Grandma's Favorite Perfume
Rose Exposed by Tom Ford is this time not a mass-appeal fragrance, it is a niche scent. If I were to describe this fragrance, I can really only think of these two terms: rose and leather. I don't smell much more than that. But it's not your typical rose; it's an old rose, a fragile rose, and old leather, like from grandma. Probably the incense, cypress, and pepper ensure that the rose and leather smell like "grandma." The leather truly smells like that of a handbag that is 30 years old and has seen it all. The rose and leather even lean slightly towards a musty direction.
The scent may smell old, but it is very unique. It draws attention, both in a positive and negative sense. It is more of a fragrance for men and not worth a blind buy! You need to test it beforehand.

Unrussian Rose
His (re-)test came completely unexpectedly - at an airport and with not really comfortable transfer time - and therefore was not very meticulous and thus not really fair. However, I dare to say that I have acquired sufficient fragrance experience over the years to recognize and somewhat describe the essence of a scent even under such unfavorable conditions, and - as has already been suspected - I am quite sure: this is the discontinued Rose de Russie from two years ago or a very closely related bastard of it.

Not very meticulous and not fair for two reasons: first - obviously - because sprinting from one gate to another with a paper strip in hand (I consider myself considerate enough not to spray something on my skin just before a flight) is hardly the ideal setting to test a perfume without prejudice. And secondly, I did not have the comparison - Rose de Russie - with me, of course. Comparing a several hours old test strip from my coat pocket with a fresh scent from the bottle - I think you understand me...

Excursus: how did I come to Rose de Russie? I already liked it back then (as you can tell from my review), but I never saw it as one that would really improve my collection and therefore never seriously considered acquiring it. Then it was - for the well-known reasons that I do not wish to comment on or evaluate in this apolitical place (and I appreciate it as such and ask to keep it that way) - taken out of the program and suddenly became as rare as the lost Amber Room, as the owners of the Tom Ford perfume brand had decided not to sell it anymore, anywhere. However, when Galeries Lafayette in Berlin closed its doors forever last year, they may have thought: who cares - and simply put the last three flacons they still secretly had back on the shelf, unreduced until the last day, by the way. One of them then ended up with me - now or never! - as silly as such a desire-to-have buying impulse may be. And before the other collectors immediately ask me: no, I’m keeping it.

Tom Ford's Rose Exposed is - if not exactly the same scent as Rose de Russie - at least one that undoubtedly draws on its scent DNA: suede meets rose. Dusty pink meets burnt umbra. Androgyny meets bittersweetness. Temptation takes a backseat to aloofness. Pale light and tenderness-less warmth like a stranger's breath on cold fur. A rose scent serious and mature and grown-up and beyond playful flirtation. A leather scent like rough gloves in an abandoned park in winter - melancholic and deserted.

Conclusion: let’s simply forget that it ever existed. Rose Exposed deserves to be seen, experienced, and discovered today and here and for itself - in the name 'Russian' or 'exposed/uncovered', one adjective fits as poorly as the other. And yet this scent - although a relaunch from not too distant days - is special and beautiful.

Come on, Estee! This is just Rose de Russie with a name much more accepted by the tiresome propaganda narrative! :))

Dewy rose with lightly-fruity nuance. Smooth, balsamic white pepper. Supple, full-grain leather that feels like a green cigar.

Something here reminds me a bit of a Dusita rose. It's green dry jammy and carries a slightly soured cloying bite. Not bad, but not for me.

Dark, complex oriental scent. feels like Amouage in bottle of TF. The kind of scents that takes time to appreciate and quite polarizing.

Stunning rose fragrance with a dash of leather in the dry down, though I wish there was a bit more. Exceeded my expectations for sure!

Loud, blaring rose splashes over faux leather, synthetic streams everywhere, sorry, I'm out and prescribe myself a +
