Oud For Gourmand Lovers...
Oud for Love opens with a fine aged whiskey note before quickly adding saffron spice with just a taste of the rubbery real oud to come. As the fragrance enters its early heart the early whiskey evaporates, leaving the saffron to join clove spice as compliment to the now starring oud with hints of sweet caramel, relatively thick castoreum and shimmering vetiver all rising from the base in additional support. During the late dry-down the castoreum becomes more prominent as the oud slowly fades adding just a tad of slightly sweet amber to soften the composition as the fragrance fades out. Projection is excellent, and longevity is stellar at about 12 hours on skin.

Oud for Love like its sister scent (Oud Shamash) displays what real oud is capable of in a composition when placed in the hands of a super-star perfumer like Bertrand Duchaufour. Here Duchaufour focuses on a more gourmand mix with its boozy open and sweet caramel-laced heart. The oud used here is far from obscured, playing a much more prominent role in the composition than its sister scent, but like that fragrance it never is obnoxious or wild, as the saffron balances it nicely allowing the oud to add depth and a roundness. It should be noted that the composition gets relatively sweet and at times especially in the early heart it can get dangerously close to being cloying, pulling back just short of crossing the line. At $210 for 50ml, Oud for Love is far from inexpensive in relative terms, but considering the real Laotian oud utilized along with its outstanding performance metrics the price is a better value than on first glance. The bottom line is that while I slightly prefer the less sweet and even more polished Oud Shamash of the two sister compositions, Oud for Love is an excellent 4 star out of 5 rated composition in its own right that gourmand lovers in particular should find extremely appealing. Highly recommended!

Oud. It’s like a buzzword in perfumery nowadays. Everything sells as long as it’s got oud in it and this one’s supposed to have the real thing. Okay, I believe it, it doesn’t smell like any designer’s oud I’ve smelled so far.
Upon first spray it’s like you spray a good bit of old peaty whiskey. I’m not a whiskey expert but this is the first time I recognize it clearly in a perfume. Earthy, a bit funky even. I love that, but it only takes moments.
After that, the big patchouli machine starts running. Thick, sweet and heavy. Maybe it’s the tuberose joining in. It’s really leaning towards burnt bubblegum right now. Maybe it’s the oud, I’ve heard several people comparing that to bubblegum. It’s thickness turns me off just a littlebit but still it knows to lure me in as I’m sniffing my arm all the time.
After that, like 4 hours in or so, that dampness starts to fade away. Occasionally I detect the most beautiful whiffs of earthiness, which I associate with patchouli too somehow, but the different kind. That might be my favorite part.
I understand that this perfume has a more masculine twin brother Oud Shamash and the drydown won me over to order a sample of that one as well as this one is more feminine leaning.

Creme caramel oud
Oud for Love is supposedly the feminine counterpart to The Different Company's Oud Shamash, which I also love, but to my nose, both of these fragrances are completely unisex. Oud for Love is as beautiful as Oud Shamash, if that's possible, but takes the (supposedly real, Laotian) oud note in a different, more gourmand direction than the smoke and woods of Oud Shamash. Here, the sour oud oil note is wrapped up in a gentle wheaten note, a hot breath of bread or cake coming from a baker's oven. The cumin, saffron, heliotrope, and whiskey notes are probably what conspire to create this impression, a thread of sweet grains or powdered malt linking them all.

There is spice, too, in the heart, and an earthy, creamy ylang note. But the lingering impression is of gently caramelized, milky, breadiness that buffets the medicinal twang of the oud to perfection, bringing to mind long ancient wooden tables spread with sweetmeats, honey, and freshly-baked bread in drafty banquet halls in medieval castles. Still, the balance tilts more towards woods than food, and it is only very subtly sweet, in the way that bread and milk and whiskey are contain a natural, round sweetness of their own. Highly recommended to people who find most oud compositions to be too harsh, sour, or medicinal - this is an oud that's been breastfed and wrapped up in a cashmere shawl.

different company different oud
Very different take on oud and ambre.
From very first sniff I fell in love with it
.boozy ambre which is passionate mingled with spiciness of clove on the openning then oud come across couple of minutes and complete the exotic oriental atmosphere of the perfume.times goes by an smoky animalic kick of castoreum appears on the dry down that creates kinda smoky leathery feel.
The bottom of the whole animalic smoky vanila and oud remains with a tiny touch of gourmand .

Thanks for the picture.
So, everyone beneath me is indulging in love fantasies, as if they’ve sniffed too long at nail polish remover, while it was "Oud 4 Love." That’s all well and good; there are just a lot of romantics and sweet talkers here, but the time has come to chop in with an axe and put an end to all this honeyed nonsense, because this perfume is simply overrated.
Maybe it’s the schliefer secret that’s clouding my synapses, but the high-end oud that’s supposedly used here could theoretically just be unrefined OSB board. The opening is alcoholic, rum-like, yes, even whisky-esque, and in the first half hour after applying, one should definitely ignore all general traffic controls and just keep driving. After that, it turns sweetly esoteric. I definitely feel like strapping on a belly dance scarf with lots of bells and pom-poms. The whole mess ends in a really sour vetiver, which is apparently sour for a reason.
HA! And vetiver, the main player in the grand scheme of things, has not been mentioned or smelled by any of you.
And that makes me wonder.

Well-intentioned 4 points.
Bertrand needs to come down to earth again.

Great funky opening that reminds of peaty whiskey. Thick and heavy patchouli base with a touch of burnt bubblegum ie tuberose.

It's an odd scent - like the anus of the most beautiful unicorn in the world. Somehow, it's so intriguing I can't help but keep smelling it.

Nice wearable fragrance, but don’t understand why it has “oud” in the name?

In the first part, a softly sweet oud scent. In the second, subtly cypressy with a hint of smoky vetiver. In the base, underlined by vanilla. Well balanced.
