Spontaneous Pencil Associations
Unfortunately, this scent is a bit of a fail for me and that's really a shame, because I was genuinely looking forward to it.
I was on the hunt for a new autumn fragrance, something cozy and warm.
A recommendation came from soki London, through which I also discovered Trésor Midnight Rose and hit the jackpot. The reviews for this one were also exceptionally good. When I read on fragrantica that this perfume was basically a warm hug in a bottle, I was sold, I had to have it. The fantastic price sealed the deal, I ordered it blind and today I held my package in my hands with great anticipation.
I like the packaging, even though I miss the cute bow on the 30ml bottle. The sprayer is good too.
But to the scent: eagerly, I sprayed a bit on my wrist. I sniffed it repeatedly and thought: It smells metallic... somehow like pencil on paper ?? it also has something slightly piercing, which unfortunately lingers quite a long time for me.
So fresh and fruity in the opening, I unfortunately did not find it at all. I increasingly had the feeling that the scent seemed vaguely familiar to me, but I couldn't quite place what it was.
Now, after racking my brain for a few hours, it’s clear to me that the scent strongly reminds me of Emporio Armani Lei.
I received this as a gift when it was released, and while that was a long time ago, I still remember this scent very well and also that I never really warmed up to it.
Mademoiselle Couture strongly reminds me of Lei, and my research surprisingly (I’m not a fragrance expert ?) showed me that the two actually share some notes.
I don’t know if it’s the pink pepper or the pear, the lily of the valley or heliotrope, but something about this scent is so piercing and even somewhat overpowering for me that I just can't warm up to it. All of these are actually fragrance notes that I was convinced I would like, but I had the same unpleasant feeling with Gemma di Paradiso by Cavalli, so I’m starting to think that it might be the pear?? In perfume forums, both Gemma di Paradiso and Mademoiselle Couture are said to remind people of Carolina Herrera Good Girl... If Good Girl smells like this, then I can probably rule that one out for me too ?
But I digress! What I must mention positively is that Mademoiselle Couture becomes significantly nicer and warmer in the dry down. Here, I really perceive the musk note strongly.
Moreover, the scent lasts quite well and is indeed very affordable. However, I unfortunately do not perceive it at all, contrary to its name, as a fragrance for young women, but rather it smells to me more like a Madame.
It remains for me very long in this slightly metallic, leaden, yes also somewhat masculine opening and unfortunately does not convey the warmth and the "warm hug in a bottle" that tempted me to buy it in the dry down.
In fact, this review is also a kind of first impression... Maybe I just need to warm up to Mademoiselle first.
