Sweet and thick concoction of blackcurrant, sugared rum, and resins
Unfortunately I think Immortal Lust is a case of overconfidence and overexcitement by this young indie perfumer. From the couple of fragrances I had sampled from Aromas de Salazar before getting this current discovery set, and also reading his opinions online (which he is not shy at sharing), I had gotten the impression that he is an "everything and the kitchen sink" kind of perfumer, who throws lots of complex accords, and lots of expensive naturals, into a fragrance. Sometimes, like in A Rose by Many Names, this works out and creates a nice, albeit a little bumpy and rough journey. But in Immortal Lust, the bumpiness and roughness is increased.

For a fragrance that is supposed to be built around immortelle, I get a dizzying array of notes that I don't think very well complement the soft, herbaceous, slightly curry-like scent of that flower. The assault begins with heavy mouthwateringly sweet blackcurrant and pear. The soft florals of the heart of this fragrance are flanked from the other side of the pyramid by a syrupy sugared rum mixed with the heavy ambery tones of myrrh, patchouli, and vanilla. I've used heavy twice in two sentences but that's what it feels like, just weighted down by thick resins and syrups.

Definitely not my cup of tea, but still unique and complex, so I have to give some credit for that.

Interesting multifaceted mature wintery blend - floral, spicy, semi-sweet
Sampling Aromas de Salazar Immortal Lust, a spicy, floral, semi-sweet blend that blends a strong floral heart of jasmine sambac and immortelle with an assortment of citruses and spices in the opening and a multifaceted base dominated by resins and woods. It’s strong and complex, apt for cooler weather, and feels very formal and likely more targeted for advanced, mature noses. The main standout notes for me are jasmine, immortelle, lime, cardamom, myrrh, rum, birch, vanilla, and sugar. It does not land particularly sweet, despite starting out sharper and drying down smoother, as is the normal pattern. It remains highly interesting throughout its lifespan, though, and I enjoy the smoothing over as it dries down.

It’s priced at $175 for 50ml, roughly the average for the house, and particularly considering its nuances and exceptional performance, that’s very reasonable in the current market, in my opinion.

Overall, I quite like this fragrance but need some more time to unravel it, but I absolutely recommend that others try it. Some might very well regard this is as the crowning achievement of the house to date.

Polaroid Picture of a Summer
And then summer moved on with all the images of the orchards, the light of limes inside the pears that flicker like Super-8 films. Almost carelessly, they brush against your eyes before they drift away in silver-glimmering threads of cardamom, in a moment of white blooming on a jasmine petal.
Polaroid photos will now develop in warm colors of the filled haylofts, the spicy-scented golden grasses, the tiny sugar crystals on them, the vanilla fibers swirling in the sun, in the light beams that drip like amber onto the sweating wooden barrels with remnants of rum and crushed cloves turned to dust on the dry earthy floors. Time paints more sweet sepia brown onto the pictures of your memory.
**
Michael Salazar from San Diego, California, places great importance on creating scents that are different, that do not conform to clichés. All his creations are handmade, drop by drop, as he himself writes, and contain high proportions of natural ingredients.
"Immortal Lust" is for me like an idealized memory of past summers. There are for a few moments fresh, almost faded citrus fruits, the shimmering flesh of a pear, a few currants that blend into a bright jasmine bloom in a sharply spicy idea of ginger and cardamom. Then the immortelle becomes distinct, hay-like-spicy embedded in sweet myrrh, individual sugar crystals, amber, and dark vanilla. At first, a hint of rum still flutters in the air, evaporated from dark, rather dry woods that give the amber tones more depth with earthy patchouli, clove buds form a bitter-spicy counterbalance, keeping the scent from becoming too sweet. Thus, a wonderful, rather subtly moderate summer photograph is created that can be admired for several hours.

Warm, honeyed, round and enveloping, slightly smokey and spicy. The pear and ginger add a really interesting dimension.

It's okay, nothing more. Dominant jasmine with an indolic tendency at the center, immortelle adds a spicy counterpoint, eventually takes over.

The sweet rum on fruit compote would ruin everything for me, but the earthy, spicy immortelle that remains noticeable saves a lot.

Simply exciting! A hint of pear & co. on earthy ground. Immortelle breaks through, countered by jasmine. Dark-fresh.
