Quite Funny
Roger & Gallet. A brand that was unknown to me before Parfumo, which has supported me on my journey to find the holy vintage fragrance grail, can also convince me with this beautiful creation!

Open should be a term familiar to (almost) anyone who knows R&G, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful wonderfully dry tobacco scents.

To get to my point:

Recently, I had the pleasure of discovering Open Black through a blind purchase, and I must be honest, Open Black on the left hand, L'homme on the right hand, as much as I try to find a difference between the two, I can't find it. They are so similar...!

There isn't much more to say about this spicy-herbaceous scent. I don't want to break it down into individual fragrance components; it's too perfectly balanced for that.

Finally, I can only say: Open Black has already been discontinued, this one has not. So, anyone who wants to know how Open Black smells or is looking for a replacement can confidently go for this one!

Regarding longevity: 3-4 hours
Sillage is good at first, but quickly tapers off.

Ylang-Ylang comes through a bit and slowly fades with vetiver and sandalwood in the base, and I think that's also the special thing about R&G L'Homme as well as Open Black.

Overall, a great scent, but Open Black is more than enough for me.

Citrus, Flower, Herb, Wood - what more could one want?
An extremely pleasant, stylish men's fragrance in the mid-price range.

A distinctly citrus opening, strongly accompanied by initially quite prominent musky tones.

The sweet-floral Ylang-Ylang of the heart phase comes into its own quite quickly, somewhat unusual at first. Once you know how it evolves, it is extremely successful in terms of fragrance evolutionary complexity.

Overall, a fragrance arrangement that focuses on a few ingredients, but knows how to use them all in full richness and strength.

The base then offers a rich, masculine herbiness in contrast to the slightly feminine-oriented heart phase - strongly pronounced woody tones are paired with various, somewhat herbal, thoroughly masculine spice nuances (perhaps verbena, anise, rosemary?).

What makes the overall arrangement pleasantly soft against the rich herb-spicy-woody notes is the amber in the base, which "embraces" everything quite gently. Truly an interesting fragrance.

Mainstream Niche Fragrance?
Roger & Gallet pour Homme shares the fate of many fragrances from manufacturers that are completely unknown here. I only became aware of it through my participation in this portal and think it definitely deserves wider distribution.

Spicy, leathery, woody, herbal - this combination always gets me. When a fragrance is also clean, yet distinctive and unobtrusive, like this one, it really stands out. It somewhat reminds me of "Loewe pour Homme".

Frankfurter has accurately identified the target audience: a solid businessman around 50, who wants to smell good conservatively without any experiments. Well, I fully meet the parameters of this target group (except maybe for "solid"), so it was clear that this fragrance could find a place with me.

You can get it on eBay from England for a really small price, which is another plus point.

Subtle, Elegant, Serious
For a quirky teenager, Roger & Gallet L'Homme is certainly unsuitable. The target audience is more of a mature manager, around 50 years and older, who wants to surround himself with a serious aura. A bit soapy yet not musty, rather "clean" and slightly fresh.

The softest, most beautiful mint note I’ve experienced so far. Woody, fatherly, calming. Definitely give it a try!

One of my first fragrances. A beautiful balance between old school and modern. Very French in style and composition. Very good and noble.

L' Homme and Open Black offer only subtle nuances in their scent development. A lovely herbal old-school fragrance!

For me, a very herbal lavender scent - the patchouli only comes through in the drydown, without becoming dominant. I like it!
