Fascinating floral/woody/resinous mix, opulent and well-crafted
Sampling other new release from Motif Olfactif’s Travel series (inspired by Hawaii), Huaka’I, an exotic, spicy, floral mix highlighted by orris, woods/resins, and flowers. It’s dense, complex, and opulent, instantly a sort of year-round serious perfume, inspired by internal conversations and reflections on a hike.
It feels mostly like a blend of orris, frangipani/champaca, and an arrangement of ouds, patchouli, and woods (cypress, fir). It’s not especially animalic/barnyard or medicinal, specifically, but there is some oud in play that’s significant and very well incorporated.
Whereas Makai is the more straightforward coastal fruity, musky aquatic, Huaka’I seems to get to the heart of things, more so. It has an earthy and frankly darker side to it.
I regard it as slightly feminine but overall a multifaceted impression, an intricately woven fabric that really needs to be sampled to be understood but as with Makai (and every other entry from this house to date), I’d recommend trying it out.
Like Makai, Huaka’i is in extrait concentration but is priced a bit higher, at $170 for 50ml, fitting as it’s a bit stronger.
