Great Misstep
Did my Christmas shopping and then went into Rossmann for deodorant. I was loaded up like Santa Claus and quickly put my things in the cart. Deodorant had to be included, and my usual store had been rearranged. A quick grab from the shelf and off to the checkout. Why put on reading glasses when you only have two arms and could really use several at the moment? At home, then a long face. Instead of my usual deodorant, I had bought Miss Fenjal Eau de Parfum.

Actually, I’m not that fond of the scent of the turquoise Fenjal. I prefer the offshoots. Well, maybe the Eau de Parfum is better than the scent in the bottle, so I bravely tested it. What a pleasant surprise!

The beginning is fresh and floral, like freshly washed laundry. Shortly after, rose and jasmine join in. With the fresh start, it’s really great. The dry down then features cedar and patchouli, creating a wonderful scent that, thanks to the cedar, has a slightly creamy and powdery aroma. I’ve loved patchouli since my wild days in the 70s, and here it rounds off the scent and grounds it elegantly. Longevity is okay for me at 4 hours.

How glad I am about my misstep in the shelf, because the Eau de Parfum has nothing in common with the other turquoise variants. Neither with the old scent of the bath nor with the other offshoots that also go by the name Miss Fenjal. One can describe the scent as subtle and elegant. Not striking, but also not old-fashioned or stuffy.

The Scent That Isn't One
Due to sentimental, beautiful memories of the scent of the oil bath from earlier, I asked my son today to bring me a bottle of the EdP from the discount drugstore with the horse, but when I heard the price, I blindly ordered 2 right away, as it was no more expensive than a room spray and I thought to myself, I could also use it as such in case of need (the scent - not the son ? ).
So I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of my offspring along with his loot, could no longer contain my curiosity when I finally held the two "bottles," which looked like small deodorant cans, in my hands, sprayed directly on my forearm - and recoiled:
The mist escaping from the aerosol spray dispersed like a deodorant in my surroundings and immediately transformed into a cloud of - the cheapest hairspray! ??
I took another look at the bottle, but according to its label, it is clearly supposed to be an EdP.

I tried the second bottle - unfortunately with exactly the same result.

This smell (yes, SMELL) has as much to do with the scent of Fenjal body care as an elephant has with classical ballet and is not even suitable as a room spray because the whole charade is over after about a minute and nothing, but absolutely NOTHING is perceivable from it anymore - thankfully.

The Change of Time
-Back when everything was better-
So this saying became ingrained, everyone knows it, and is it true?
It's a matter of taste, I say. In 10 years, today will also be considered back then, and people will likely have completely forgotten the olfactory shelf warmers, reminiscing with a smile about the selection of cloyingly sweet fragrances (which I do like!).
Fenjal is probably more of a shelf warmer... with a little halo. When I go into a perfume store/drugstore, I walk straight past the new, brightly lit fragrances, heading into the "cheap section." There are treasures there that hardly anyone notices or has ever smelled. My sister-in-law works at Müller... I showed her a few scents: Marbert, M. Asam, and the Fenjal... "These are all grandma fragrances," the perfume department manager said to me... I sprayed it and rubbed it under her nose... Well?
"This one is great!!"
So for 4 euros, you get a gem that smells like freshly washed laundry rolled in baby powder. Even for the younger generation wanting to expand their olfactory horizons, it's a fragrance worth trying. Not everything was better back then. But you can literally smell the work and effort put into it, and I love it because it is simply simple. A woman didn't have to envelop the pedestrian zone as a walking fragrance tree in a cloud back then.
Fenjal is more intimate, and there is hardly any sillage, which probably wasn't the goal of this fragrance.
A scent from back then for the woman of today.

How It Smelled Back Then
I was traveling over the Carnival days. A short trip. Ah, I thought, I’ll just pack a perfume, and that’s it. I don’t know if you know this, but when I perceive two scents in combination from my clothes, it just doesn’t work, unless I consciously mix fragrances with a pleasurable olfactory intention. So, I packed one perfume in my travel bag, and that’s it, no stress with the clothes smelling mixed up with scents........
And then, on the third day, I could no longer smell my perfume, the one I brought along, the habituation effect had set in too much. I started to get annoyed; it would have been better to take two perfumes..... So at the next opportunity, off to the drugstore chain.....and search for a scent that isn’t already at home, one that isn’t too light in fragrance......
So, I quickly decided to buy what I had long been curious about, suspicious of, and wistfully eyeing with a colorful bouquet of old memories. Miss Fenjal Eau de Parfum has moved in with me.
The bottle resembles a deodorant and feels somewhat strange to me as a perfume in terms of handling. The spray is wider, finer, and if you hold your finger down longer, it sprays a correspondingly larger amount of perfume, unlike the pump spray bottles that a perfume usually has for me.
The scent initially smells slightly fresh on me, a bit scratchy. I suspect it’s the bergamot, but this scent is only perceivable for two minutes; afterwards, Miss Fenjal unfolds its fragrance. It smells warm and fresh, delicately sweet, and almost a bit heavy. I always suggest peach, but the fragrance component is probably not even included. It takes me back to the time when I lay in the bathtub, using my grandma’s good bath additive, and much to my grandma’s annoyance, I wasn’t stingy with her bath foam. It smells beautifully nostalgic on me; back then, I felt like a real young lady, a woman with this scent. I was proud to smell like my grandma. Today, I still like the scent. It doesn’t smell like any of my expensive perfumes; it remains more one-dimensional, flatter in scent, but it’s a fragrance I enjoy wearing, one that evokes many memories for me and lasts about 6 to 7 hours. I find that quite remarkable for this price segment. It doesn’t smell cheap to my taste, not unpleasantly intrusive, but harmoniously beautiful. My memories take me back again, to the bathtub........ Grandma calling, don’t take the whole bottle again......
I fear that Tosca and Nachelance..... will also move in with me sooner or later. So many memories are awakened; I’ve always had a special relationship with scents. Today, my fragrances smell complex, provocative, seductive.... back then ...... Fenjala bubble bath..... smelled simpler, more straightforward, ..... just different. I still find it nice to smell differently today.

Floral-powdery scent pleasure with a subtle woody finish. Clean, well-groomed, and charmingly nostalgic. Unfortunately, it’s just a rather short burst.

Available for 3.95, well, it has nothing to do with bath oil. A bit floral, powdery, unremarkable, horrible delivery form like a deodorant spray.

I had completely forgotten about this scent and found it today at the drugstore. I don't find it old-fashioned. Classic, gentle, and yet fresh.

Nice "I feel clean and well-groomed" scent. A bit too subtle for an EdP.

A scent that reminds me of bathing at Grandma's as a child, which I associate with nostalgia and boredom at the same time. That's it.

I tested the EDT and thought the scent would be the same, maybe with better longevity. Well, it just smells like cheap deodorant & hairspray...

A puzzle how everything came together to create something like this. My mother-in-law loved FENJALA, I had flight reflexes.

To me, it smells like cheap, quite stuffy deodorant spray. The Eau de Toilette is miles better in every way.
