Dirty, spicy rose

A unisex spicy rose-patchouli that's suitable for daily wear. The rose accord in this reminds me of the rose in Portrait of a Lady (POAL). Very inky, red, subdued by bold spice. A hint of greenery. You can pick out the ylang ylang too which is a nice touch. I love that the frankincense is noticable in the composition. This is NOT a jammy rose, nor is it particularly sweet.

It has quite an unpleasant hairspray opening, but dies down in a minute or two. Following that, realistic coriander and cardamom immediately burst forth.

I'm honestly quite pleased with this find. I love POAL and Rose 31 by Le Labo, but both of those are not suitable for professional wear, the former being too rich and intense, and the latter too cuminy. This has a more subtle projection, it sits closer to the skin, brooding and evolving. It dries down into this dreamy rose incense that i can’t get enough of.

I think this perfume only has a low rating because of the misleading name. Yes there is coffee, but it's not like a milky latte, or even freshly brewed filter coffee. It is grounds thrown onto the flowerbed — earthy, dirty. I can see myself reaching for this regularly.

A beautiful take on an elegant, sophisticated rose.

From the sampler, it's a beautiful dusty and creamy rose. As soon as I spray it, it is a gorgeous, almost soapy rose too. It is slightly frightening, but I am beginning to love rose fragrances and I've been an adamant hater of rose since youth. The matter of fact is though that I'm not "the youth" anymore. I'm a 34 years old.

My nose has gotten rusty and I do not dare to check when I posted my last review, but I am struggling with identifying notes.

The rose is rosing. I sense a spice undertone of perhaps cardamom and coriander, but it is ever so slight. What I do love, is that the spice undertone grounds the fragrance and makes it woody rather than a floral fragrance.

As I mentioned in my stories, my sample is quite old and I must say that my wrist is itchy, but I would not say that the scent has gone rancid. Not by the slightest.

Bare with me as I find my way back to reviewing fragrances, but my first-hand impression of Café Rose is this:
Entering a classy sphere of mellowed rose accompanied by the grounding notes of spice. Without alluding to anything wild, the spices only make the rose elegant and sophisticated. Beneath slumbers the creaminess and suede softness of sandalwood and frankincense.

Café Rose is absolutely gorgeous.

Rose and patchouli

Despite what the name of the scent says, there's no coffee for me here.

Café Rose is all about rose and patchouli, slightly earthy.

I personally find it quite pretty and not particularly old-fashioned but the price, on the other hand, is exaggerated for such a simple and linear perfume.

It won't be difficult to find a rose/patchouli duo at a lower cost.

Also der Duft erinnert mich SEEEHR Stark an Rotwein.
Als Mann gibt es für mich nicht genug Anlässe wo ich ihn tragen würde, trotzdem mag ich den Duft
Wäre ich eine Frau würde ich ihn zu Anlässen wie Dates tragen dafür stelle ich ihn mir Perfekt vor.

Ich habe ihn bisher nur 2-3 mal getestet auf Haut und er hält lang für Tom Ford Verhältnisse 4-6h habe ich ihn deutlich war nehmen können was für viele Dates wahrscheinlich reicht aber zu vielen anderen Marken im vergleich nicht Herausragend ist

Wenn die Dame bei einem Restaurant Date mit diesem Duft ankommt stelle ich mir die Dame "einnehmend" vor nicht Zwingend Dominant aber eine Frau die im Leben Steht weiß was sie will und auf eigenen Beinen steht für mich Kein Mädchen Duft eher Dame

I called Café Rose - the old, first one from 2012 - the most beautiful within the Jardin Noir collection at the time. The other three it has long since dahingerafft, and basically it makes sense that this one - although 'degraded' by the Private to the Signature Blend, with Costa Azzurra they have also done - a second life and a second chance should receive. If he were then still 'he'...

The boundaries between quotation, inspiration and banal reformulation are difficult to draw clearly, but if one deliberately carries the same name that already had another before him, he will also have to be measured against it. This one - Café Rose 2023 - is not doing that well. Most does not get the relaunch - if Rose is replaced by patent Rose®, even less.

I attributed a certain weightlessness to the old, first Café Rose - like a torn moth's wing tumbling along in the light of a pale moon. He had something rapturous and sad - and even then hardly any coffee - and the new one has none of that. Café Rose 2023 is a workmanlike, passable rose scent from a retort - with so much less soul and saudade than the first one had not even ten years ago.

Now, it may be that the substitution of Rose for Rose® is due to regulation. But I dare to doubt it, because it is an American fragrance and produced mainly for the market there. Instead, I accuse Estée Lauder of disdainful greed for profit and am tempted to propose the 'cream puff of the year', because 'less in it with dishonestly altered packaging and misleading naming'. Boo!

Conclusion: who has not known the old, may well fall in love here with innocent nose, and she or he be granted. Who has ever known the old, loved, worn, passes.
