An ode to creamy sandalwood
This is a very refined rendition of sandalwood which emphasizes its intrinsic creaminess without obscuring its dry side. It feels a bit like a lactonic Tam Dao Eau de Toilette, and as such, I have the same core critique: it's a bit plain. From the opening to the drydown, we have essentially just sandalwood. Delectable, yes, and also just one of my favorite notes out there, but on its own it lacks the depth or complexity that I'd expect from a truly exceptional perfume. Nevertheless, there's a lot that this scent has going for it.
For one, the fact that it manages to make a diverse array of ingredients — at least according to the listed notes — cohere into a unit so naturally and tightly that it registers as homogeneous and one-dimensional is in itself already quite an achievement. I also find it impressive that the sandalwood is dominant from the very beginning, despite being more commonly used as a base note. Indeed, at no point does the perfume betray its woodsy core.
Furthermore, I'm also impressed by the fact that the creaminess mostly comes unaccompanied: there's hardly any sweetness or fruitiness to speak of. And while the milky undertones do put a gourmand twist — particularly in the drydown — it remains subtle enough that, despite being somewhat prone to nauseate, my sensitive tummy remains largely unfazed.
And lastly, the (presumably) humorous name is just the cherry on top.
