Great resinous spicy meets semi-sweet gourmand - hay, lavender honey
Sampling Pineward Perfumes Hayloft, a late 2022 release and another hay-led scent featuring gourmand elements (like Hayride, in that respect) while not being fully gourmand, with standout notes of hay, lavender honey, toasted almond, and dusty wheat. It has the spicy floral quality of lavender honey, with just enough sweetness in the mix of honey and nutty notes to counteract the spiciness and animalic quality of the hay, very much a concoction where the honey and hay tell much of the story, with the sweet and spicy in balance.

Like Hayride, Hayloft is a superlative performer, among the best of the house, which generally has high-performing, high-concentration perfumes. Hayloft’s concentration is 31%, essentially extrait de parfum, and it projects for a good but continues to last a while. Like the rest of the line, Hayloft is priced at $205/135/80 for 57/37/17ml.

This is right up there with among my favorites of the line. I’m loving how perfumer/owner Nicholas Nilsson is exploring different areas, beyond the pine/pine resin-focused scents. The catalogue is becoming increasingly rich.

a farmland masterpiece
This opens with a sweet, airy, vanilla like oat scent. They’re powdery and sweet grains, and a dusty wheat smell follows. It smells like sacks of grains sprinkled with sugar, the breeze blowing their aroma past. This is also very nutty, you get very prominent toasted almond, and it’s specifically toasted, it’s got a warmth to it. The hazelnut is a dryer nutty accord but it works. The honey in this is fresh since it’s a lavender one, and this honey feels like a syrup. It’s not warm and heavy or rich, it’s light, sweet, and cooled. The grass and hay keep this from being too overpowering, or too sweet, it grounds it with a fresh earthiness. This is a barn loft filled with sacks of nuts, oats, and hay, with sweet jars of honey on shelves above, and grass billowing in the wind outside.

Old Barn Converted to Bakery
I'm not typically a fan of a hay note or gourmands in general, but wow, I absolutely love Hayloft!

Something in the first minute or so reminds me of coconut, then I get a medley of sweet hay, nuts, and grasses. I have a friend whose parents live on a farm, and they have a little barn down by the road where they sell preserves and baked goods. This is exactly like the back rooms of that barn. It smells distinctly of bales of hay and dusty rafters littered with straw, mixed with the sweet aroma of something baking in the kiln.

Over the next few hours, the focus shifts to vanilla and honey. I'm shocked there's no vanilla listed in the notes because it's so prominent to my nose (maybe it's the oat note?). Overall, it's rich and spicy, sweet but not cloying. The drydown reminds me of oatmeal cookies. I love how much this evolves from start to finish - I almost wouldn't recognize it as the same scent after 5 minutes versus 2 hours. Also, although this does smell like a barn, I don't get any animalic notes at any point.

This is such a cool and unique scent, but it's also super wearable (especially once gourmand notes start to dominate over the grasses). Leans feminine, and feels mostly like a Fall scent to me. One of my favourites from Pineward!

Bucolic nostalgia
A midday nap in a barn loft. Hay bales toasted by sunrays peeking through the slats. The knees of your pants stained with sweet dry grasses. Lavender and honey sing gentle lullabies to the wind. Soon you’ll need to get up and finish your chores, but the hay is so soft and warm. One day you’ll look back on this memory as if it were a dream.

All Bakery and No Hay
This is all gourmand and no hay. I was hoping for an aromatic grass with a natural sweetness but instead I got a heavy sugary scent that was more reminiscent of a bakery than a hayloft. This isn't a bad fragrance, its just misleading to me. If you want to smell like the bakery from Kiki's Delivery Service, sweet buns covered in frosting and filled with hazelnut spread, then this is your fragrance. But if you were hoping to smell like The Great Plains and Grasslands of North America, you will be disappointed.

The fragrance does last all day, it was over 7 hours on my skin. It also has fairly strong projection, people could smell it from a distance. There are several size and prices available starting at 17ml for $80, then 37ml for $135, and 57ml for $205.

I fear my other "fall & winter" scents may be neglected now that this is in my collection.

This is the hay scent I wanted to get out of Shire. Cozy with a little sweetness, but it's the nuttiness that makes it special.

Seems to represent the newer Pineward line: sweet, gourmand, yet partly natural: nut, honey, floral, spicy; just average.
