WRESTLING BEARS IN THE WOODS
A true shapeshifter. Complex, multi-faceted, always changing on the skin. It opens with a blast of wood. Freshly chopped wood, moss, forest floor. Sandalwood and cedar step forward right away, and I was instantly nodding in approval since I have a soft spot for woody scents. Then a surprise: no boozy notes are listed, yet it smells whiskey-like, as if from a battered flask tucked into your coat pocket. Soon tobacco and smoky labdanum take over, with raw leather rumbling in the background. On paper, this lineup sounds harsh and masculine, but the sandalwood keeps it smooth and wearable.

The tobacco is not the sweet pipe-tobacco genre. It is dry and aromatic. The leather feels raw, even a little rough around the edges, but that only adds to the mood. I was curious about the promised bread and tea accord, imagining something soft to balance the edges, but if it is here, it is definitely rye bread territory. Dark, rustic, spiced with caraway. No fluffy white rolls, no cozy tea and pastries. Definitely not a gourmand.

The scent is moody and atmospheric. Brutal yet smooth. Cohesive and well-blended, every note shifts in naturally without shouting for attention. Perfect for fall and winter, leaning masculine. Raw and transportive. If you want a scent that smells like it could wrestle a bear but also quote poetry, Tartan is your guy.

the molten gold of autumn
If you've ever smelled Hermès Ambre Narguille and thought, wow, this stuff is so sweet it's actually going to kill me...I think you might want to give Tartan a try. In reality, I don't know that they're all that alike, other than a rich woody tobacco-y October vibe, but while Ambre Narguille really leans into that syrupy apple compote, Tartan is balanced by acrid leather and an embossed flask of peaty, smoky whiskey. I smell a different aspect of it every time I wear it, but when I close my eyes it conjures wooly earthen moss, the molten gold of autumn, and skeins of snow geese low on the horizon.

If you want a scent that smells like it could wrestle a bear but also quote poetry, Tartan is your guy. Leather, dry tobacco, chopped wood.

Initially herbal bitter-sweet, a dry and pungent, smoky leathery-woody Fall fragrance, on a warm and musky earthy-woody base. Very masculine

The old tartan blanket naturally smells of Scottish whisky, but also of bread, leather, tea, wood, and a diffuse fresh note. I'm at a loss.

This is what the Kilt smells like after Hogmanay.
Euphoria and regret. Fell three times on the way home.
Tobacco, beer, and warm bread.

Wrapped in a tartan leather armchair, which smells of warm tobacco and bread. Autumnal stands the mossy manor house, in the cedar forest near the sea.

Not my thing at all, but well done. Slightly licorice, leathery, whiskey, and somehow a detergent note. Bitterly masculine.
