left is a trace of wood and amber close to the skin.

In the Night ...
... people do not like to be alone.

I can only fully agree with this oldie.

Unfortunately, I am involuntarily a night owl, as the Sandman is obviously busy elsewhere.

I envy the deep slumber of my husband, and often can't help but nudge him and ask if he can't sleep either.
This interest meets with little favor, and I only receive a grunt in response.

I do not like being awake alone.

But now I have Nero as a good night companion.
He is black, like the namesake cat of my friend, quiet - yet still wide awake.
Even though he almost disappears in the dark, his yellow eyes shine - and follow me attentively.
He lies still, yet full of energy - always ready for a hissing leap.
Somewhat eerie - and calming at the same time.

His presence does me good - for the night is our world.
Sometimes we are ready to fight - sometimes relaxed.

And this ambivalence is well captured in the scent.
The orchid has something delicate, fragile - yet the vanilla is full and deep.
Presented on the pitch-black ebony.

I look into Nero's eyes - and they sparkle like stars.

Not as black as the name promises, but a sexy, mysterious scent nonetheless. Soft florals, warm vanilla w ith an edge of wood.

Vanilla liquor in oak barrel. Attractive, yet not cloying odor

This is how many young women smell on public transport here. Sweet, somewhat floral, and very creamy-vanilla. It leaves me cold.

I really like this full floral note (and I think it suits women especially well), even if it's not anything original.

I bought this out of frustration when my soul seemed darker than the bottle. I've never been so rewarded for a frustration purchase! Awesome!

For me, THIS is the scent for sultry Southern women with lots of gold jewelry - I'm the complete opposite and still love it. The association remains :)

It smells expensive. Everyone turns around and asks, "Who smells like Tom Ford - Noir Pour Femme?" "Oh, that's me - replies Cavalli."

Best blind buy ever! Smells expensive, seductive. Orchid isn't in the foreground, but vanilla with ebony is a very successful mix.

Lush, dark orchids for the confident woman. Heavily vanilla and woody. Too strong for me. Probably nicer on others.

A black and dark beauty... I love wood, vanilla - it fits! A heavy evening scent for top women. Nero Assoluto? Yes, Assoluto!
