A scent that captures the very essence of the earth's undergrowth
ADH begins with an startlingly fresh and mineralic opening . There is an immediate impression of fresh, wet soil; which you might scientifically know as petrichor, and which has been brilliantly recreated in this fragrance through the use of geosmin . It isn't long before a strange and slightly acidic note appears, that seems to derive from formic acid , another wonderfully clever play on the namesake of this fragrance - ant. The acidity isn't troubling, rather a piquant accent to the bold and intriguing opening.
As ADH evolves the heart reveals an edgy combination of earthy, green notes. There is a prominent mushroom accord, though not of the edible variety, rather damp, forest floor type. The mushroom note is woven together with the fresh, green, slightly bitter and resinous note of galbanum, and resin of the mastic tree. Surprisingly, there is an algae note that provides a hint of aquatic, deeply embedded in a landlocked ecosystem of vigour and humidity.
The chypre structure of ADH really finds its footing in the dry down. The base of the fragrance is built from a classic cannage of moss and patchouli that brings a dark, earthy character to the base. Vetiver adds a note of woodiness that is smoky; fir balsam is added that finishes the fragrance with a clean touch of coniferous character, that touch you get when the sun shines through a dense forest canopy.
