Dirty Rose
Rostracto opens with a very pleasant rose note. It's quickly obliterated by the appearance of a smoky-resinous scent. Perhaps "obliterated" is too extreme. "Dominated" would be better. The rose note is still there after the drydown, but very well hidden or subtle to the point where I'd say Rostracto is more of a smoky-resinous fragrance than a rose fragrance. Rostracto would be perfect for a guy who doesn't want to smell like any flower, even if it's rose, but somehow still wants a rose fragrance. Rostracto would fit the bill. For me, the rose is way too subtle after the drydown and the resiny-smoky scent isn't the best. For me, Amouage's Opus XII Rose Incense is more successful than Rostracto. Even Dunhill's Egyptian smoke is better, although slightly synthetic compared to Rostracto.

Rostracto's performance is moderate all the way around.

Rostracto - Rogue perfumery
Here we have a very dark and gloomy rose. It's hard to find one like this around, so very original. I smell a dense rose that is covered, but never overwhelmed, by woody, resinous and balsamic scents. I also smell a more leathery and smoky part that make the perfume very "aggressive" in the opening. In the drying, however, the perfume is smoothed out thanks to an amber base where the benzoin is well perceived.

the *actually twisted* rose with a twist
The rose hits you first, followed by the note of deep, intense pine and smoke. Sweet on top and somewhat bitter-green and herbal on the bottom. Fades to a lighter saturation of rose and pine, the smoke aspect goes away but it's still very, very resinous.

This is a surprising perfume for sure. The warmth and sweetness of the rose contrasts with the cold and dark of the forest and the char. Makes me think of several seemingly opposed plant remedies - at once rosewater and shilajit resin.
This is a rose-with-a-twist that actually has a twist, and does something different! I like it. Very rugged while also soft. I wish that Spice Must Flow went this far.

A specific kind of rose
Rose, sweet benzoin, woody undertones. Not much of fir balsam or oakmoss, yet it has a little of balsamic qualities at the start.

Royal Incense , Opus XII - Rose Incense Heritage Collection - King Throne Hoopoe - this one keeps a similar rose profile. Similar, not the same. It's also the sweetest of them all.

Charred wood? Yes, but not much of smoke - more like charcoal itself. It's going to get smokier soon enough, but only by a small amount.

Does it capture night rose (as the author stated)? I'm not sure. It's not too cold and dark. Maybe it captures "old", dry sweetness.

Overall it's pleasant; seems like somebody's everyday scent, not challenging for bypassers. It gets more and more interesting as time passes, revealing it's balsamic, woody and a bit mossy base, an hour after spraying. That phase is the most complex, making it much less feminine than it was at the beginning.

Edit: After washing it off this perfume leaves unpleasant leathery scent on skin. Probably some aromachemical; i've experienced that smell in Millennium Star, Amsterdam Intense "Taif T07 | Taif Al-Emarat / طيف الإمارات" among others. A fake leather note that's very boring and unpleasant to me...

Too Late?
Rostracto is a rogue. A bitter, dark rose chypre that surely won’t be found again.
The scent is more suited for Halloween than for spring.
So we arrive too late in two ways.
Also here in the fragrance. Because the complete destruction has already taken place.
We find ourselves in the darkness
of a deep fir forest, amidst wild, thorny underbrush. A place where people generally do not wander. Cold sleet pelts down on long-burned, black tree skeletons and dark earth. Some pines still stand. They have withstood the devastating fire. Rostracto is at home here. Smoke of the fire in tattered clothes. Bitter herbs in the pockets. Raw and harsh is his life in the depths of the forest.
Sometimes, from somewhere, the gentle haze of roses wafts over, a distant memory. A faint glow, immortal in his heart, day and night.
Indifferent.
Because it is too late, as mentioned. The complete destruction has already taken place.
And life goes on.
Rostracto shows us the way into the darkness, a place we would not have sought and found without him. Deepest, darkest forest, where an irritating rose either slowly fights its way to the surface and quietly unfolds its leaves with a dark red shimmer, or at least shyly appears as
a mirage, a memory of another time, a different, past life.
The scent tells of contrasts.
Dark, indifferent, advancing decay and simultaneously a steadily increasing, gentle glow of a glimmer of hope.
Does the impossible happen? Does the once blooming life return to this harsh, cold, herbaceous scent world?
The fragrance leaves us either in uncertainty,
or finally gives the rose the space to bloom in this inhospitable place, to become reality from a mere hint.
This scent truly lacks neither drama nor tension.
However, it is also demanding and overall not very pleasing.
I see it as a perfume for the male, if not rugged, even gruff lone fighter, who still appreciates a gentle rose note.

Smoky, woody rose. An airy rose scent carried about by camphorous fir balsam, grounded by the charred cedar base with ambery tones.

Flat and dry. Pissy rose and smoke. Not the good kind of pissy but like actual stale urine in a nasty underpass or a gas station bathroom.

You believed you could burn your love.
But that night, the grave silence was interrupted by roses.

Manuel is my friend
Because he burns roses
Into a mass
Of resin and leather
In the bitter green cold fire
On the scorched cedar
