Someone has to do it...
Sometimes you are very excited to write the first comment, whether it’s about highly anticipated new releases or beloved hidden gems. America for Men is neither of those, but today was still the perfect opportunity to test this Fierce clone more closely. Because soon I’ll be showering, as I’m heading to a birthday party and then to a club. Therefore, I only had about 8 hours to test today, not the whole day as usual. I chose 2 test candidates that I had low expectations for, which might not last too long on the skin either. Just perfumes that didn’t deserve a super detailed testing day and an ultra-original comment. And if one of them surprises me, I’ll just test it again this weekend. As expected, that was not the case.
Anyone who has ever smelled the Abercrombie product will be reminded of it immediately. And anyone who has been in an A&F store will never get the scent out of their head - whether they like it or hate it. I love it, as does my girlfriend, so I really know Fierce down to the scent notes. America resembles it 98% in its best moments, and in its worst, you turn away shaking your head. At least the name is very aptly chosen by Perry Ellis, as Hollister and Co. now represent the United States so strongly in the rest of the world that one might think all under-18s are surfer models in the USA.
About the scent: fresh pineapple, a very sharp, almost aquatic-synthetic scent. A lot of artificial lavender, even a bit of minty-floral freshness. The creators must have really liked Nightflight, Le Male, or even Chopard's Heaven. The slightly darker leather finish differs somewhat from the originals, which isn’t necessarily a plus point given this lack of execution. Versatile, youthful, and summery, the scent remains so or so. Overall, I have to tell the otherwise great iParfumerie once again: get better samples that you can offer to your regular customers ;)
Bottle: can it be any more clumsy and unattractive?
Longevity: loses its strength extremely quickly - 5 hours. Very fitting today.
Sillage: initially at the level of the original, then quickly revealing its weak true self.
A Fierce double, trying hard and occasionally okay, but nothing more. Similar to Montblanc's Legend, better than Police's Illusionist.
