Lipstick from Grandma's House
This opens up as a more 'mature' scent for sure to me, with heavy powder notes. It is slightly floral, but I actually think this floral compliments it quite well and feels 'sweet'. Once that opening of powder wears off, it leaves this wonderful vintage lipstick smell behind. It feels very nostalgic to what my grandma's vanity smelled like. It has that chalkiness to it, honestly I can't describe better than just a well loved lipstick. After some time, I start to get 'expensive floral hand cream' vibes + it fades into a more second skin comfort scent.

I was really surprised by this one, as floral and powdery notes typically don't do much for me, especially when they are the star of the show. But this feel like my grandma in a very special and intimate way (not to dull it down to being an old lady scent - bc wtf is that?) It's not on my personal full bottle worthy list, but it is a very nice scent that I think will really work for some people.

Exacting and Carefree
A Refined older woman. Someone who scares you a little at first. Pursed lips, deprecating tension stationed across her brow. Collected blasé... Broken by a benign smile and a quick wink.
Dry humour, kind gestures. A person you appreciate for her authenticity. Dependable.

Situated at her vanity before a night out, freshly bathed; planning to have a glass of white or rose moscato. I also see a senior geisha powdering her snowdrift skin, shoji open; magnolia wandering in on a soft spring breeze. Sake in ceramic cups.

This perfume fits nicely into routine. An extension of a state of being. It may be too assured of me to say that Kimono is perfectly balanced. It is just enough coy and just enough confidence.

Starting off a little sour and inundated, the note of rice flour (which translates more as sake tbh) pushes it's way to the front. A bit daunting. Only to then lead you toward this wonderfully fine magnolia, lipstick aroma that is only enhanced by a cashmeran silk. Of course, all nested in the initial ricey starch.
It sits close to the skin, however you will find yourself enveloped in a pleasant fragrance from time to time..perhaps curious as to who smells so nice, only to realise it's you!

Truly a respectable scent. I think I just found a new signature for daily wear.

powdered pearl
Clean, elegant, antique. A powdery lullaby livened with lipstick. Kimono smells like borrowing the coat of someone much more fashionable and mature than myself. It’s as demure as Sakura Snow, but with a huskier tone. Office-safe, yet intimate. Sometimes you can’t be a sad dirty rat girl and you need your perfume to give you that kick in the pants to get your workweek together. There’s a beautiful rice note in the opening, however it evaporates within minutes (much like White Rice, sigh), though the lipstick thickens with wear. Musky, waxy magnolia petals drift in around the thirty minute mark and carry the scent for hours.

Mental Snapshot: A boudoir dripping with silks and satins, a vanity gleaming with lacquer shells of powder and bullets of rouge. The costume department of a royal ballet. Or the estate sale of an elusive starlet.

tl;dr: opulent dress-up

a dressed up gourmand
Magnolia: a rich, decadent, luxurious floral note. The magnolia is apparent on paper but plays second riddle to the rice flour on my skin. To me, it's the mature version of the Strawberry Mochi, and the two scents are placed next to each other on the discovery kit. If someone wants a sweet, rice-based perfume but without the trappings of strawberry and how it may appear juvenile, Kimono is the alternative in the scent.

On the dry down, the gourmand rice flour disappears. The silk and powdery notes now play with the magnolia as the rice flour disappears creating a lovely, light scent.

Fresh floral powdery gem, smoothly done
Kimono, from the Chapter 2 collection, recently released by d’Annam, blends some floral elements with dry white rice, sort of a cross between White Rice, from the Chapter 1 collection, and Sakura by Dior. Its notes include magnolia, powder, and white rice, primarily, and to that point, it does have a little bit of magnolia’s signature sweetness while generally being a cross between powdery florality, freshness, and the dry hearty aspect of white rice, more central to White Rice, but still present here, almost with a buttery orris quality, as well. It’s feminine-leaning but still quite easy to wear and pleasant despite not being among my very favorites of the house (I prefer White Rice, itself, for example). I would still argue that it’s outstanding, however,

Kimono is EDP concentration and currently sold only on the house website, priced at $150 for 50ml, similar to the pricing of most of Chapter 2.

I see a geisha holding a spray of flowers, demure but confident she is seductive in her subtle way, Red lacquer lips against her snowy visage.

Familiar. Soapy powdery rose. Rice. Hints of green. Clean and cold. EEK! 30 min: getting sharp ammonia and headache. Sucks, started so well.

Starts off with a sake/alcohol note, then old fashioned lipstick, then dusting powder notes. Doesn’t work on me.

It starts off kinda fruity to my nose, but it overall has a clean silk soap smell. There’s also a smoky and vegetal element that I like. Fun

lightly floral, soft petals, and really smooth powder. There's something almost cold about it. Pretty.

Rice flour and cool, smooth silk. Not incredibly complex, but definitely gives a refined, calm impression.

An interesting, sophisticated mix of floral and starchy rice. A bit strong at first, dries down to a pleasan subtle and light floral scent.

Starchy and pleasantly sweet, like the powder dusting mochi. Not a bad impression of rice at all.

Powdery and silky. Feels like a silk robe falling off my shoulders. Innocent and sexy.
