Beach bar instead of beach club / When the notes lie..
Fortunately, I was able to test this fragrance personally at a meet and greet with Kai at the Snud Concept Store in Vienna at the beginning of December 2024.

Briefly about the meet and greet: Kai was really nice and took time for everyone, which made me very happy. I talked to him about Beach Klub, Cherry X and Oud 31 and he took all feedback seriously and also gave background information on his fragrances.

All right, but now to Beach Klub.

The fragrance is very, very unique and I personally have never smelled anything like Beach Klub. In my opinion, the fragrance opens with very soft leather, a slight spiciness and - here it comes - the smell of an overripe banana. So much so, in fact, that it wasn't just me who had this association, but several other visitors to the perfumery too. I am still very surprised that no banana is listed. Unfortunately, this overripe banana is precisely the "note" that makes this fragrance so unique, but also difficult to wear.

Over time, the fragrance develops in a woody-creamy direction - with the spice, leather and banana still in the background - making the drydown much more appealing to me than the opening.

Attention! Although I'm talking about banana here, it doesn't make the fragrance fruity. The note makes Beach Klub more of a sunscreen scent, I associate the perfume with a dark yellow, if that helps you.

Apple was not present for me throughout. Neither was animalic. Apart from leather, vanilla and perhaps oregano, I couldn't smell any individual fragrance notes. For me, Beach Klub is much more of a "whole" and not like Infusion Velours Eau de Parfum, for example, where I can recognize almost all the fragrance notes.

The fragrance is really strong and left an oily film on the back of my hand, just like Reflection 45. As with other perfumes with a high oil content, the fragrance is not very radiant, but lasts a long time, i.e. 10-12 hours.

Despite the summery name, "Beach Klub" is not something that evokes hot summer nights. For me, the best time would be September-April. So it's not a Mykonos-beach-club-champagne-flowing fragrance, but a scent that gives me vibes of a hidden beach bar on a small island somewhere in the Pacific at night.

I hope I was able to give you a little insight into the perfume and that you enjoyed the review.

P.S.: Many thanks to @Snud for the great event and of course to Kai for taking the time to come to Vienna.

Difficult...but good...
I didn't warm to the first two fragrances from KPP, even though they are quite high-quality. Oud 31 is simply too powerful for me; similar to a knuckle of pork with dumplings and sauerkraut or George Antheil's Ballet Mécanique. The Cherry X somehow passed me by at first, as it felt like every brand - in the last 2 years - was launching a cherry fragrance on the market and my interest in this stone fruit waned, antiproportionally to the number of releases. When I then tested "it" and said to the best wife of all: "Cherry"...she replied: "Well, at least it's not "scented trees" like the last cherry fragrance you tried." So...at least you/wife/diverse get what it says on the bottle.

Now Beach Klub. This name also immediately conjures up associations; and anyone expecting a Cocoloco dream with a straw in a bucket will rub their nose in amazement and look at the label again...but...there it is: "Beach Klub". But names are smoke and mirrors and besides, we don't know "which beach" (Carmen Geiss-speak) the namesake ended up on. The important thing is... what's in the bottle!
I came across a bottling in a roundabout way and am very grateful for it. Is it the best fragrance of this brand so far? I can't say objectively due to the above-mentioned limitations. But it is the fragrance that I like best so far. Why? Quite simply: it's unique! As I said, there are many oud and cherry fragrances. But I couldn't categorize this fragrance at first. Subjectively, I think of strolling through a lush weekly market. Different smells penetrate my nose from everywhere; sometimes it is spices, sometimes it smells slightly fruity and sometimes I perceive "meat". BK is difficult to describe and that's exactly what makes it so charming. And aren't we nerds always on the lookout for something new? The standard tasters who pop into Douglas once a year to save themselves the trouble of wrapping up for Christmas (otherwise it's socks or ties all over again) or who are looking for a fragrance for their sports bag won't be able to do anything with BK...and that's really not reprehensible. It's a niche! Niche should also be allowed to be different...
Lasts about 12 hours on me; sillage is a little more discreet...that's good.
Digression on the person Kai Porten:
I only had brief contact with him in the souk; he behaved perfectly there. Apart from that, I only know what we see online. And that's not enough for me (at least) to judge the person. I also separate the work from the artist anyway - in other situations in life.... please do the same...

Beach Club, a summer fairytale.
In gloomy Germany, I sniffed heavily,
of sun, beach and sea.
I longed for sand and club,
for a fragrance that can, not must.

Then something flew into my nose,
a misty scent, but not an embarrassment.
Kai Porten stands on clear glass,
the connoisseurs quietly wrinkle their noses.

But still, my heart! I sprayed gently,
and lo and behold, it was summer night! A smile crossed my face,
because dazzlers don't usually smell like that.

Apple! Fresh! A smoky hint,
then birch tar, who needs it.
Vanilla warm, but never too heavy -
a hint of vacation, just not empty.

And suddenly. Almost not recognized,
a fruit blows from the tropics.
A tropical breeze, barely perceptible, but there,
whispers softly: The banana, oh yes!

The base nestles velvety and light,
with a musky greeting to the summer night.
A sandalwood, quite beautiful and fine,
carries us into the evening light.

A summer scent, so bold and warm,
as summer days used to be.
The quay, it doesn't make it high,
it smells of beach, fire and summer weeks.

(Freely adapted, inspired by Heine)

Introduced in a perfumery. A very experienced saleswoman works there who has always introduced me to exciting fragrances. This time she showed me her new favorite fragrance: Beach Klub. I smiled. I tested it. I was thrilled! An unusual summer beach fragrance experience.
Only those who can change their mind have one.

Creamy mild campfire
About the new fragrance Kai Porten "Beach Club":

I was one of the pre-order customers because the fragrance made me really curious. The name Beach Club, tropical fruits, campfire, banana, Big Red chewing gum, etc. You've heard and read all that.

Now the fragrance has arrived and I've had time to test it extensively. I am firmly convinced that it is not enough, especially in the niche sector, to spray the fragrance on a tester and then evaluate it a few minutes later. You have to test a fragrance in different situations, temperatures and occasions to be able to form a good judgment. But now to the fragrance:

What you get here is niche. Insanely unique, I've never smelled anything like it before. After the first spray, I thought at first that it might be too strong for me, too harsh and edgy, too extreme. For a moment, the thought of "selling it on" popped into my head. But then after a few minutes, the fragrance develops into a true poem, so beautiful. So graceful.

It becomes mild, I start to dream. If the fragrance were a song, it would give me goosebumps. I've only ever had that with Alexandria 2 by Xerjoff. Campfire vibes come to mind, but not the burning in the eye, not the harsh smoke, but the beautiful mildness, plus an undertone of vanilla and bananas. Really beautiful.

Longevity is great, not like an Oud31 but on clothes it is still very noticeable for a few days. The birch tar does its job.

I have to say I'm a big fan of campfires, they give me a sense of security and warmth and I feel the same with this fragrance. I now wear the fragrance just to feel good. But make up your own mind and give the fragrance time to develop. It's worth it.

A very successful fragrance for me. Half a point deduction because the beginning is a bit difficult and I can imagine that for many users there are few situations to wear such a fragrance. For me personally a brilliant release.
