A Light Rose Cologne
Somehow I have managed to avoid Roger & Gallet my entire life. Not sure how or why, but all that changed, with a recent wearing of ROSE eau douce parfumée. This is a very light natural-smelling cologne featuring a pleasant, slightly sweet rose scent.

I'm not going to complain that the sillage is low and longevity poor, because no one ever claimed that this was supposed to be perfume. Instead, it's a friendly body spray-type scent best suited for a quick pick-me-up or when wants just a touch of rosiness. Smells just fine, for what it is. No complaints.

Shy Rose in a garden of Peonies
This perfume is just a little more than rose.

It was the first perfume my mother got for me during my high school years as a present.
I still have a few millilitres left to remind me of her thoughtful gift, even if she never was into perfumes (although she did really like my Ninfea decant).
Feelings apart, which are an important, added value attributed to our perfumes that makes us love them even more, Rose is a pretty scent that I think it's more of a peony scent rather than being just rose.

It opens as citrusy, reminds me of the oil that you can squeeze off the peels of citrus fruits, but not from a lemon, It's not sour. It's fresh and juicy.

Soon after, all I can smell is peony. A scent I find difficult to describe because I know so little of it, yet had perceived in some perfumes already without really knowing what it was. I first smelled a real peony in Leiden's botanical gardens in the Netherlands. As soon as I put my nose near the flower I went immediately like "Ah-a!", so that was what mom's gift smells like. After almost 8 years I had finally found out. It's not as deeply perfumed as a true peony flower, but it is similar.

In the background there's a sweet and shy, pink rose that feels bright and dewy.
But in the perfume's short-lived stay, I don't think she's at the centre of the picture frame.
There's a certain fruitiness that sticks around.

I don't know about amber as I'm not familiar with the note, but I am sure that I do not detect a trace of almond milk in this- at all. A pity, since I love almond milk.

It's a light, fresh flowery perfume that doesn't last long, but its short stay is very much appreciated. Lovely and pretty to wear during daytime, even for an innocent date, that would be cute.

It's not spectacular or ground-breaking, but because of the emotional value, I don't think I'll ever forget about this scent.

Rose Shower
Roger & Gallet is known for finely scented body care. Especially for the soaps, often in multipacks, very nicely packaged. Not so much for perfumes. However, the scents, particularly the latest series from which this Eau Douce Parfumée comes, are all beautifully crafted "classics" (Thé Vert, Gingembre, Bois d'Orange, etc.). By the way, they are preferably found in pharmacies.

This one revolves around the rose. And this rose is a very fresh, rosy rose. Not spectacular, not profound, but very likeable and also delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness to make it lovely, yet still dew-fresh. And just the right amount of woodiness to give it a slightly bitter development, without ever feeling like you're in a forest. The bottle made of frosted glass with the stylized pink flowers on it shows the way: delightful, rosy, zesty, fresh. Especially nice in summer, for that rosy-woody freshness kick.

The intensity of the scent is quite decent, unfortunately the longevity is less so. It's just an Eau Douce Parfumée after all. An overdose is therefore virtually impossible. But reapplying is fun, and the price is also agreeable. If you don't want to be too heavily perfumed but still want to smell good - here's a lovely rose.

Poor little rose, are you sick?
My recently discovered love for rose scents is not reciprocated here. And I was so looking forward to it....
Roger & Gallet's Rose definitely comes across as fruity; the mandarin is not discernible as such, but the top note clearly leans towards the citrus side.
Desperately, I wait for the rose to reveal itself. Nope, not in the mood today. At least not on my skin. A nice floral accord does emerge, but no rose in sight. Or should the Nepal rose smell so unrosy? One never knows.
There are white flowers, without a doubt, underpinned by light amber. I also cannot directly identify the almond note, perhaps through a slight sweet undertone in the dry down. But only very faintly.

Conclusion: a pleasant, very light pleasure, whose name slightly irritates me. However, aside from that, rose can be worn well during the day. Don't forget to reapply, very fleeting.

Where is the rose?
The number of fragrances, body care scents, and even more expensive perfumes that adorn their name, whether combined or not, with the word Rose(s) is almost overwhelming these days. But not everything that claims to be a rose actually smells like one.
From R & G, I had expected a natural, slightly spicy, warm, and sun-kissed rose!
But the disappointment was great from the very first spray when something green, unripe, and cold hit me.
The scent lacks depth or spice and is hardly lasting.
This certain bitterness comes from a slightly woody note and makes it unisex and, okay, very sporty.
It somewhat reminds me of Acqua di Gio by Armani, without the floral aspect. Yes, it is indeed a "rose" scent without floral notes!
I wouldn't have minded a non-sweet, spicy rose, but this!
R & G has released another fragrance: Rose Imaginaire. Maybe that one is better.

Now, at the beginning of July, the blooming roses are a feast for the eyes and sometimes a fragrant event that compensates me for the wrong purchase.

A Trompe-l’œil rose in aquarelle, hanging above an empty vase. Pretty bottle suited as gifts, would get sth. more substantial for the price.

Neuroses? They don't grow in the garden... But if they're fluffy, they can stay. Quite fresh and worth a try.

Oh wow! This is a particularly bright, airy rose. I've never smelled anything like it! Fresh, well-groomed, a bit green and MINE!

What a lovely one you are! A herb-fresh natural rose gives my stressed-out nose a little break. Thank you, Morticia!

Finally, a rose that works for the office too. Not overpowering or too heavy. I really like it.

Delicate, shy little rose that quickly hides away and then can't be found anymore. What a shame. I liked it a lot.

You smell so beautifully rosy! Mmh...really rosy-rosy! Compliment today from my neighbor. Almond milk and amber enchant. S and H moderate.

A beautiful, natural rose, for those who want a very subtle scent as the sillage is very weak.

A clean rose - it's fresh, but more dense than airy. Unsweet and soapy, and it will definitely smell pleasant to others, but not for me.

Light, fruity rose. I really like it, it stands out from other roses due to the top note. Sillage and longevity unfortunately terrible.
