Authentic
Similar to Raspy Oud by Aromas de Salazar, Oud Vanille is a two-dimensional fragrance - despite additional ingredients. The vanilla is not recognizable as actual vanilla; rather, it brings only a subtle sweetness. According to Michael Salazar, this fragrance is concentrated at 50% fragrance oil content. 30% of the entire composition consists solely of Cambodian oud. I agree with a previous review of this fragrance and also find it very ‘cokely.’ However, unlike my predecessor, I consider the scent to be quite successful and harmonious. It undoubtedly requires some acclimatization, but in my opinion, it is an extremely authentic representation and staging of the scent of pure Cambodian oud. Admittedly, I also see the fragrance more as an interesting experience of the raw resource ‘oud’ rather than a finished perfume, yet I like it very much. Some time ago, I had the pleasure of smelling unrefined Cambodian oud oil, and it smelled identical, aside from a few nuances that are likely influenced by the other ingredients in Oud Vanille, even if they are not distinctly perceivable. For this reason, I regard Oud Vanille as a kind of successful, sprayable oil attar. If someone is wondering whether it is comparable to The History Of Cambodian Oud by Areej Le Doré: No, it is not, which is likely due not only to the quality and maturity of the oud used, the processing/blending, but mainly to the other ingredients in Oud Vanille.
