...so boring...
*Cue up The Price Is Right losing horn*

I received a mini of this and immediately put it on this morning, after I had already sprayed a subtle amount of Les Nuits d'Hadrien. I thought the conditions for which to wear either citrus scent were perfect; it's about 90°F right now. I was reminded of my former love of all things hesperidic. There was a time I would have loved to possess a bottle of Sel d'Azur. That love was modified and shaped by perfumes like LNd'H and Eau des Merveilles. Sel d'Azur is boring.

Is Sel d'Azur bad? Absolutely not. I'm wavering between 'like' and 'ok'. It hasn't changed in the last four hours. It smells like tart citrus with a woody base. It hasn't budged one bit and I do not think that's a bad thing. However, I've been exposed to other, more complex hesperides and, sadly, I'm no longer enchanted by this. I'm certainly not enchanted at their asking price ($55 for 1 oz).

Maybe I'll grow to enjoy this mini. Chances are good, though, I'll forget about it and eventually pass it along to someone who will love it more.

Wish it had more oomph
With Nouveau Genre and Sable Fauve in my collection, I am excited to try other fragrances from Yves Rocher.
They have changed a lot since I tried them first many years ago.
Sel d'Azur has a fresh marine opening with citrus at the top. Soon the fragrance loses its airiness and becomes a citrus aromatic. Which citrus? Do not ask me, Sel d'Azur is one of those fragrances where the notes are undefinable.
According to Fragrantica, the top note is grapefruit, at the middle is Virginian cedar and at the base, Haitian vetiver. Do I smell cedar in particular? No. Maybe vetiver? No, not really. The fragrance is just an accord of freshness, citrus, slight aromatic and woody notes.

I sprayed some more and now I get the grapefruit, but it is fleeting. Sel d'Azur alludes to summer, it really is a fresh and beachy scent, I just wish it had more power. The longevity is poor and the sillage very intimate.

If I could be very critical, I would wish for a more juicy grapefruit and a more prominent vetiver or cedar, one or the other would suit me fine, I just need a fragrance to be more charismatic than this.

Do not get me wrong, it is nice, but it's lack of charm is what makes this fragrance nothing more than "nice".

Oceanic Feelings
While "tasting" the new Rocher fragrances, I remained interested in Sel.

Of course, you can't smell salt - but I still had the notion of being close to the sea.
By the sea, I also enjoy the salty air.

And Sel d`Azur strikes me as aquatic and very refreshing due to the citrus notes.
The vetiver adds a hint of sweetness while grounding the fragrance.

A successful combination - reminiscent of a beach walk.

The scent takes me to the deserted beaches of Calabria - for it conveys vastness and tranquility.

Simply sitting in the sand, looking at the sea - and between two heartbeats believing - now there is peace.

Nordic Freshness
When summer gave it one last push in mid-September, it was finally time to head back to the High North, specifically to St. Peter-Ording. Our vacation in May had fallen victim to the tourist ban in the state, so we enjoyed every day by the sea even more. We have loved this place for decades.

Now I have a favorite spot in mind with the Westerhever lighthouse in view. That's the one with the two little houses next to it. Salt marshes in the foreground and a small harbor. In autumn, a captivating scent of beach asters wafts over, mingling with the spiciness of the herbs from the salt marshes and the smell of the fresh sea. Delicate and a little bitter, not as intoxicating as the rapeseed in May. Plus, the vastness and plenty of distance from people, right in the middle of nature.

Back here, I found an offer from Yves Rocher at the post office. I haven't really been into Uncle Yves' descendants lately. I miss some things that made the company great for me. But that's a different topic. I stumbled upon the offer for Sel d`Azur, and the pyramid appealed to me. This could be something for me. Otherwise, it would be for my daughter. I ordered it, and the package arrived.

With mixed feelings, I tested the blind purchase and was very pleasantly surprised this time. The beginning was citrusy and fresh, but not like dish soap. Then floral, bitter notes joined in, and with the freshness from the start, it was simply beautiful. A little salt came in too, and with my eyes closed: I was back at my favorite spot on vacation. Even after about 3 hours, which is a rarity with YR lately, the scent was still there. It faded gently, like moving away from the sea.

This time, a very successful fragrance, which I find a bit too fresh for autumn and winter to wear. But I can always transport myself to my favorite place in the High North with it. The bottle is simple and designed in the new, puritanical YR style, which fits the scent for me this time; opulent crystal stuff doesn't suit it. It's too straightforward for that.

Lemon Fresh? Lemon Fresh!
Oh God, how long have I been searching for a lemony scent! One that still smells of lemon after 1 hour! To be honest, I gave up hope after many "I've got it now!"..."no, not really, sigh." Well, never mind! It doesn't have to be. There are more important things in life. I had actually sworn off Y R as well. Promises too much without delivering. As for natural cosmetics, pfff. But in Munich, in the pedestrian zone, there’s this tiny Yves Rocher. And it was just my last working day before my vacation. I think it’s the best day in working life: the last working day before vacation. 2 weeks of vacation ahead of me. High spirits. And then I just went back into Y R. Just quickly to the fragrances. I had this feeling... Well, there they are, the fragrances. And with each scent, a short description. "Floral," "oriental," etc., and then for Sel D `Azur: "lemony fresh." Hmm. Alright. First on the test strip. Wow, really quite lemony! Okay, I’ll take the plunge. I spray it on my wrist. And I must say, I really like it! I can still smell lemon after 1 hour and even after 2 hours. It becomes softer, possibly soapier? But not a problem. I would say it’s suitable for everyday wear. Or even vacation wear? After a while, something joins the lemon. Maybe the Virginia cedar? Or the Haitian vetiver? Maybe. I can’t say, because I don’t even know what those scent directions are. But I like them. I then bought it and want to wear it on my city trip to Hamburg. It’s so unobtrusive. So fresh. I was just curious how the remnants of the perfume would smell on my jacket the next day. I really don’t like it when a stale scent lingers the next day. But no, even here the "blue salt" scores points. Only a light pleasant trace remains. So, to summarize, I can say it’s a fresh lemony everyday scent. No more and no less. It hardly changes. Just somehow becomes softer. With pleasant sillage. "Lemony fresh"! Off to Hamburg, with Y R in my bag!!!

I was really surprised by the quality of this one. Grapefruit slightly salted with a light vetiver aftertaste. Long-lasting and interesting!

Grapefruit juice, a little bit sweet, and dry, noon-bright cedarwood; the dryness comes out ahead. Coastal and grown-up.

This salty delight on the palate when sipping spiced lemons.
Cedar more than vetiver, beautifully floral rounded off by musk.*

Today is going well. A citrusy good-mood freshie with an aquatic touch. My 2020 remix has a worthy successor.

Citrusy fresh and green fruity scent. Of course, everything here is made with synthetic bases, but that doesn't bother me.

A solid summer scent for a rather low price. Citrus-fresh opening that slowly transitions into a green freshness. Not really for me.

Sweet fruity-sour watery grapefruit. Lightly sparkling. Lovely floral touch with clean musk. Subtle woody spiciness. High-quality.

Citrusy freshness with vetiver without a cleaning product association. Salty sea air not necessarily, but zesty-bitter, slightly green.

YR shows again that current fragrances don't have to be expensive. Grapefruit, cedar, then unfortunately way too much Ambroxan. Good start, bad finish.
