I admit it: I had already written a wonderful comment in which I philosophized about our newly built attic apartment in a small suburb right by the edge of the forest and made associations with this wonderful scent.
But somehow, that comment didn't sit well with me. It felt too banal, too... uninspired.
Sure: modern new apartment, suburb of a larger city, forest edge... business people and their connection to nature, where one goes to let off steam in the woods after a tiring workday and reconnect with oneself.
Even though it all seemed to fit, it somehow didn’t fit at all.
Because: this scent is more than that.
If I had to describe the scent in just one word, I would say “DIFFERENT.”
Patchouli Absolu may smell dark, woody, sultry, sexy, and earthy - but to me, it primarily smells different. Outside the Box.
Yes, after a long workday, I enjoy taking a walk or jogging in the adjacent forest. Most of the time, I still wear my smart pants, shirt, and sometimes even a blazer, depending on the weather. And yes, I love running there, feeling the ground with every step, inhaling the forest air, smelling the different woods. But, as I said, that all feels too banal.
So let me - to dedicate a worthy comment to the scent - think outside the box.
OPENING/HEAD NOTE - Out of the apartment.
On a cool autumn evening, it’s already late, my partner and I decide to leave the house once more for a walk in the woods.
Inside the apartment, it is warm, bright, cozy, and comfortable. But not outside. So we bundle up well, gloves, scarf, and hat are included. And off we go outside.
The first thing that hits me is the cool forest air. It’s uncomfortable. Pitch-black night, no moon in the sky - and even if there were one, there would be too much fog anyway. We walk into the forest, leaving most of the fog behind us, but some wisps still swirl around the trees here.
At the outset, it becomes woody right away. But nothing sweet. No, deep woody, creaking, old trees. The leaves still hanging on the branches rustle with the wind. The moss by the path smells strong and intense. The fallen leaves add their aromas. And again, a cold wind blows around my nose.
HEART NOTE - Deeper into the forest.
The deeper we walk into the dark forest, the more the scent of dark woods unfolds. The air is dust-dry, the ground almost resembles sand. I can feel the dust I kick up as I walk over this ground. The steps are loud, firm, and determined. Again and again, larger and smaller roots jut into the path. They smell of dark resins. Sultry.
The forest is not a coniferous forest, but a noble mixed forest, whose woods now unfold their full aromas in autumn, while the uncomfortably cold wind carries and mixes these throughout the thicket.
My partner holds my hand a little tighter than usual. And squeezes a bit more as we hear an owl call.
We pass freshly felled wood. These were not businessmen, no. These were strong guys who felled and processed the trees in the sweat of their brow and with painstaking labor. I feel as if I can even perceive slight nuances of their scent. However, this is quickly overshadowed by the enticing natural scent of these noble woods and, of course, by the resin that oozes thick and viscous. The shavings still lie on the dry ground.
BASE NOTE - On the way home.
We have surely been on our way for what feels like an eternity; it’s time to slowly leave the forest and head home.
The scent of the various woods accompanies us all the way home, just like the dusty earth that still clings everywhere to our new leather boots.
As we re-enter our bright apartment, it smells cozy and homely. It gets warm, and this warmth begins to warm our frozen bodies again. I snuggle up on the leather sofa, with a warm fabric blanket. My partner next to me. In the morning, she had put on some perfume, and now I can still faintly smell the tonka note on her skin. Tired from the walk and the cold, we fall asleep cuddled up on the sofa.
In the morning, I still faintly smell the forest.
Scent 9.5/10 - It smells of dark, gloomy forest with dust-dry paths and the noble resins of freshly felled trees, nothing sweet, just pure hard work. Very sultry and very sexy!
Longevity 10/10 - This scent lasts what feels like an eternity. Applied in the morning, it is still strongly present and clearly noticeable late into the evening. Even the next day before showering, it is still there, but then only very close to the skin.
Sillage 10/10 - A true sillage wonder. It radiates massively and is immediately noticed by others. Only conditionally suitable for the office, more for going out or special occasions where one wants to stand out.
Bottle 9/10 - Private Line indeed.
CONCLUSION: For me, a masterpiece of the most exclusive perfume art. Here you get something unique and special. Something that certainly not everyone has and that you will definitely be approached about. The scent convinces me with its noble and rare fragrance notes combined with incredible longevity and sillage.
