The better Layton
...and I'm completely serious. What MAD has brought out in recent years is pure madness. After my song of praise for Queen Forza from Alexandria, now, after thorough long-term testing, comes the King - Trono .
The opening welcomes us with a typical PdM apple - wrapped in a very subtle floral freshness. This is joined by tangerine, a natural vanilla scent and light woody notes. What quickly becomes clear until the drydown: the fragrance is not linear, but unfolds slowly. It really deepens from minute to minute. It is important to mention that there is hardly a trace of synthetics here.
The often-mentioned marginal differences to Layton in the drydown are my real personal highlight: the strongly present cake/vanilla note that is familiar from Layton is present in Trono, but not quite as sweet. In the drydown of Trono, the apple is clearly more present and the fragrance is somewhat more floral overall. However, these differences are really marginal. Still big enough for me to confidently ignore my magical 20° weather limit for this fragrance DNA.
The sillage is and remains strong throughout. Significantly stronger than the original, which is why over-spraying can quickly become critical here - but the wallet is happy, because the durability is incredibly good. 9-10 hours are usually possible for me - on bad days it is "only" 8 hours. Not surprising, as this is an extrait de parfum. This fragrance lasts almost a week, especially on clothing.
The bottle takes a little getting used to, but in my opinion it's not as hideous as some people make it out to be. At least not quite as bad as the Détour Noir. However, for a fragrance in the low to medium price range, I don't expect a feast for the eyes, as we know it from the niche market.
The price is always an issue with MAD. In Turkey I paid €30, for the second bottle (yes, the stuff is addictive) I put €55 on the table in a local MAD store. Either way, it's a 10/10 considering what you get here for the price.
To my nose, the Trono is 98.9% of the Layton. The only difference is the drydown described above, which is a plus point for me. Both the fragrance and the H/S are in no way inferior to the niche model. The mere fact that you pay (in the best case "only") three times as much for the Layton makes the Trono the king for me.
