The hint is in the name: Luxor's oud doesn't fear the sun
Luxor is a 10-out-of-10 composition by the omnipresent Chris Maurice that falls within the Oriental Spicy genre. This fragrance, inspired by ancient Egyptian grandeur, is distinctly non-mainstream, and might turn some noses away... but definitely not mine.

The opening is a complex array of sharp cinnamon, cardamom and leather. This swiftly matures into the heart, featuring a blend of rich, dark myrrh resins, smoky incense, and a robust pipe tobacco, grounded by dry atlas cedar.

Luxor's foundation is a combo of woody thai oud and jammy-sweet cambodian oud. Together, they create nuanced animalic base.

Performance is solid: Luxor consistently delivers over eight hours of longevity on skin. Its structure, which in my experience gains a "better push" in warmer conditions, makes it a rare, versatile oud that works well beyond typical cold-weather use.

In my opinion, Luxor is one of Xerjoff's best and you should sample it if you are looking for a mature, complex fragrance that brings tobacco and oud(a) together in a unique way.

Fruity oud dipped in honey
Luxor is my first bottle from Xerjoff and a blind buy at that. It was recommended to me by Smirky so I looked at the notes, realized it should be my "dream perfume" and decided to commit. Luckily for me, this was one of the rare examples where listening to a suggestion and trusting the note pyramid actually worked out!

It has two types of oud - if you aren't too familiar with fragrances containing oud essence, keep in mind it has a barnyardy twist. However, the smell isn't unpleasant or overbearing. Upon spraying, I'm greeted by animalic fruitiness, dusty cinnamon sweetness and punchy cardamom. For the first 30 minutes, the scent is spicy, animalic, fruity and woody.

The magic starts happening once Luxor opens up and its heart notes start to shine. Oud becomes less barnyardy and its woody quality is underlined by the more dry Atlas cedar. Combined with resinous myrrh and fading sweetness of cinnamon, the overall feeling is more hay-like and honey-sweet. But wait, there's more!

Simultaneously, I'm engulfed in a smoky cloud of frankincense and tobacco. At this point, it's easy to see the parallels to Egyptian culture. I can associate an Egyptian pharaoh with ingredients such as oud, cinnamon, myrrh, incense and tobacco. After an hour, the scent remains slightly animalic and fruity, but it's also smoky and sweet.

Performance is solid - I get about 8 hours of longevity on skin, which is sufficient given the myriad of stages it goes through. Xerjoff's presentation is great and the fact that it's under the radar allows you to get it for half the retail price at discounters. It's blind buy worthy if you like myrrh and oud, otherwise make sure to sample first.

Fantastically blended spiced oud and tobacco
I think this fragrance must sit in a weird nook to receive such low ratings. It seems to me that it is too oudy and animalic for the folks who are looking for spicy/sweet scents like Carlisle or "XJ 1861 Naxos | XerJoff" and too toned-down and not aggressive enough for the oud lovers who prefer stuff like Musk Aoud or Opus XIII - Silver Oud. But for me, it sits in the perfect spot between those two. Powerful oud/nagarmotha based scents tend to have a difficult opening that you have to get through to enjoy a beautiful drydown. Luxor solves this by placing a soft, sweet cinnamon note in the top end, blocking the sharp resins from coming through until the drydown. The tobacco note hangs around from beginning to end, providing interplay between the sweet opening and the dry closing, a perfect modifier/heart note. Unfortunate that this one does not get more love because it is stunning.

P.S. Value for money is also rated extremely low. Yes, the retail price is over €300 but I'm easily finding it on discounters for under 150 USD. Great value at that price.

Sublime scent, disappointing performance
Oh Luxor what are you doing to me. You’re such a special scent, but why do you leave me so early?

You greet me with the richest smell of dried fruit, tobacco, frankincense and myhrr. Luring me in, laying me on a bed of high quality rooibos tea (at least that’s how I perceive it). Occasionally whiffs of churchy frankincense keep reminding me of what I’m wearing today. Buy yet a few hours later you’re gone, sigh…

Something to do with skin chemistry maybe, or reformations? I really don’t get anything animalic or fecal from this.

I’ve used up an entire sample, enjoying every drop of it. But this is such a toughy for me. Luxor is a mind bogglingly great scent, the bottle is incredible. But the performance just isn’t there for me to justify a full bottle.

Luxurious scent from Luxor
Luxor starts out with a pretty challenging opening. There is definitely a subtle barnyard vibe at the beginning, but not overwhelming. Once it settles though, it becomes an excellent scent of blended tobacco, incense and oud, supported by the other notes which are less obvious and a subtle sweetness that takes the edge off but still keeps it very masculine. Suggest applying about 30 minutes before heading out.

Performance is nuclear. Leaves a good trail, projects and excellent longevity. Strikes me good any time of the year for formal events with casual events suited better in fall, winter or spring.

While I like it a lot, I'm adding this to my undecided list. Want to sample all of the Xerjoff's Oud Stars Collection first. Might find others that are even better.

UPDATE: Have a bottle of Luxor arriving in the next few days. It's the best out of the Oud Stars Collection.

One of Xerjoff's + Maurice's best. Unique composition blending resins, incense, pipe tobacco and dry cedar. Much better push in warm weather

Very churchy frankincense, made digestible by cinnamon and a very pleasant dryness of tobacco and oud. I get tea as well.

Typical oriental perfume: dry spiced, full of wood and something ja-ba-da-dooo

This one won't stop changing on my skin! Sweet, creamy, spicy smoke - dissipates, revealing leathery incense, cinnamon, cardamom and... tea?

Sweet, fruity oud turns turns into a welcoming honeyed, tobacco accompanied tea. Unfortunately has mediocre performance.

Daring yet delightful. Spicy, dusty, fruity oud that continues to evolve throughout the wearing. Xerjoff has an underappreciated winner here

Best oud for me. Got two bottles! This is pure wood, myrrh, smokey and oudey. No vanilla or other secondary stuff. Definitely some tobacco too!

A slightly smoky, yet complex oriental spicy-leathery Winter fragrance, balanced by a gentle dry earthy-woody base. Male-oriented.

Just got a bottle, I don't understand the low rating here. First sniff: 2012 Herod with Amber, Spices and Oud. Fantastic winter fragrance!

Oh–oh my, what lovely myrrh and Oud you have! What complexity you exhibit! Tobacco glides on the air as cardamom starts the show.
