Don't expect complex Oud scent, this is totally the same style than Guerlain's Oud Nude
After my initial disappointment I can make the better review of this scent. I forget all my expectations and I'm able to see the beauty of this scent.

They have made a note list which looks absolutely stunning and tempting. You can find there may trending notes like Cherry, Raspberry, Almond and Nutmeg like of course Cognac and Oud as well. They are tempting here, that is not any problem but the whole blend is just absolutely nothing which people are thinking it would be.

Sad to say but the initial opening is terrible and very dry and it made me scrub the scent of many times before writing a statement and now this one. How the opening should be, starts after 5-10 minutes after spraying the scent. Cherry and Raspberry are detectable like cognac as well but the latter one disappears very quickly which is a good thing here - that note is not "delicious", realistic boozy note. It's more like the dusty scent of the cognac barrel. Cherry and raspberry are beautifully made. The problem again are the expectations. I'm waiting the different stages of the scent. I'm waiting that the scent develops how the complex scent would do. Of course I'm waiting a lot of Cherry as well because of the name and my initial opinion was like "boring Cherry" because in the end, this is not a Cherry scent even if it's lurking in the background .

I was waiting a lot from this scent after Oud 31 and therefore I was thinking this scent would be complex and challenging, in a good way. On the other hand I could think that all the notes are blended so well that it's not easy (or it's impossible) to smell them separately. But it's not the case here. I mean it is well blended but it seems that many notes are really missing totally.

The scent itself smells to me like the mix of Raspberry, Bitter Almond, Nutmeg, Rose, Musk, Vanilla, Sandalwood and a very little hint of Oud which is definitely a sophisticated Western style Oud. And I think that many who have been trying Cherry X or who are interested in that are not the people who are familiar with Guerlain's L'Art et la Matiere Collection. So guess what? Those notes are the ones which you can find in Oud Nude . The huge surprise is that Cherry X share so much with Oud Nude which is utterly sophisticated, classy, subtle and everything which people don't expect from Cherry X . This scent is like a sibling of Oud Nude. Delicious soft, creamy blend which works best on a naked skin under a luxurious cashmere cardigan. In the dry down it start to go into a little bit different direction and that deliciousness start to fade away and Cherry is stepping back to the stage but it's darker now. The base start to be more resinous as well.

So the scent is not a bad one but the target group is totally wrong. They are waiting Oud scent not this kind of linear, subtle and sensual scent which stays quite close to the skin. The scent gets bad ratings because totally wrong people are trying this scent. So if i would rate this based on my expectations I would give low scores but if I rate it without thinking the brand, the name and my expectations I would give higher scores. Which way would be best for people who are curious about Cherry X? I think there is not a right answer. I just hope that the right people find this scent, those ones for example who didn't like Oud 31 at all.

As a conclusion I want to say that this scent is very well made and blended. It's just something totally different than you are searching.

Thank you for reading, I hope you liked my review and it was helpful.

Are you going to support an influencer?!
So, what is it about?
Cherry X is Cherry scent - duh. Fruity almondy cherry at the top, that stays quite long, unlike other cherry scents where the cherry note is gone after 5 minutes.
After the cherry opening, an aromatic spicy vibe shines though - Saffron. Elegant, round, just beautiful.

There are way more spices in this as well, making it more aromatic-spicy than you would think - but nothing dominant. For me, the scent also has a good portion of leather - even though not listed, I can pick up some leather jacket vibes

Also, very prominent: a boozy alcoholic note - dark, rich, warm, embedding the fragile notes of cherry

The base has a lot of supporting scents: vanilla, musk and rose - creating a slightly sweet bed for the other notes to sleep in

And yes, this has Oud listed - is it a Cherry-Oud scent? Absolutely not - Oud is not detectable apart from a very slightly woody subnote. But it's definitely not Oud 31 + Cherry

I enjoy this scent very much - lovely fruity dark boozy cherry. Not too niche, not difficult to pull off - great release overall

The only criticism I have is the performance - while longevity is totally okay, sillage on my skin is not too great. After 2-3h it's really not projecting much. Hence, I tend to over spray this bad boy

One last bit:
This is a fragrance from a content creator. Yes, the scent itself is legit and a worth trying even without Kai's name - but always bare in mind that purchasing these kind of releases supports the content creator directly

Why am I even still here...?
When I started with Parfumo in 2018, my nose was still very inexperienced; I initially only owned 3 designer fragrances and spending "so much money" on a perfume felt more than a little suspicious to me. Thank goodness I was lovingly guided here, got to know new facets, met amazing people, learned to determine my likes and dislikes, and then tested and tested and tested. I bought and sold again, participated in sharings, and even hosted a few myself. All of this is the reason for this perhaps somewhat provocative title. Because...

Let's be honest now, very, very honestly, hand on heart: Are we in kindergarten here?

Are we a community of fragrance lovers or trolls?
Can't we just evaluate fragrances fairly, appreciate the art and work of the perfumers, instead of expressing our personal resentments in the form of a few hasty clicks without ever having smelled the perfume? Aren't we better than that?

I lose faith when some people aren't even able to separate the artist from the work here. This is not Twitter; no one has to evaluate how much they love the directors of individual brands and write flashy statements.

Back to the fragrance:

Cherry X starts with a truly beautiful cherry-marzipan note and cognac; my first associations were actually chocolate-covered cherries or cherry liqueur. Soon, a certain darkness joins in, which is hard to define, that takes away the squeaky, very sticky sweetness and makes the fragrance much rounder.
This remains throughout the entire fragrance journey, whereas I lose this fruity cherry after a few hours. It gives way to a somewhat vanillic sweet woody note in the drydown; I guess that's the sandalwood that has enveloped me for a long time and was personally my girlfriend's favorite part of the fragrance.

I don't get many comments from her anymore because I wear something different every day, but she has praised the drydown of Cherry X, which is why I will probably treat myself to a bottle sooner or later.

The fragrance projects very well in the first 2-2.5 hours and leaves a nice, not too overpowering sillage behind; after hour 4 or 5, it becomes closer to the skin, I think about elbow length, a pretty perfect cuddle scent in my eyes. After 9 hours, I have to make an effort to still smell something from the base, but one should not take all values too seriously; I have pretty bad skin for fragrances.

In the end, the price, yes, is a shocker, not necessarily like Oud 31 but still steep; on the other hand, you get something for your money here, and other houses offer less for more *cough cough Tom Ford cough*. Whether it's worth it to you should be tested and decided by each person themselves; basically, all fragrances are overpriced when measured against the margins.

I personally don't want to whiteknight Kai Porten; I've only caught the controversy on the sidelines, but I also recognize the typical gatekeeping that always comes into play when people elevate a hobby to their entire personality and condemn influencers for the fact that we live in a system that has produced influencers. I have no idea how the guy is privately; I don't care at all; I'm evaluating the product here.

Long story short:

Fragrance = I like it
Gatekeeping = silly
Brand = has potential

Cherry Popping
Cherry is not just cherry! Everyone knows that who has ever munched their way through an old orchard filled with various old cherry varieties as a child. A school friend used to take me to his grandparents' farm in southern Holledau (for non-locals: Hallertau), where they even had several varieties of white and yellow cherries. A dream! Today, there’s a new housing development with row houses. The dream is gone.

Somewhat hunched and lost, it stands there among all the other bottles in the perfumery. A small square with golden liquid and a massive gold plaque and an even more massive golden metal button. Not too big, but still confident for a second-born. I like that. Radiant red on a golden plaque. Just like the bright red box with a lively golden print, which is hardly bigger than the bottle itself and not, as is now commonly found, the size of a shoe box for winter boots. Please, Kai, stick to this size.

I do like cherry. Be it in schnapps, jam, sorbet, chewing gum, or crumb cake. It tastes different everywhere. Additionally, I spent a few years in my childhood in the USA, where I got to taste all sorts of sweet stuff with what are surely now banned flavoring agents. Since then, I have been searching for those lost childhood memories, but I never really find them.

With "Cherry X," I have a bit of a flashback. A damn delicious cherry. Not quite natural, but also not completely synthetic. Nothing like what you’d avoid today, such as Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper Cherry or the old Hubba Bubba Cherry. Also not a natural black cherry, sour cherry, or any of the other varieties. More like an overly sweet Italian Amarena on ice cream or American maraschino in a cocktail. Nothing quite hits the mark for me, but it could be a wonderful blend of several. I’m in love! Soon, a sweet almond joins the fully fruity cherries. If you walk with open eyes through a Christmas market, you might discover a small stand with homemade marzipan: Skip the pistachio and walnut marzipan and try cherry marzipan! A dream! Just like here in this scent, almond and cherry create a beautiful accord, which is further perfected by a not too strict boozy note. There are probably a few more spices along with pepper, but they unfortunately can’t compete with the rose, which is quite dominant. The cherry sadly takes a bit of a back seat, while tonka/vanilla come forward with many other soft and sweet notes. There’s a lot going on, but I can’t really read much more from the pyramid before it becomes resinous and smoky for me. Always sweetly aromatic, blended. The last hints of cherry unfortunately fade away for me after just under three hours. I would have liked more. And the rest is unfortunately not quite what I primarily seek in a fragrance for myself.

"Cherry X" is a very multifaceted cherry scent, a delicious affair where you can discover new exciting facets depending on the time of day, weather, mood, etc. Even though I have written a lot about sweet and sugary, this scent evokes rather masculine connotations for me. On my wife, "Cherry X" came across much sweeter, more floral, and more vanilla-like, but less fruity. It also lasted on her for over 12 hours, while on me, it almost completely faded into the skin after just under 8 hours.

Anyone looking for a cherry scent should test this one without prejudice! A very well-made and multifaceted fragrance that doesn’t need to hide from any big name. On the contrary, "Cherry X" is likely to shake up the top ten cherry scents significantly.

Drunken Cherry
Well, there I was, deep in conflict with myself...
On one hand, I found and still find the brand owner rather unsympathetic, on the other hand, I am an absolute fan of cherry scents...

Well, I want to test the fragrance, not drink a beer with Kai
So I joined in on the sharing, and off we go.

After the first spray, the scent starts with the promised, really not so sweet cherry and almond, along with (for me personally TOO) much alcohol.
It smells like the very strong cherry liqueur that Grandma always indulged in at birthday parties
Unfortunately, the alcoholic note lingers on my skin well into the base, and that is what keeps us from becoming friends.
I find the cherry itself good, but it is too dominated by the alcohol for me. It's basically the Harald Juhnke of cherry scents. As it develops further, a cinnamon spiciness comes in, but still behind the alcohol.

Sillage and longevity are good, I get a solid 8 - 9 hours.

I must say, however, that I do not understand some of the reviews here. As mentioned at the beginning, I am really not a fan of the K.P., but if you rate such a craft-solid fragrance with 0.5 - 4, then that is not objective in my eyes. I find it unfortunate and undeserved.
Of course, when buying a full bottle, you also buy the brand, especially in those price dimensions.
You can still decide for yourself whether the person(s) behind the brand appeal to you or not and take that into account.
But the fragrance itself doesn't change.

Oud which is not even close to the quality of Oud 31 , dry, dark yet boring cherry, was waiting much of this.

Better than the Oud 31 but not outstanding. Sweet rum-soaked cherry with a slightly leathery base. Quite pleasant but that's about it

Cherry, tonka, and vanilla? Spectacular! Available only 250 times since Tom Ford. Not terrible, but not worth more than 50 euros.

Best cherry scent at the moment. No. Never. Velvety synthetic cherry aroma. And then this powdery musk almond... probably won't be a purchase.

WTF a 6.4 rating? Turn off the Kai hater mode. It does what it says, boozy cherry with very prominent tonka for me, well done!
