Don't expect complex Oud scent, this is totally the same style than Guerlain's Oud Nude
After my initial disappointment I can make the better review of this scent. I forget all my expectations and I'm able to see the beauty of this scent.

They have made a note list which looks absolutely stunning and tempting. You can find there may trending notes like Cherry, Raspberry, Almond and Nutmeg like of course Cognac and Oud as well. They are tempting here, that is not any problem but the whole blend is just absolutely nothing which people are thinking it would be.

Sad to say but the initial opening is terrible and very dry and it made me scrub the scent of many times before writing a statement and now this one. How the opening should be, starts after 5-10 minutes after spraying the scent. Cherry and Raspberry are detectable like cognac as well but the latter one disappears very quickly which is a good thing here - that note is not "delicious", realistic boozy note. It's more like the dusty scent of the cognac barrel. Cherry and raspberry are beautifully made. The problem again are the expectations. I'm waiting the different stages of the scent. I'm waiting that the scent develops how the complex scent would do. Of course I'm waiting a lot of Cherry as well because of the name and my initial opinion was like "boring Cherry" because in the end, this is not a Cherry scent even if it's lurking in the background .

I was waiting a lot from this scent after Oud 31 and therefore I was thinking this scent would be complex and challenging, in a good way. On the other hand I could think that all the notes are blended so well that it's not easy (or it's impossible) to smell them separately. But it's not the case here. I mean it is well blended but it seems that many notes are really missing totally.

The scent itself smells to me like the mix of Raspberry, Bitter Almond, Nutmeg, Rose, Musk, Vanilla, Sandalwood and a very little hint of Oud which is definitely a sophisticated Western style Oud. And I think that many who have been trying Cherry X or who are interested in that are not the people who are familiar with Guerlain's L'Art et la Matiere Collection. So guess what? Those notes are the ones which you can find in Oud Nude . The huge surprise is that Cherry X share so much with Oud Nude which is utterly sophisticated, classy, subtle and everything which people don't expect from Cherry X . This scent is like a sibling of Oud Nude. Delicious soft, creamy blend which works best on a naked skin under a luxurious cashmere cardigan. In the dry down it start to go into a little bit different direction and that deliciousness start to fade away and Cherry is stepping back to the stage but it's darker now. The base start to be more resinous as well.

So the scent is not a bad one but the target group is totally wrong. They are waiting Oud scent not this kind of linear, subtle and sensual scent which stays quite close to the skin. The scent gets bad ratings because totally wrong people are trying this scent. So if i would rate this based on my expectations I would give low scores but if I rate it without thinking the brand, the name and my expectations I would give higher scores. Which way would be best for people who are curious about Cherry X? I think there is not a right answer. I just hope that the right people find this scent, those ones for example who didn't like Oud 31 at all.

As a conclusion I want to say that this scent is very well made and blended. It's just something totally different than you are searching.

Are you going to support an influencer?!
So, what is it about?
Cherry X is Cherry scent - duh. Fruity almondy cherry at the top, that stays quite long, unlike other cherry scents where the cherry note is gone after 5 minutes.
After the cherry opening, an aromatic spicy vibe shines though - Saffron. Elegant, round, just beautiful.

There are way more spices in this as well, making it more aromatic-spicy than you would think - but nothing dominant. For me, the scent also has a good portion of leather - even though not listed, I can pick up some leather jacket vibes

Also, very prominent: a boozy alcoholic note - dark, rich, warm, embedding the fragile notes of cherry

The base has a lot of supporting scents: vanilla, musk and rose - creating a slightly sweet bed for the other notes to sleep in

And yes, this has Oud listed - is it a Cherry-Oud scent? Absolutely not - Oud is not detectable apart from a very slightly woody subnote. But it's definitely not Oud 31 + Cherry

I enjoy this scent very much - lovely fruity dark boozy cherry. Not too niche, not difficult to pull off - great release overall

The only criticism I have is the performance - while longevity is totally okay, sillage on my skin is not too great. After 2-3h it's really not projecting much. Hence, I tend to over spray this bad boy

One last bit:
This is a fragrance from a content creator. Yes, the scent itself is legit and a worth trying even without Kai's name - but always bare in mind that purchasing these kind of releases supports the content creator directly

Why am I still here...?
When I started Parfumo in 2018, my nose was still a very inexperienced one, I only owned 3 designers at the beginning and spending "that much money" on a perfume was more than a little suspect to me. Thank God I was lovingly taken by the hand here, got to know new facets, met great people, learned to determine my likes and dislikes and then to test and test and test. I bought and sold again, took part in sharings and hosted a few myself. All of this is the reason for this perhaps somewhat provocative title. Because...

Let's be honest, hand on heart: are we in kindergarten here?

Are we a community of fragrance lovers or trolls?
Can't we simply rate fragrances fairly, appreciate the art and work of the perfumers instead of expressing our personal resentment in the form of a few hasty clicks without ever having smelled the perfume? Aren't we better than that?

I fall from faith when some people here are not even able to separate the artist from the work. This isn't Twitter, nobody here has to rate how much they like the directors of individual brands and write snappy statements.

Back to the fragrance:

Cherry X starts with a really wonderful cherry marzipan note and cognac, my first associations were actually with schnapps pralines or cherry liqueur. This is quickly joined by a certain darkness, which cannot be defined more precisely, which takes away the squeaky, very sticky sweetness and makes the fragrance much rounder This remains throughout the entire fragrance, whereas I lose this fruity cherry after a few hours. It gives way to something vanilla sweet and woody in the drydown, which I guess is the sandalwood that enveloped me for a long time and was my girlfriend's personal favorite part of the fragrance.

I don't get many comments from her anymore because I wear something every day, but she praised the drydown of Cherry X very highly, which is why I will probably treat myself to a bottle sooner or later.

The fragrance projects very well in the first 2-2 1/2 hours and has a nice, not too penetrating sillage, from hour 4 or 5 it gets closer to the skin, I think at elbow length, a pretty perfect cuddly fragrance in my eyes. After 9 hours I have to make an effort to still smell something of the base, but don't take all the values too seriously, I have pretty bad skin for fragrances.

Finally, the price, yes it is a breaker, not necessarily like Oud 31 but still salty, on the other hand you get something for your money here and other houses offer less for more *cough cough Tom Ford cough*. Everyone should test and decide for themselves whether it is worth it, basically all fragrances are overpriced compared to the margins.

I personally don't want to whitewash Kai Porten here, I've only ever noticed the controversy from the sidelines, but I recognize the typical gatekeeping that always comes to the fore when people stylize a hobby into their complete personality and condemn influencers for the fact that we live in a system that has produced influencers. I don't know what the guy is like in his private life, I don't give a damn, I'm judging the product here.

Long story short:

Scent= I like
Gatekeeping= silly
Brand = can do something

Cherry popping
Not all cherries are the same! Anyone who was able to forage through an old orchard with dozens of old cherry varieties as a child knows this. A school friend used to take me to his grandparents' farm in the southern Holledau (for Saupreissn: Hallertau), where they even had several varieties of white and yellow cherries. A dream! Today there is a new development area with terraced houses. The dream is over.

Somewhat crouched and lost, it stands there among all the other bottles in the perfumery. A small square with golden liquid and a solid gold plaque and an even more solid gold metal button. Not too big, but still self-confident for the second-born. I like that kind of thing. Bright red on a golden badge. Just like the bright red box with bold, golden print, which is barely bigger than the bottle itself and not, as is now the case everywhere, the size of a shoe box for winter boots. Please, Kai, stick to this size.

I like cherries. Whether it's in schnapps, jam, sorbet, chewing gum or crumble cake. It tastes different everywhere. What's more, I spent a few years in the USA when I was a child and was exposed to all kinds of sweet stuff with flavorings that are now certainly banned. I've been looking for those lost childhood memories ever since, but I never really find them.

I have a flashback with "Cherry X". A damn tasty cherry. Not really natural, but not completely synthetic either. Not the kind of thing you tend to avoid today, like Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper Cherry or the old Hubba Bubba cherry. Not even natural black cherries, sour cherries, sour cherries, morello cherries, red May hearts, black cherries, late Amarelle or Maraska. Rather oversweet like an Italian Amarena on ice cream or American Maraschino in a cocktail. Nothing quite hits the spot for me, but it could be a wonderful blend of several. I am in love! The full-fruity cherries are soon joined by an equally sweet almond. If you walk through a Christmas market with your eyes wide open, you might spot a small stall selling homemade marzipan: leave pistachio and walnut marzipan behind and try cherry marzipan! What a dream! In this fragrance, almond and cherry form a wonderful accord that is complemented by a not-too-strict boozy note. There are probably a few more spices in addition to pepper, but unfortunately they can't compete with the rose, which pushes powerfully. Unfortunately, the cherry takes a bit of a back seat, while tonka/vanilla and many other soft and sweet notes also come to the fore. There's a lot going on, but I can't really get much more out of the pyramid before it becomes resinous and smoky for me. Always sweetly aromatic and blended. Unfortunately, the last hints of cherry disappear after just under three hours. I would have liked more. And the rest is unfortunately not quite what I am primarily looking for in a fragrance.

"Cherry X" is a very multi-layered cherry fragrance, a delicious affair in which you can always discover new exciting facets depending on the day, weather, mood, etc. Even though I have often written about sweet and sugary scents, this fragrance has more masculine connotations for me. On my wife, "Cherry X" came across as much sweeter, more floral, more vanilla, but less fruity. It also easily lasted over 12 hours on her, whereas on me it almost completely seeped into my skin after just under 8 hours.

If you are looking for a cherry fragrance, you should try it out without prejudice! A very well-made and multi-layered fragrance that doesn't need to hide from any big names. On the contrary, "Cherry X" is likely to shake up the top ten cherry fragrances at the moment.

Amarena... no rather "Ama-leather-cherry"
I would like to share my impressions of Cherry X after testing it for 2 days now.

The fragrance description of Kai Porten is "Dark, mysterious, seductive and spicy-oriental in the course" and yes, this is 100% true.

The beginning starts directly with a beautiful cherry-almond combination that is by no means too sweet. During my first test, I admittedly had associations with a rather synthetic hubba bubba note, but I couldn't understand this association at all the second time around and found the cherry to be very successful.

As the fragrance progresses, it becomes darker and spicier. I would classify the spice as cinnamon/incense. Furthermore, there is a dark, not silky but still soft wood-leather combination that seems slightly balsamic and resinous and appears dry with the increasing spiciness. At the same time, the fragrance always retains a mild basic sweetness but also has something pungent and sour for me.

All in all, the fragrance is very complex and fulfills its promise of a long-lasting cherry. For me, however, it seems too dense and tightly woven and therefore rather pompous.

Unfortunately, Kai Porten doesn't hit my mark.

Admittedly, I had pre-ordered the fragrance after Oud 31 didn't meet my taste either, but it earned my appreciation.
With Cherry X, I had hoped for something more along the lines of Lost Cherry Eau de Parfum, fruity and gourmand. Instead, an oriental spice comes around the corner here, which takes up the cherry theme for itself.
When Kai Porten says "more pleasing", he certainly doesn't mean "simple" or "mainstream". And I think that's exactly what fans of dark oriental and spicy fragrances will really like.

A word about the bottle and packaging. I think it's very successful.
Admittedly, the packaging is as small as it could be, almost unusually discreet compared to the opulence usually offered by the well-known niche houses. Is it all just cost-cutting? ... Yes, perhaps ... Nevertheless, everything looks high-quality, with attention to detail. The bottle itself is a dainty cube with pleasantly rounded edges that feels great in the hand. High-quality metal plaque and a heavy, well-fitting lid with engraved logo. The "juice" has a beautiful intense coloration, almost amber in color.
Next to many other bottles on the shelf, the Cherry X looks downright tiny, and somehow that makes it stand out again.

Oud which is not even close to the quality of Oud 31 , dry, dark yet boring cherry, was waiting much of this.

Better than the Oud 31 but not outstanding. Sweet rum-soaked cherry with a slightly leathery base. Quite pleasant but that's about it
