If it is love...
With my recent perfume purchases, I was reminded of my original fragrance direction - rose scents - after spending time with older rarities. Then came Isis/Coquette - truly worthy of a princess, followed by So Pretty Rose Verte, AA Flora Rosa, Ta'if, and Rose Privée. I saved the 'platinum treasure' for last - Shiseido White Rose (Extrait de Parfum).
I had to wait a long time for this fragrance, which was hardly available in Europe. In the meantime, production has been discontinued, and there are only a few copies left to buy in Japan. And that’s where my latest treasure comes from, straight from Japan. Despite free shipping to Europe, it was no bargain. If I tell you that I had to pay 40 euros in customs fees alone, you can surely imagine the value my White Rose holds. It is thus one of the most expensive fragrances I have ever purchased and yet worth every cent!
I carefully removed the plastic wrap from the beautiful, round, and very sturdy perfume box. The bottle, made of heavy crystal and shaped like a bell (it reminds me a bit of Aigner's No. 1), fits wonderfully in the hand. It was tied with a silver thread, and I got to open it for the first time. I admit, I celebrated it. Very carefully, I cut the thread, twisted the glass stopper, which came off easily after an initial hesitation. I applied just a dab of the slightly yellowish and slightly oily liquid to my wrist - yet the entire living space smelled of white roses afterward. White roses of the kind that I have been nurturing on my balcony for a few weeks, which bloom tirelessly. They bear the beautiful name Schneewittchen and smell so delightful that after a warm, sunny day, the whole (quite large) balcony is fragrant with them in the evening.
I could not find a pyramid for White Rose, and unfortunately, I am not proficient in Japanese, but I am convinced that primarily white roses were used here. Right after application, it takes about 20 minutes for the scent to unfold. It has no actual top note; at first, it doesn’t really smell like rose, just very strongly unsweetened floral.
But the scent 'settles' on the skin and then reveals this beautiful, delicate yet distinct white rose. It smells almost exactly like my Schneewittchen and lasts a very long time on the skin.
With a few exceptions, I like all my rose fragrances, but there are a few among them that hold a priority position. White Rose stands in front of these few fragrances. It is the absolutely most beautiful rose scent I know, which surely also has to do with the fact that white roses are my favorite flowers. Those who prefer magenta or dark red roses, which represent the fiery rose scents and are associated with the tango dancer or Carmen, might find White Rose too gentle. It is more like the reserved geisha, dressed in light pastel colors, shyly looking down at the ground.
I am very happy that I have added this little geisha to my fragrance collection, and I will surely wear it with the corresponding feeling of happiness.
