Friendly-Happy Spring Scent
Today I will write a few lines about this pleasant spring and summer fragrance from Yves Rocher.
I have been wearing it at work over the last few days, and usually I receive a comment after wearing a scent for a few consecutive days.
Retropical is not a great masterpiece and belongs more in the category of "nice and good, but nothing outstanding." Nevertheless, it is solidly made and much better than other overly sweet fragrances.
Retropical is fruity-sweet, but not too sweet, not annoyingly sweet. Despite the light sweetness, it feels fresh and is very suitable for pleasant spring days in everyday life, and it is also wearable in the height of summer, even though it fades faster due to the heat.
It is not very complex, but I primarily smell mandarin and something that resembles passion fruit.
The bottle has a pretty gradient, with a salmon color at the bottom and turquoise at the top. The box features a tropical rainforest scene with macaws and hibiscus flowers. A bit kitschy, but still pretty.
A nice everyday scent for warmer temperatures.

The Lightness of Being in Summer
Before this summer soon comes to an end - at least meteorologically - I want to make sure to mention the friendly Retropical and dedicate a few nice words to it. For me, it is a pure summer fragrance, which is not surprising given the timing of its release, the presentation, and the inherently summery scent ingredients.

It arrived at my place in early summer, and it fits perfectly there with its cheerful optimism, carefree attitude, youthful spirit of adventure, paired with a warm nonchalance that it radiates olfactorily. The concentrated load of citrus fruits presented to us here according to the ingredient list surprisingly comes across as not very fresh; rather, a gentle, warm sweetness takes center stage right from the start, predominantly underlined by the mandarin, which determines the entire course of the fragrance --- if one can even speak of a course, as I perceive Retropical as a relatively linear scent.

Now, the origin of Ms. Mandarin is undoubtedly TriTop Mandarin, that strange concentrate which was a hit in the 70s for mixing drinks, here: mandarin juice. In other words: more on the sweeter side. Bergamot can't help with that, and the orange appears as the sunny big sister anyway. But that’s okay. Retropical is by no means sticky-sweet, definitely not loud, definitely not artificial (despite the TriTop association), but simply soft and warm like skin warmed by the southern sun. One has just eaten a sun-warmed southern fruit from the hand, and the fruit juice still sticks a little to the hands and olfactorily mixes with the scent of warm skin.

It is important to note the distinct coconut note in Retropical. As my predecessors have already observed, there was apparently no stinginess in using coconut, even though this is not mentioned by Yves Rocher; however, perhaps the fantasy note "hot sand" is supported precisely by this, which it does in a certain way. Personally, I find the coconut here pleasant, not too strong, not too sweet, just right to evoke a "summer feeling" without smelling like one has bathed in coconut oil SPF 2 (also a relic from the 70s, by the way, which surely, as my predecessor already noted, is not entirely unintentional on the part of Yves Rocher, and the advertising agency may have also scored an extra bonus with the wordplay RETROpical here).

And so it remains perceptible for about 4-5 hours, with an environmentally friendly sillage that gently and warmly envelops me and fundamentally lifts my mood. I can't help but let a relaxed smile play on my lips, feeling calm and relaxed, in harmony with the world and myself. A fragrance of carefreeness, a sociable scent, yet unexcited, smooth, young, warm, and composed. The sweetness is fine and unobtrusive; it is a scent that, despite its youthfulness, I believe is suitable for all age groups.

Personally, I associate not the "hot sand" here with the beach, but rather with a garden or terrace. To be more precise: a Mediterranean terrace, and after a day's work, one meets with friends, perhaps even new friends, to spend a spontaneous, cheerful evening together. It is warm, stones and wood still radiate the sun's heat of the day, you hear music, you dance, you joke around, you engage in lively and relaxed conversation, you flirt ---- in short, a wonderful summer evening, a wonderful balmy summer night is celebrated here unpretentiously and calmly.

Since I also like to connect fragrances with music, there can only be one piece that perfectly reflects this perfect day and the perfect evening: Beth Hirsch's "All together" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6i2iTbazng The serenity, the oneness with oneself and one's decisions, letting go of past burdens, the liberated and relaxed -- all of this is reflected in the lyrics, and the images perfectly convey this feeling of life.

Retropical is for me the lightness of being; it stands for openness, carefreeness, friendship, warmth, lightness -- things that simply make life easier. The fragrance simply puts me in a good mood (even if the wasps chase me when I wear it). Please smile! :-)

Sport Bag Scent
This is really a fine and affordable summer splash, for me more in the category of "body spray" than perfume. In any case, the scent convinces me here far more than the candidates from the Biotherm Eau de Undsoweiter series.

Delicate, warm citrus notes far removed from any dish soap associations combine with velvety vanilla and a light cream. This is beautifully feminine, sporty, unobtrusive, and delicious. The name may confuse a bit; nothing here smells tropical or even "retro," but that's just fine! It somewhat leans towards "Innocent Light," and right after spraying and even in the later scent development, it reminds me a lot of that Mugler, just in a more subtle version.

Like Kitty, I also detect a slight coconut note here, yet the scent remains largely unsweetened and fresh; I always enjoy that typical "freshly showered" note. Anyone looking for a nice splash for their sports and beach bag should definitely give this a sniff.

The citrus fruits are basking in the hot sand with sunscreen on ;-)
As an old YR fan, I just had to get this summer scent. I'm already in love with the retro packaging. The bottle isn't that pretty, but the packaging! *in love* and then the name Retropical, oh how lovely... :-)
Now enough rambling about the little fragrance:
At first, I only smell alcohol; once that fades, it smells like mandarin in orange juice. The bergamot somehow comes off as grapefruit to my nose.
The warm base indeed resembles hot sand with sunscreen, just how I imagine a summer scent, wonderful!
I also detect a hint of coconut with vanilla, slightly sweet-warm, a dream...
It's not too sweet for me, just right.

The longevity isn't enormous, but for an Eau de Toilette, it's quite okay. You can always spray more; it's a 75ml bottle..
I think the scent is worth a test spray; it develops very interestingly, in my opinion.
I feel like I'm on the beach in Honolulu :-)
Best, Kitty17

Escada can do better. Canned mandarin, Tritop, plus coconut and that sand note that others call "Solar." I don't want to smell like this.

No freshness, but still summery-light: creamy mandarin-orange mix, a hint of coconut, nothing (that) bothers me - I like it, I wear it.

Very subtle, pleasant scent, creamy with mild citrus. But only noticeable with a very generous application.
