Get it for the bottle, not what's inside

Varensia is extremely pleasant on, and it wears like a light oriental on me. I sense the oakmoss but it's not brash or loud. Varensia just doesn't have the presence of a chypre on my skin.

I've seen here (and elsewhere) that Varensia is inspired by Gianni Versace by Versace. I can't make the comparison. But I can say that Varensia is not in the style of a big 1980s powerhouse, aggressive scent. Rather, Varensia is an agreeable, pleasant scent. It lasts 4 hours or so on me. First 2 hours are good, the next 2 hours are muddy & murky. Best in warm (but not hot) weather, I think.

So beautiful "Vintage" in sunny light!

I am a big lover of "vintage" fragrances! And I have quite a few of them. "Rochas", "Guerlain", and "Caron" are part of my collection. Now also a "Varens" from 1994. Which is immediately associated with "Carons". First, for quality reasons, second, for the scent style, and third, for the bottle design.
Here, I am mainly focused on the scent itself, which fulfills all criteria of good taste for me. A soft charmer in the "old style"!
From the very beginning, bright "colors" greet you. Just like the first warm rays of sunshine in spring. The scent of "jonquils," also known as fragrant daffodils, is distinctly noticeable. Combined with orange blossom and mandarin. Yet, the fragrance also radiates a certain coolness. Not aloof or "proud," rather the coolness of an early morning, where the last traces of night frost are "licked" away by the rising sun. Friendly, well-meaning, gentle. And yet quite opulent, without being overwhelming. A good hint of spice and several woods give the beautiful fragrance that final touch. In between, a fine hint of powdery iris and a bit of jasmine. Everything is well-measured and not too sweet. In its entire appearance, a wonderful and rich scent that could be an "old Caron".... And also slightly "festive" ... EASTER!? ;-))

From spicy-woody to soap and back again.

I really like the first phase of this fragrance. Nicely spicy-woody with some citrusy and amber-like hints and plenty of flowers. Jasmine-rose-iris, so far so good.
But then a truckload of green and white striped Fa soap from the 90s comes in and ruins everything.
This soapy note lasts for several hours and surely has its fans here.
However, with the bottle and the opening, I would not have expected that at all - heavy, floral, spicy: yes. Soapy lily of the valley club: no.
The same strange "swimming pool" note that already bothered me in Vanderbilt and Chloé is also present here. I would love to know what that exactly is. An aldehyde? It can't be chlorine.
This second phase of Varensia spreads an incredibly aggressive, clean-soapy freshness that I unfortunately do not like at all.
After about 5-6 hours, the fragrance calms down again and becomes mild patchouli-woody. Phew, made it. In any case, an exciting fragrance journey. The longevity is not bad either.
No matter what it says up there, if there are no (synthetic) lily of the valley notes in it, I'll eat a broom.
