A clone that actually is one…
How often do I read/hear about fragrances: “It smells like scent X and costs only this much!”
Honestly, I can't hear that anymore. However, with Corium, it must be said: yes, its inspiration is clearly recognizable. Anyone who has Stronger With You Leather knows what I mean - and I have that one too. I found the idea of comparing these two quite exciting and was accordingly curious - after all, I love the SWY Leather.
The opening of Corium is pretty much exactly the same. It starts beautifully leathery and sweet in the first hour and wears wonderfully. You can tell that Rayhaan is offering quality here. However, as is often the case, it loses a bit of complexity after the second hour. The SWY Leather is a beast, expressing itself through strong performance and character for over eight hours. Corium clearly lacks that. I tend to apply a lot, and I did that here as well, but after about 4 hours, I noticed that it loses its leather. It remains at most subtly leathery and then has a nicely vanilla-ambered base. It's not particularly loud, it lacks a bit of punch, but at the end of the day, you don't always need that.
Corium is a beautifully crafted fragrance that comes with a great bottle and is initially shockingly similar to the original. The crux is the development and depth - that was to be expected. With a longevity of 6-8 hours, a solid sillage (only subtle after the third hour), and the lack of exclusivity, it is definitely worth a look and has a right to exist. If I don't want to always reach for the expensive SWY, I see it as a very fair and good alternative.
