Kâshân Rose The Different Company 2013

This is a second rose perfume I tried from The Different Company. The first one, Rose Poivree, was unusual and interesting, but unfortunately it did not work for me. Kashan Rose is quite opposite. It is certainly a nice and very pleasant scent to wear, but at the same time there is nothing new or unusual here. I thought that Kashan rose would be an exotic oriental beauty but this rose is a sweet and good-natured girl next door – nothing exotic but very sunny, happy and charming.

The scent opens with a lovely combo of rose, lychee and peony. It smells pleasant and fresh. I thought that there was also a bit of sparkly citrus in it at first. The scent is just simply pretty and happy. Thankfully, it does not smell synthetic like many modern scents with this combo. As the scent develops, the rose becomes stronger. A little bit of hawthorn is a nice touch. The scent stays close to the skin towards the dry down. The dry down is a light rose and sandalwood.

This one I think is a crowd-pleaser. It is light and pretty and could easily be worn as everyday scent for work and leisure. And though I did not find this scent groundbreaking, I enjoyed a lot wearing it. Overall score 8/10.

A few days ago, I finally got around to wearing and testing this rose. I should have known that when the rose comes from TDC, I should expect something completely different. But I just didn't think about it and sprayed generously.

The beginning was quite nice, very fresh, very rosy, and delicate. This lasts for a good 20 minutes. But then!

The warmer Kâshân Rose became on my skin, the louder it got, this rose. But it didn't come alone. Along with the rose, a fresh, bright pepper note emerged. I almost felt like the two were racing, but neither could win. Sometimes the rose came forward stronger, then again the fine pepper. I was initially a bit confused, but then it became clear to me that this fragrance is from TDC, that is, the COMPLETELY different company.

Even though Kâshân Rose fades in the base and reveals a beautiful, soft wood note, it doesn't completely leave the field. After all, this is its territory!

Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann has truly created a special rose fragrance here. No sweetness, no cloying, no overt femininity, no run-of-the-mill composition! Whoever brings this rose home appreciates the special, what makes the art of perfumery so unique.

This rose surprised me, and I will surely wear it more often in the slightly warmer season. So don't be deceived by the pink liquid in the bottle! You know, camouflage is everything!

After I decided yesterday to put all my samples to the test during a day at the office, I blindly reached into the box and off we went…

At the beginning, I am greeted by a subtle yet warm rose that, in my opinion, comes across as very powdery. Hardly fruity, although you can sense the lychee, it has that certain light sweetness that canned fruits emit. Very sweet? No, I don't think so. The sparkling, cooling freshness of fresh fruits would have suited me better here. It tickles a bit in the nose, as if the pepper is saying. I would guess it's white ground pepper. Additionally, there’s some spice, indefinable, but primarily powderiness.

No, I thought, this could be a cheerful day. Did I mention that powdery scents can really put me off? Well, eyes closed and onward.
And this opening is remarkable in its variable slowness. It lasts a good 3 hours and is then infinitely slowly replaced by the rose scents in the heart. However, the heart impresses with a very successful composition of the three players: rose, peony, and hawthorn. While the rose has been present all along, a brighter freshness now joins in. I also think of white peonies and, of course, white hawthorn. I somehow think of ice cubes made of rose water, fresh green leaves with dew, sunny but cool days in spring, I think of frosted glass with cool white light behind it. I think of the loveliness of a virgin immortalized in oil, I think of the Venus of Milo, the well-formed, half-naked goddess Aphrodite, made of, of course, white marble.

But back to the scent. The rose becomes brighter, fresher, and incredibly delicious with each passing hour. I think of a huge, snow-white rose blossom in the low morning sun. After another 2-3 hours, this rose is fully present in the room. Snow white, cool, proud, and beautiful. I haven't even seen any white Persian roses yet. But Persian, flawless, perfect, and beautiful for sure. Every powderiness is lost, every spice taken away. I was truly surprised, as with every movement I perceived this very fine, pure scent that lifts the mood and gives a feeling of being freshly washed. The scent is slightly soapy, but less creamy. It lasts and lasts and lasts.

While I was still pondering the heart notes and planned to read the comments on Parfumo, I somehow missed the base. Or was there even one? Now it’s 7:47 PM. At 6:30 PM, I could still clearly perceive the rose. Now everything is gone. A hint of woods perhaps. Could also be my imagination. Where is the beloved sandalwood? Musk, oh I’m quite glad I don’t smell that. Musk strangely often comes across as sweaty on me. The ambrette seeds, OK, I have no idea how they smell.

I find the longevity quite decent at over 9 hours.
The sillage is quite good in the powdery phase, then the scent stays close to the skin.

Yes, I could at least imagine getting a decant of this. I will immediately thank the noble donor and ask for 10ml. And if I still like the scent afterwards, maybe even the bottle. If it weren't for the powderiness, it would be on my "want" list right now.

...and a good 2 years later, it has finally moved in with me.

Ah yes, Kashan Rose, what a fragrance! I became aware of this scent through a tip from a perfumist. One might think that innocence in a bottle doesn't exist, but here I have my doubts. Kashan Rose starts for me with a distinctly fruity lychee in harmony with a delicate pink rose. In the top note, alongside the fruity lychee, a hint of pink pepper as well as subtle sage and cardamom round everything off in a very airy, spicy manner. Absolutely subtle and not overwhelming, one is enveloped by a gentle fruity-rosy scent veil. If I had to describe it visually, a white summer dress with pink accents or the small pink ground-cover roses come to mind. For me, this fragrance has something innocent, fragile that almost triggers a protective instinct. Very light and delicate, this scent construct clings to the skin and accompanies one in the background for 4-5 hours. Time and again, my nose fleetingly catches this softly sweet fruity-rosy scent veil, making me pause. Beautiful. Even the base with ambrette seeds, sandalwood, and musk is so creamy and lightly woody that it almost goes unnoticed. The delicate structure gives it a certain feminine direction, which one must appreciate. However, I enjoy playing a bit with contrasts. For rose fragrance lovers, it's worth a test.

Kâshân Rose is playing cat and mouse with me. And it's been two hours. At first, I think: Oh come on, gone again. And then: Ah! There you are!
But let's start at the beginning. In the beginning was the word, namely Kâshân. It sounds like a target profile and I perk up. With Rose, I strike!
On the test strip, I like it so much that I immediately spray it on my wrist. Of course, with pepper, lychee, and rose, it practically screams my name. And since the scent has been residing on my wrist, I can't quite grasp it. Sometimes it's gone, then a light cloud of rose wafts past my nose.
I don't know whether to find this charming or fickle. Olfactorily, I find Kâshân Rose magnificent. So beautiful! It doesn't bother me that the rose isn't a diva, but rather very reserved. But to completely disappear every now and then? Is that a thing?
For now, I remain just as indecisive as the fragrance on my wrist. But I won't give up just yet. I like it too much.
