A Scented Tribute to the Catalan Countryside

Named for the medieval town in Catalonia where the brand is based, this scent is a true personal and aromatic homage to the farmers of the Empordà region who have tended to sun-drenched fields and forest.
When I put on TDM it is like going on a journey to the wide-ranging topography that defines the area surrounding Torroella de Montgrí. It is a fragrance of contrasts: Breathe in the lighter, aromatic herbs of the opening then quietly surrender to the deeper woods and resins in the heart of the scent. This is not a light scent by any means, it is fully formed; its olfactive presence is present and persistent, and the scent itself has a certain rugged natural elegance.

I would live in a forest

We enter the uncontaminated forest. A friend of mine came to visit me at my house, it was the first time. Seeing from the window that I grow some aromatic plants, he asked me for help because, since he had to cook when he returned, he was missing some ingredients. I took it to my garden, where we picked rosemary and thyme which are the notes you smell as soon as you spray this perfume. Appreciable openness, even according to my friend. Time passes, and Johnny (my friend's name) is incredulous when I tell him that my property extends far beyond the garden. So I took him to visit the forest behind the hill. After 5 minutes of walking, the first majestic trees appear. Fir trees and cypresses are the guardians of this green oasis. These are the notes that prevail in this perfume, to which are added as co-protagonist notes, chamomile which adds a fruity touch and eucalyptus which makes the accord even fresher. In the finish we are dealing with a multifaceted scent that is woody, fresh, but also, with the addition of labdanum absolute, slightly animalic and subtly sweet. Meanwhile, my friend decided to extend his visit by entering the woods.

Warm greens

On one hand, this reads as an aromatic-woody with lots of fresh herbs and an amount of cypress so big it seems the terpene bottle has tipped over while composing. On the other hand, there is a load of tree resins that makes it feel buzzing warm, almost ambery. Multi-angular or unbalanced? Whatever, I find the outcome pretty enjoyable: green-aromatic, camphorous and with a hint of turpentine.

Complementary to the warm green scent profile, this perfume features relatively low projection levels and lasts a good nine to five. In other words, TDM is a welcome addition to my office rotation.

Of Fragrant Herbs and Bitter Woods

Torroella de Montgri is a Spanish municipality in the province of Girona, Catalonia, and at the same time the seat and home of the Spanish label Santi Burgas. As a tribute to the town and this enchanting region, another part of the Primal Waters series was created - TDM.
The diverse and lush landscape, rich in plants and herb groves, served as an inspiring template. The goal was to create a reminiscence of one's homeland. Extracted from robust herbal blends of traditional medicinal plants, an olfactory portrait of this beautiful landscape was to emerge.

This all sounds incredibly exciting, albeit very ambitious. It is certainly no easy task to preserve authentic and regional aromas and transform them into fragrant impressions. But it works - more than successfully and as if crafted by a master hand. That much can already be revealed.

TDM initially offers a refreshing carpet of herbaceous scents, nestled in a Mediterranean late summer landscape. When you close your eyes, Torroella de Montgri provides a short vacation in the sunny south, allowing for a little distance and relaxation from the demanding everyday life…
Vast and hilly fields, lined with lush vegetation, are surrounded by rugged and barren rocks. Everything shimmers under the scorching heat of the blazing sun. The scent of thyme and sage mingles with the spicy air, and a gentle breeze carries the slightly sweet aromas of chamomile and lavender fields from the nearby surroundings. The wild rosemary climbing the rocks blends with the other scents into a beautifully fragrant mélange, conveying a sense of carefree freedom and boundless lightness.
To avoid wilting too much under the high sun, a few cypress trees in the vicinity offer their conical shade for a moment of respite. This completes the olfactory portrait, and the herbal essence is complemented by elegantly and beautifully fragrant woods of a bitter and ethereal nature.
The scent spectrum is never intrusive or feels forced. TDM enchants through the flowing interplay of the various ingredients; everything is cleanly and authentically woven together, resulting in a charismatic and very wearable fragrance. Even though I have never been to this region of Spain, the scent certainly suggests the aromas of this area in a credible and understandable way.

The longevity and sillage are consistently in the solid middle range. From my fragrance horizon, Torroella de Montgri creates a very unique and multifaceted veil, and certainly demonstrates a certain uniqueness in relation to similarly conceived fragrances.

Northern green. Has a camphor tenor while it wafts, but primarily, it's a cypress, comforting aromatic. Herbal apothecary!
