Too much sugar ruins the cake

The first few seconds of Majaina Sin are intoxicating with very sweet vanilla, chestnut and a bit of citrus that hint at great things to come. Sadly things take a wrong turn immediately: every new note that makes an appearance –heliotrope, amber, tonka beans– adds a new layer of heavy, powdery sweetness. A few minutes after application the fragrance is full-on feminine gourmand, floral and cloying and just too much for my nose to take.

Even as a lover of sweet scents I have to admit this one is not for me.

A Broken Promise

I expected an opulent fragrance, an oriental gourmand where spices dance with the warmth of sugar and wood. A bold presence, an intoxicating sillage. But Majaina Sin caught me off guard.

The opening is promising: a hint of candied ginger, a touch of maple syrup, a whisper of glazed chestnut. But it all unravels far too quickly, leaving behind a fleeting impression, like a cologne that’s far too shy. No depth, no mystery, none of the thrill one expects from a fragrance that claims to be both gourmand and spicy.

Forgettable, and a little cheap too. And to think I was expecting a masterpiece…

A Regretful Parting

Carefully positioned between sweet & spicy. I sprayed this and fell in love though I’m not usually attracted to sweeter scents. The soft spices and light citrus make for a delicious, mellow dry down. The scent is versatile enough that I could see myself reaching for it often and wearing it day to night. Unfortunately, the shop was sold out. I’m in a cab sniffing my arm and pining for what could have been. I’d love to test it a little longer and get a better feel for how it wears.

creamy and citrusy gourmand

a gorgeous winter gourmand full of whipped chestnut cream and candied oranges with some powdery florals to add some fluff. The opening is bright and zingy with a prominent ginger and oranges with hints of citrusy neroli and fluffy orange blossom. The mid notes offer a creamy and nutty medley with subtle maple and sweet heliotropes. The dry down is a tame vanilla with warmth to it and some depth coming from the tonka. The citrus maintains itself until the full drydown, but you still catch whiffs of that chestnut and maple.

i’m sure it’s for someone out there

to my nose, i mostly pick up ginger, candied orange, vanilla and something smooth smelling (maybe the chestnut cream or heliotrope?). as it dries down i the ginger fades away, and i got a slightly citrusy, sweet vanilla. reminds me of illicit by jimmy choo but more sweet and less spicy. not for me but i’m sure it would be perfect for someone else!

Gourmandish orange, vanilla, some maple syrup & a tad powdery. Pleasantly sweet yet uneventfully tame, if not lame. Good tenacity though.
