Olfactory floral allure
A dervish is also the oriental personification of art, grace and elegance. With respect, however, that fits Rogue for me. The label has already released numerous high-quality and imaginative fragrances, not infrequently floral, not infrequently old school. Manuel Cross has often been able to convince and even professed skeptics, as far as floral fragrances are concerned, he could win over. Empirically, I can say that. Now Derviche smells for me like a typical Rogue but yet again different because clearly more complex. You have to devote several hours to the fragrance, read it to understand what has been created here.

The musk as a foundation seems well chosen here. I myself can musk quickly become too much, here he is clearly worked out but especially the combination with the tobacco gives him a dirty-rough aura. If one dedicates oneself intensively to Derviche, animalic notes quickly peek out. The civet is not dominant but noticeable - in the spirit of earlier classic fragrances. The more time passes, the more the smoky vanilla emerges. The incense envelops the vanilla but only marginally, accordingly the smoky note. The base continues to tower over everything and you can't help but teleport to distant desert landscapes in your mind and sit out there at night with tea, while cool wind comes up and takes the intensity out of the heat. Gentle wind, heated ground, that too is Derviche. Again and again one perceives the jasmine, the unmistakable, floral-honey element of this flower, which grows precisely where the deserts are not far away. In the process, it becomes successively more sensual, more enticing.

Derviche radiates different, even diametrically opposed properties. On the one hand, the fragrance is floral-bitter, seems so unapproachable. On the other hand, however, also inviting, oriental with feel-good aura. Only the persistence of the perfume seems quite low, fades too quickly but who that does not bother, which awaits after a good three to four hours a graceful, floral fireworks full of heavy passion.

Unique
Everytime I wear this I'm always taken back by the animalic/indolic Jasmin opening. I always wonder what I was thinking! Then 10-15 minutes later, I remember. This is bliss. The most beautiful slightly animalic musk with Jasmin. Truly, it's devine. And the longevity from an EDT is nearly unheard of. If you haven't tried this, your nose wants you to.

Dance, Derviche, Dance!
Derviche shines deep golden in the bottle. Like sweet, tempting honey. And exactly this picture transfers and unfolds to/on my skin. The bergamot melts into the amber and the animal notes shimmer lustfully behind the curtains. Anyone who knows honey animalics knows what I'm talking about.

This subtle sweetness that is so incredibly sensual.

Light leather and tobacco swing together with saffron on the second level of the fragrance and claim more and more spaces. However, the fragrance does not break out of its subtle eroticism at any moment, but creates further facets that are very harmonious and fascinating.

Derviche barely misses the mark as an animalic gourmand and yet is much more than his ingredients might suggest. It is sensual and playful - at the same time absolutely unisex and really unique.

Derviche. Rogue.
My first review from this fascinating house out of the U.S., composed by owner Manuel Cross. It is clear that most of this line is inspired early 20th century perfumery, but from what I have smelled so far, they very much have a place in a modern wardrobe.

Pipe Tobacco, Anyone?...
Derviche opens with just a hint of nose tingling orange bergamot, combining with much more substantial relatively sweet starring amber-like labdanum rising from the base with a supporting cherry pipe tobacco accord underpinning it before gradually moving to its heart. As the composition enters its early heart the amber-like relatively sweet labdanum and now deepening pipe tobacco accord remain now as co-stars, as the the labdanum adds a leather-like facet to the mix along with supporting gentle warm saffron spice and subtle hints of floral jasmine. During the late dry-down, the composition remains linear as it eschews some of its early sweetness and the jasmine floral, as a mildly sweet vanilla and soft woody sandalwood tandem in the base gradually emerges and takes the fore, coupling with remnants of the labdanum and pipe tobacco remaining from the heart now in a supporting role through the finish. Projection is very good and longevity excellent at over 12 hours on skin.

It took me a bit of time to completely come around to Derviche. The early amber-like sweetness comes off a tad synthetic smelling and a touch too sweet for this writer's aversion to sweet compositions. That said, the ambery labdanum calms down as time passes as the pleasant smelling pipe-like tobacco accord takes hold. While the composition is pretty linear so changes happen very gradually, the subtle emergence of the less sweet vanilla and sandalwood from the base sneaks up on the wearer as a nice surprise that almost goes unnoticed and ultimately clinches the deal. While I doubt Derviche will go down as perfumer Cross' best work, when viewed as a relatively straightforward ambery sweet pipe tobacco and vanilla composition, it is a successful one that is hard to dislike and much easier to fall in love with, as I did. The bottom line is the $150 per 100ml bottle Derviche may not show off Mr. Cross' immense talent like the much more complex Chypre-Siam does, but for what it is, the composition is an addictive and successful relatively sweet pipe tobacco focused "excellent" 4 stars out of 5 rated perfume that is recommended in particular to lovers of compositions like Tobacco Vanille, but want a bit more complexity.

Initially animalic spicy-floral, a warm and resinous, gently leathery, oriental spicy-sweet Winter fragrance, on a smooth musky-woody base.

Fizzy tobacco leaf and leather pop from skin. Thick and syrupy. Tobacco-first, vanilla-second frag, but less sweet and more dry than most.

The opening smells like extremely sweet etanol with sour jasmine, strong, off-putting. After toned-down, it becomes a quite good musky scent
