I'm not even hungry
I thought this would be more savoury and gourmand, but having worked my way through both sets, I'd say the perfumer's taste leans more refined than photorealistic. In light of that, I understand how we got here, but I'd really have liked something that reminded me of pho at all. This is very much a fresh fragrance, heavy on basil and bright zingy ginger, light on anise, which I would like a lot more of. It's very herbal, very perfumey, a little soapy. I would never smell this and think of pho, and it's not my favourite of the d'Annams, but this would be a very safe wear basically anytime and especially in the summer.

Is it pho? Does it matter?
Pho Breakfast definitely has all the ingredients of pho minus the oily, salty chicken and fish sauce. So it`s cool, fresh, and savory, but it is only an approximation of the Vietnamese soup. Is that a bad thing? Personally, I`d rather not smell like fish sauce, but that`s just me. The perfumer has selected the best ingredients to create an artistic impression of the most pleasing facets of the famous dish. Pho Breakfast is zesty, zingy, green and citrusy. It`s a fragrance that can be worn easily by anyone.

Pho but make it wearable
A weird but enjoyable interpretation of pho that feels fun and fresh, yet warm and familiar. It definitely nails the smell of pho but somehow doesn’t feel too “foody”. It opens with sweetly green basil and a sparkling ginger paired with some warmly dusty star anise. It’s green, slightly sweet, and fresh. The heart becomes even greener with a brightly aromatic cilantro with tart citrus. The dry down is more woody forward but with remnants of that warm and sweet spice, fresh and aromatic greens, and enveloping coziness.

WHERE THE PHOCK IS IT
D’Annam definitely tried to make a wearable, friendly version of the aromatics in pho, but you really wouldn’t think of those delicious soup noodles when smelling this.

I was excited for Pho Breakfast because of its name. It starts off very citrusy in a way that I enjoy, much like the opening of Commodity’s Tea (RIP). I’m smelling a strong, sour orange note with some ginger here with hints of something deeper and more herbaceous. After sitting on your skin for 30 minutes, the sharp orange takes a less backseat and gives in to a more balanced blend of green basil, cilantro and patchouli. I don’t get star anise at all, and wish that was more pronounced. Nothing savoury, gourmand or pho-like about this, sadly. Safe, pleasant and fresh unisex scent for the summer, nothing to worry about or really get super hyped about. I would wear this if I was craving something refreshing with decent performance, but nothing mind-blowing. Very butch lesbian scent

Pho-get Something?
"Hương was washing dishes at the restaurant when her mom called out, “The supplier forgot I needed double today! Can you grab more ingredients from the market?!”

She quickly biked over and grabbed cilantro, ginger, basil, and star anise.

Loading her basket, a citrusy scent pulled her in. It was a Dien grapefruit! She decided to surprise her mom with one for their altar.

Hương hurried home, proud of her haul.

Unpacking, she paused.
No chicken."

Story inspired by a recent trip to Hanoi.

Masculine leaning green wood. Soapy sharp herbal musk. Overwhelming javanol. Nice pho spice from a distance, not on my skin.

It smells like the toppings of pho. If you like basil you’ll love this. I didn’t read the notes beforehand so…was a bit disappointed.

Super creative. The pho spices are distinctive & pungent but the overall scent manages to stay refreshing & bright. Soapy patchouli dry down

This is a really interesting aromatic fragrance. Fun to experience, but I'm not sure I want to smell like it. Pho soup made wearable.
