I keep on falling in and out…..
….of love with you…..

Today - very current - I am again "highly in love" with Volkamaria……tomorrow, however, that could look quite different :-D…...but, as they say: Live in the moment..!!

And the moment says: What a beautiful fragrance…!!

Volkamaria starts wonderfully spritzy-citrusy…....with delightful bitter bergamot and fine, unsweet mandarin…..

The transition to the heart note happens surprisingly quickly and quite immediately……from the citrus freshness, a soft-powdery, velvety-white iris emerges in no time at all …..flanked by moderately sweet heliotrope……

A little bit of the initial bitter citrus still lingers in the background……and that’s a good thing…….without this "fresh" counterbalance, the fragrance could easily risk losing itself in heavy tonka sweetness……..however, it is excellently balanced and doesn’t come too close to a "sweet hater" like me……..

My personal little stumbling block - so to speak, the "falling out moment" - is again the rose, which I almost always perceive as sour-fruity…….but it is - as I said - just a small and very "personal" stumbling block…..especially since this rose episode is only a brief sequence in the fragrance experience…….

From here, Volkamaria becomes wonderfully soft, gentle, light-creamy, and musky-fluffy……and - very importantly!! - despite tonka and heliotrope, it still smells fresh, light, and elegantly maintained…..

The longevity is surprisingly good…..which I will just attribute to some artificial molecule on a hunch (possibly musk) …….luckily, in this case, it’s one that doesn’t make me recoil in horror ;-))……

Hats off to this stubborn beast!
Before I finally got to smell the fragrance, I did a bit of research on its background.

The term "Wiener Blut" was coined in 1873 and describes the special temperament of the residents of Vienna during the height of the monarchy: a mix of zest for life and frivolity - the decadence of the Fin-de-Siècle.
Thus, Wiener Blut is an antithesis to the "blue blood" of the rest of the European high aristocracy.
The fragrance is inspired by the fashion, art, and luxury of the Imperial and Royal Monarchy of Austria-Hungary.

I had high hopes for the fragrance, as I found not only the inspiration behind it but also the notes themselves to be very interesting and beautiful when I reviewed the fragrance description.

Thanks to a dear friend, I was finally able to test the fragrance extensively:

First, I can perceive fresh citrus notes - bergamot and mandarin with a hint of light powder.
The opening is quite nice, but not extraordinary.

After the citrus top note "evaporates," I can clearly detect the iris and heliotrope, light and floral with a touch of powder.

However, after about 1.5 hours, "the tables turn," and a very synthetic and biting sweetness completely overshadows the previously lovely fragrance... From then on, there is nothing else to smell on my skin.

I must admit that I no longer like the fragrance from that point on... Since I had sprayed the fragrance on both wrists, it almost knocked me out, because the scent is really STRONG!!

So I tried to wash it off one wrist... 4 times lathering up and even applying hand cream over it, but you just can't get rid of it!

Hats off to this stubborn beast!
I had to endure it! Even after showering and "sleeping on it," I could still perceive the fragrance...

Only after the second shower the next day, with plenty of lathering, was I able to "get rid of" Volkamaria... that pesky tick!!

Anyone who enjoys sweet-synthetic and long-lasting fragrances should give Volkamaria a try... For me, it was simply "too much of a bad thing"!

It must be the temperament of the Viennese ;)

Love at Second Sight ...
For a long, long time, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to add Volka Maria to my fragrance collection. I first tested this scent two years ago, but I wasn't sure if it was really for me. After spraying it, Volka Maria is simply wonderful, light, pleasant, fruity, slightly powdery, pure spring, meadows, sunrise. Unfortunately, the longevity was a bit too low for me; even though I was often told, "Wow, what fragrance do you have? You smell so good," I could no longer detect it on my skin after just a few hours. Recently, I was in a winter perfumery that had a sort of flea market. Fragrances that they would no longer sell in the future were offered at heavily reduced prices. That's how I snagged Volka Maria for an amazing 30 euros. Although it didn't convince me during the first test, I kept thinking about it. Now, I wear it almost daily and even enjoy it for sleeping. It was probably love at second sight.

Volkamaria, the Forgotten Flower!
Such a fragrance, dear perfume friends, one does not find every day.

A fresh summer morning around 1930.

A young girl sits under a white birch tree, daydreaming. She has brought a basket filled with fresh mandarins and lemons. In the background, the breathtaking panorama of the snow-white mountain peaks.
Her face radiates as she is already lost in thoughts of the evening when she will go on her first date.
The birch tree, standing close to the village church, provides her with shade on this dewy Sunday morning. Its white bark exudes a balsamic, woody scent.

After a while, she gets up, walks to the church, and takes a quick peek inside. In the pleasantly cool darkness, a fine wave of silvery incense greets her. She is touched by the scents of the wonderful flowers around the altar. She quickly lights a candle for her grandfather, sends a brief prayer to heaven, and lightly descends the church steps, out into the young summer day.
Filled with anticipation, she walks home. On her way, she passes a field edge where she discovers a few beautiful blue-violet flowers. She picks a few along with their roots and places them in her basket.
Once home, she makes herself a refreshing lemonade from woodruff blossoms.

Then she goes to the mirror, takes her bottle of pure rose oil, and applies it to her face. Once it has absorbed, she takes her powder compact and powders her nose.

Now she wants to write a few verses in her poetry book. Full of expectation for the evening, she writes her thoughts and feelings of anticipation from this morning into the book. Excitement is written all over her face. Yet her expression is lovely and soft.

Will he like her? Will her natural beauty be enough for him? Just a touch of white powder and a little rose oil? Will she not seem too aloof, so white and shy? And above all: Will he remember her later? Will he not forget her?
Her name: Volka, Maria. A true Viennese blood.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Yes, dear perfume fans, this fragrance has captivated me.
My impressions are as follows:
A fresh, tart, cool radiance surrounds me with the first spray.
White, powdery, creamy, buttery-woody
Fluffy continues.
Cool woodruff fizz
first perceived at a distance
then warmer and sweet.
Balsamic woody...
Smoky earthy. In the end, soft and mysteriously velvety...

Stunning composition. Takes some getting used to. Surprisingly complex.
A must for iris fans.

When I tuck a woodruff blossom into your buttonhole, there's a trace of my lipstick on your iris-gray shirt. And my scent.

For me, the Prada Infusion d'iris is mega-elegant. Lasts until Baghdad and is never overpowering. Honor, Viennese blood. HONOR! :)

Pastel green iris: rough, woody, leathery, powdery-buttery, a hint of plant sap, delicate white flowers, silver smoke & softener musk. OK.

I open Mom's makeup bag and smell luxurious lipstick, softly powdery, unobtrusive, feminine. Over it, a fine dust of blossoms. A feel-good scent!

Elegant, powdery, and sublime iris is complemented by a slightly sweet tonka.
It also has something fresh and clean.

Misia has dressed up for summer. Lightly made up, in a lemon-yellow flutter dress, she enjoys the warm, lovely iris breeze.
