Black
First seconds are sour, a bit plasticky. A lemon, no peel. It's of no importance, as this thing is going a completely different way.

No longer than 2 minutes later, some smokiness emerges. And seconds after that it transforms into a smoked leather. It really has a smokehouse vibe. In a good way. At that point it still could be associated with something edible. But not for long.

Another 5 minutes and the scent gets more and more technical. Now it's a black bag that's been hanging in a car workshop for years. Literally, it's a smell of black. You can still perceive some burnt herbs in the background, but still it's just a green, smoky aspect of black. Also, some white florals add to the leathery vibe - those are probably just my imagination as i don't see any in the notes.

Very masculine. Technical, maybe medicinal due to those well hidden green aspects. Rich, but simple at the same time. Wow. Too bad the Iris is flying under my radar here (certainly it plays some role i don't understand; i guess it's a part of this masterfully blended leather accord).

scent of danger
A strong, dark, smoky and lightly sweet phenolic opening. It’s tarlike and medicinal, like betel nut or black cardamom. Narcotic and makes my head spin, blackens my teeth and my lips with its juice. Eventually, the central accord (birch tar, from which I get the betel nut?) is blunted enough that I smell the woods on the drydown.
Birch tar is an ingredient used to create leather accords, but I just smell it as its pure, dark black substance, smoky, bitter and tarry. It’s a statement in and of itself. Using it this heavily isn’t common - you can find it in Patchouli 24 Eau de Parfum in high concentrations.

I don’t know if I would wear this every day but it certainly leaves an impression.
It’s a full-on, smoky green fragrance that takes no prisoners. A new Bandit (1944) Parfum or Cabochard (1959) Parfum.

Representative of Rogue Perfume's "DNA"
This fragrance is a very nice encapsulation of the through-line of Manuel Cross' repertoire, and I would imagine it to be a good jumping-off point for those who haven't smelled his other creations, or who don't have experience with any vintage colognes. While this isn't as unique as many of his other offerings, L'homme M. LaCroix is still a genuinely solid greenly floral leather, and could possibly garner more widespread appeal from those who are only casually into fragrance. It is a tad bit sharp at the opening for my taste, but the mid onwards is where this perfume shines. Truly appropriate to be dubbed his brand's L'homme offering.

Almost smells like a cross-over between Diaghilev Parfum and Bel Ami Eau de Toilette.

Woods & spices, dressed in a leather jacket with an iris boutonniere. Very dry, rough, earthy but an airy freshness like a dug-up garden.

It's so well done that it almost feels abstract: sharp green leaves, bitter, citrus undertones, hard wood, herbaceous florals.

Hints of old-fashioned leather scents. Unfortunately a bit too soapy and shallow, somewhat weak. Cinnamon leaf works well, aromatic spice. Nice.

Smoke drifts over the cool moss meadow in the morning, before the leather rolls over it. Delicate flowers nod from afar. Powerful, mysterious.

Nice scent, which especially in the top notes has some hints of Chypre Siam. The leather is a bit too sharp for me personally...
