Bombshell Passion — Victoria's Secret: Joyously Sweet and Femme
I feel like every time I've tried a rose-based perfume recently, they've been heavily green garden scents rather than the velvety sweetness of summer roses. More woody thorns and rose leaf than blossoms, really. Dried potpourri rose petals at best. (Demeter's Dark Roses I'm looking at you.)
Bombshell Passion nails it, though. This is a wet, sweet rose and delicate, airy peony. Soft, bright, cheerfully femme. It's simple, but uplifting: an instant good mood.
The cassis rounds out the profile to keep it from being completely immature and bubble gum pink, but it still feels quite young on me -- the kind of young I feel like I've never been, if that makes any sense. Carefree! Optimistic! Utterly unafraid of accruing credit card debt!
It's also definitely giving casual daytime shopping trip rather than hitting the club, which would be more what I expect from a VS scent. But I may be biased; I did grow up during the VS Angels' heyday, when VS = the hot party girl. It seems outrageous given the branding, but this would be a perfect fit for both a peppy twenty-something on her own for the first time OR her younger tween sister.
Is Bombshell Passion kind of basic? Sure. But though its notes are fewer, I think this particular flanker has more going for it than the original version. I admit it's possible I've just smelled Bombshell too many times out there in the real world, so now it just reads as "bland," and this feels fresher and more pleasant as a result.
Final Verdict: It's straightforward, happy and girly. If you're into that? Go for it.
