A clone that actually is one..
How often do I read/hear about fragrances: "It smells like fragrance X and only costs so much!"
To be honest, I can't listen to that anymore. But with Corium you have to say: yes, its role model is clearly recognizable. Anyone who has the Stronger With You Leather knows what I mean - and I have it too. I found the idea of being able to compare the two quite exciting and was accordingly curious - after all, I love the SWY Leather.
The opening of Corium is pretty much exactly the same. It starts off beautifully leathery and sweet in the first hour and wears beautifully. You can tell that Rayhaan is offering something of quality here. However, as is often the case, it loses a little of its complexity from the second hour onwards. The SWY Leather is a beast, expressing itself over eight hours through strong performance and character. The Corium clearly lacks that. I tend to apply a lot, which is what I did with this one, but after about 4 hours I noticed that it loses its leather. At most, it remains latently leathery and then has a beautifully vanilla-like, ambery base. It's not particularly loud, it lacks a bit of oomph, but at the end of the day, you don't always need that.
Corium is a beautifully crafted fragrance that comes in a great bottle and is frighteningly similar to the original at first. The crux is the development and depth - that was to be expected. With a longevity of 6-8 hours, a solid sillage (only subtle from hour three) and the lack of exclusivity, it's definitely worth a look and has a raison d'être. If I don't always want to reach for the expensive SWY, I see it as a very fair and good alternative.
