An Inverted Floral Chypre
Keiko Mecheri IRIS POURPRE is a sort of inverted chypre perfume which begins dark and a bit dirty and slowly transforms into a spare, pristine iris solifore as innocent as a newborn child. The evolution of this composition reminds me of a corrupt person who suddenly has an awakening and decides to begin his life all over again, leaving all of his dingy past behind. Old habits die hard, but slowly, over time, he transforms into a new person bearing scant resemblance to the person who did what he once did.

I'm intrigued by the structure of this fragrance, how what would usually be basenotes appear as topnotes and somehow the clean iris prevails in the end. I do find the drydown slightly powdery, but mostly clean. IRIS POURPRE has good staying power and medium sillage, and its unique structure sets it apart from other niche-quality iris perfumes.

The curtain rises, the show begins!
"Iris Pourpre" is my perfume for special occasions. As a child, I often got to go to the theater with my parents and saw many beautiful opera evenings and ballet performances. And it is precisely on such occasions that I wear Iris Pourpre today - my "cultural scent." That’s why I tend to wear it more in the winter months.

It develops for me as a classic Chypre, slightly "old-fashioned" with a delicate iris note. It faintly reminds me of "Bottega Veneta," but in my opinion, it has more elegance, weight, and expressiveness.

If I ever have the opportunity to hear the Milan Scala or the New Year's concert in Vienna, Iris Pourpre will definitely accompany me.

Silky Powder
In the past, it was almost a given that the body care lines of major perfumes also included body powders. Not only do I long for that time, but some customers would still reach for such a luxury item today. Wrapping oneself in a delicate silky cloud after a bath is simply dreamy. No body lotion can provide that sensual feeling.

Iris Pourpre reminds me exactly of this situation. Powdery, yes, but the fine iris note that I love so much reminds me more of Infusion by Prada than of Hiris. The "vegetal" note of the Hermes fragrance is completely absent here, giving the perfume a completely different character. Thank goodness, this dusty note found in other powder fragrances, which reminds one of theater dressing rooms, is also entirely missing. No, Iris Pourpre is exceptionally clean and silky. A hint of Ylang adds a floral elegance as a finishing touch, and thus the fragrance has a pronounced aura of well-being for me.

To return to the comparison with other iris fragrances: Infusion is significantly more glamorous and louder, Hiris is much stronger, greener, and fuller. In my opinion, Iris Pourpre is the most subtle and intimate scent of the three.

Escape into Nowhere
Iris Pourpre is a wonderful fragrance, as predicted.
Sweet, floral, powdery, a real scent treat that makes you immediately say: 'I have to have this'.

But not so fast, first read on.*gg*

At first, I noticed the strong similarity of the top note to Hermes Hiris.
Today I tested both together.

They are indeed very similar, but Hiris is a bit more complex, of course, as it has more components.

The major drawback of Iris Pourpre is its volatility. In no time, you can only smell it if you get your nose right on it, and this scent note somehow seems boring now.
In contrast, Hiris lasts much longer and is more balanced in the base.

Hard to describe, somewhat blurry. Dry powderiness, almost herbal, yet sweet-floral, but not girlish, rather elegant.

My elegant evening scent: a memory of a makeup bag lined with dark violet velvet and dark-blooded powder crumbs. Economical.

"Unpowdered" iris, slightly bitter opening, floral-creamy as it develops. For me, a cozy evening scent, but it can be a bit much at times.

The first seconds are sweet-floral,
then sharp-fruity notes,
synthetic neroli note with a bit of iris...
Not really my thing... :(

A sharp, slightly fruity note with a Neroli base that becomes creamier and softer over time. The iris stays subtly in the background.
