Unconventional Freshie Classic with an Oriental Twist...
An exciting sample that I received from Raindrops. Sprayed on, did a little research... 1999? At that time, coming out with such a "niche" scent was probably a big hurdle. Well, nowadays it would be categorized as an "oriental-tinged freshie," but for its time, it was truly a masterfully composed freshie with an oriental twist, perfectly blending tradition and modernity in harmony.
Now, onto the scent:
- The opening is fresh, but not ordinary. A beautiful citrus accord that has a subtle spiciness and floral nuances, and yes, a bit of booziness. Very intriguing. After that, a classic lavender unfolds, which lightens things up a bit and sweetens it minimally. As it develops, the scent becomes creamy-woody through the sandalwood, and subtly dances this woodiness with the initial freshness; the oud is extremely minimally dosed, practically barely noticeable in the background, but yes, it is there. Wow - fresh oud, simply dreamy.
- In the drydown, the scent becomes a bit earthier, spicier, and slightly herbal due to the anise, a "warm" earthy-spicy freshness. Great.
- Longevity and sillage also surprised me; I must say, that's really top-notch for a freshie!
Overall, the scent really surprised me positively; I wouldn't have expected something so bold for this vintage. Niche, oriental freshness in a bottle. Definitely worth a test!
