Confusing resins

Ambergris with cloves have me confused, I could swear I know this smell from somewhere but I cannot put my finger on it... Lots of labdanum, musk, and vanilla, somehow. Unexpected from Pineward. Less forest-y than I would expect from this brand. Do I like it? I have no idea :D I am mostly confused by this scent, but it's a good sign. Means I get to explore it and wear some more and see where it takes me. I like scents that make me think. Nice warmth from Dragon's blood, too, I always love this.

Another Niche-y Niche from Pineward

This smells very niche; not as in “this is elite and better than any smell” kinda way. It’s niche in a this is far from mass-appealing kinda way.

Velvetine is spicy, earthy and built for days below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I get the clove and ambergris right at the top. I also get a wet & decomposing leaves accord that I love. I also get the grassy vetiver. The labdanum and vanilla help sweeten this forests, autumnal scent; to be clear, that does not make this a sweet scent by any stretch. The fir note reinforces a sense of forest as an earthy, green note. The dragon’s blood adds a non-gourmand sweetness & density to Velvetine.

To use frangrancetok speak, this will not get you “chased down the street,” nor will it be “a major compliment getter.” Velvetine, and Pineward on the whole, ought be sampled rather than blind bought. The brand is too expensive to play roulette with your wallet (or at least my wallet).

I enjoy this but don’t feel the need to upgrade. I’ll just likely complete my 2ml sample before moving on.
