Once upon a savage skin
When we still wore skins like savage leathers, sometimes shiny with cheesy smears, when we tended to fall into roseflower bushes, stitched the wounds with goat hair yarns, and cared for them with moss and resins, we stole honey from the bees with our bare hands, just like the bears, rubbed ourselves against birch barks, whose drops of tar left smoky trails in the earth and roots in the hair on our backs, before we lay down on old animal skins, tanned our own furs in the suns, dry the traces of the days, like mushrooms on the resinous scars of ancient Aquilaria trees, we were part of all the smells, we didn't need to disguise ourselves.

Zakir Gafur Laskar, best known for his former label with Nitish Dixit, “Dixit & Zak,” was initially the driving force behind the label “Ahom World,” which he eventually renamed “Zakir Gafur” in February 2025, thus realizing a long-cherished dream: to revive his family's fourth-generation business, which has always been closely associated with agarwood. The reason Laskar, who is originally from Assam, chose Dubai as the location for this venture is that he sees the city as a link between the Orient and the Occident and believes that his all natural craftsmanship would be more appreciated here. Primal Leather is quite challenging at first, with all kinds of animalistic leather notes (castoreum, hyrax, civet, goat hair), a slight barn-like scent, but above all cheesy wood (Indian oud) and an opulent Damask rose, floating in sweet vanilla resins (amber, benzoin, labdanum, styrax). Gradually, the rose becomes more tart and sharp (rose otto), but is kept in check by lovely honey notes and soft musk, before the leather takes on more contour with a touch of birch tar and saffron, moss, roots, and smoky, earthy grasses (cypriol, vetiver) pulling the fragrance out of its sweetness, Thai oud and patchouli add woody, earthy nuances before a truly original leather emerges in the base, as if all the floral, sweet aromas had dried up in the sun, leaving earth, roots, dark vanilla, and the typical agarwood resins, spices, and wood to leave their subtle traces.
