An Underrated Gem

I've had this fragrance for a little over a year now, and my love for it continues to grow with time. This is one of my favorite fragrances that I own, and along with Blueberry Morning, it is my favorite from Aromas de Salazar.

The opening is a beautiful candied orange backed by a creamy vanilla note. After about an hour on skin, the orange and vanilla are toned down, and the Cambodian oud is the standout note, along with the powdery almond and florals that emerge throughout the dry down.

This is a great summer gourmand from Aromas de Salazar, and I truly believe it is a near-perfect fragrance.

Woody orange ice cream

Orange Oudsicle is surprisingly simple given Aromas de Salazar's oeuvre. Opening with a creamy orange ice cream and slight hints of almond and coffee, the scent is rounded out by florals and woods. The oud in the base is not smoky, sour, animalic, or medicinal; it simply makes the fragrance slightly darker and woodier the longer it is on your skin. Great idea for the fragrance and well-executed, probably my third-favorite of the sample set after Santal Vanille and Blueberry Morning

Creative, well-named oud and orange creamsicle

Sampling Aromas de Salazar Orange Oudsicle, a creative blend that fittingly smells of an orange creamsicle (an orange/vanilla ice cream treat on a stick), like Blueberry Chypre and Cola Oud, a highly innovative mix of contrasting elements with strong performance, a fun semi-gourmand. As is often the case, the opening is a bit spicier, more biting, and intense, while the dry down is smoother, creamier, and sweeter. This is case where I prefer the more toned-down dry down the more intense, pervasive opening, but I think that many will find the evolution to be interesting. Beyond the orange, vanilla, and oud, this is rounded out with florals and woods, but the three main notes are the main story, and I enjoy what Michael Salazar has done with this.

Orange Oudsicle is priced at $175 for 50ml, in the middle of the house’s range, very reasonable in the current market for a niche, inventive perfume that performs well, and is sold via the house website and Perfumology.
